Sydney dropped, Perth night race added in Supercars 2019 shake up

From a tourism point of view lets hope the AFL fixture a complementary game, offering fans of both sports an extra reason to spend a long weekend in Perth.

.... an all-new format for the visit to Perth’s Barbagallo Raceway in the first weekend of May.

The track will host a meeting from Thursday to Saturday with racing under lights for Supercars on the Saturday night.

Can I suggest Jeff Browne be appointed Ambassador for the event - well connected in both the V8 Supercar world and the AFL & capable of getting things to happen. Lets hope local egos dont ruin a great chance for a big weekend in Perth.

Top op for Freo for a home game v the Pies, Browne & Eddie are close mates, seen here seated in front of Ed sharing the GF loss:

The AFL is not going to give a s**t. You're trying to discourage fans form NSW/Qld to go? I don't think supercars is that big a deal for people to want to go to Perth for.

The AFL at the highest level will listen IF Jeff Browne & Eddie plus Freo apply some pressure (not just mid level management types), it'll get a fair hearing - you across what Tourism WA said recently dodge?

Leverage Tourism WA funding to advertise the weekend leading up to it on the East Coast on both AFL & Supercar telecasts on FTA & Fox.

With the Supercar corporate ride day on the following Monday it should meet most Tourism WAs criteria.

Unfortunately it seems the Eagles have their eye on round 2 for a GF rematch, & I cant see the Pies buying 2 x trips to Perth in 6 weeks.

Still hoping WA Tourism might do their bit to get the AFL to schedule a Sunday game in 2020.

https://www.speedcafe.com/2019/04/03/supercars-confirms-perth-supernight-race-schedule/

... the Perth venue will host a 120km (50 laps) race on Friday night followed by a 200km (83 laps) heat on Saturday night .....
Those races, to be run on the newly resurfaced Barbagallo circuit, are now scheduled to begin at 1845 local time (AWST)/2045 ...

Supercars will also contest a 30 minute practice session under lights on Thursday at 1840 (local) while Practice 2 will take place on Friday afternoon.

Night racing will continue after both Supercars heats with the Australian GT Championship set to close out the day’s action on Friday and Saturday.
Dunlop Super2, ECB SuperUtes and the Historic Touring Cars series complete the support bill.

The Pirtek Perth SuperNight ... May 2-4.

What about an nrl game?

WA would have to pay to get the NRL there, an AFL game is already there every weekend is a matter of AFL fixturing and we all know thats a FIXture.
Thu night, Friday night, Sat night @ Barbagallo & Sunday at Optus, I'd take a few days down South before I headed back to my toil in Melbourne.

Why would the AFL give a s**t? They're a giant and Supercars is a small bear. If this happened it'd be because Supercars scheduled around them and put a race on Sunday night.

You clearly have no understanding of the role of Tourism WA in both Optus Stadium & Barbagallo Raceway
  1. millions of dollars
  2. a marketing role in both venues
How do you think WA Tourism is measured, stop here if all this knowledge challenges your blinkered view of the world beyond footy, bye bye:

Can't find general revenue but this is TV rights:

Supercars $40m per year https://www.speedcafe.com/2018/08/15/supercars-investigating-changes-to-tens-tv-schedule/

AFL $418m per year http://www.footyindustry.com/?page_id=1822

AFL literally an order of magnitude bigger.
Relevance, its not a Pi55ing comp.

Tourism WA has had significant influence ($millions) for both sports, its about tourism nights in WA (see the article posted earlier). Win/win relationships work in the commercial field, the AFL already ensure the FIXture includes a game each week in WA at the new stadium - the FIX is not unique to WA, it delivers Anzac Day for the Bombers, Showdowns for SA, Queens Birthday for Melbourne, the opening game for Carlton/Richmond, the Dreamtime game .... its a FIXture, one more for a commercial partner who already pays for Denis to advertise AFL footy on Melbourne commercial radio.

Thats not to say the AFL couldnt get an earner, thats sports tourism these days, at least as much as Ballarat/the Vic Govt pay to get ga.mes in Ballarat.

As mentioned earlier I'd get Jeff Browne & Eddie together, get a deal done, ride roughshod over Gil & Co, & rely on Richard Goyder to get it through the Commission.

No doubt about the winner it would be WA Tourism.

It is relevant. You haven't explained what the AFL - the far bigger party - get out of it. 'Jeff Browne & Eddie in a room together' doesn't answer the question. Not sure what Collingwood's president has to do with it.
