The best midfield

Love the GWS midfield.

Kelly is pure silk, best kicking action in the game.
Coniglio should win a brownlow, he's got inside game, he kicks goals and he's slick on the outside.
Ward is all grunt and can carry a team to victory
Whitfield is arguably the most in-form player in the league and undoubtedly one of the fittest, best wingman going around at the moment.
Taranto and Hopper will be guns, they've shown more than enough.
De Boar showed how good a stopper he is, although Martin isn't in ripping form, he completely nullified him.
Mumford will give you a contest every week.

Bulldogs have only one hitout to half time. But they are winning the clearances.

Is Beams that big a loss to the Magpies midfield or is it more the Dogs are just very good?
Dogs are very good at getting cheap free kicks. Apart from that, they're not great at anything really.

Understandably, the Dees' midfield is being questioned.

Every single first choice midfielder spent the majority of the preseason in rehab - most following operations.

Oliver both shoulders, Viney - ankle, Harmes - shoulder, Brayshaw - back, Jones - hamstring, and Petracca, who had a knee operation.

It is what it is.

Our midfield is one dimensional

You were posting surgeries as an excuse. Oliver and Brayshaw have look unaffected by theirs and Petracca hardly plays midfield
I was posting reality.

Not one player has improved in 2019 and there are reasons why. The club knew that there would be challenges early in the year due to the reasons I mentioned.

And no, Oliver and Brayshaw haven't been two-way running (defending) like they were in the second half of last season.

All the talk this off season has been about Collingwood’s midfield, and as a Pies supporter, it is very exciting to see some of the names in the articles, but will we find out as quickly as Round 1 who has the best midfield in the competition?

Although all the talk has been about Sidebottom, Pendlebury and Beams, have people neglected the duo down the highway?

March 22nd, we’ll likely have a centre bounce with the above 3 and Selwood, Dangerfield and Ablett. Who wins that battle?

No doubt, the Pies have a very good midfield, but have the Cats midfield gone under the radar whilst the media talk about Collingwood’s?

There has been far more success, both as a team, and individually, from the midfield down at the Cattery.
Funny how this was done in preseason and yet 3 games in one is a forward pocket, one is on the wing and the other is a mid/fwd.

Our true midfield is Kelly, Constable, Dangerfield and Parfitt.

If Shuey played for pies or gaff for hawks

They’d be raving about them ...our midfield collectively in my view is number 1

Big call I know but it has the right balance of speed, height , skill, grunt ....

Ffs Dom sheed had 24 and kicked 3 goals against the best midfield....

We just don’t get the media articles
That's a load of tripe. The hype of Gaff last season during his stunning run of form and his return from suspension this year was very very noisy. Every single person from Victoria knows Gaff is a star and the media make sure his quality is known too. Shuey too is well-known in Victoria as a very good player and if he were playing in Vic, he wouldn't be rated any differently because he's not as good as West Coast supporters think he is. He's a great player, particularly in big games but in no way is he in the conversation of the top few midfielders in the league. He's much like Selwood, Cotchin and Heppell in being consistent contributors and an on-field leader with a strong presence but lacks the super powers of the top midfielders in the competition.

Everybody knows their good, and everybody knows West Coast's midfield is one of the best.

Who are the top midfielders if Selwood and Cotchin aren't in there? Mitchell? Treloar? Pfft

Who needs articles when you get all the free kicks?

This happens to all teams who go deep into September.

Shuey would absolutely be rated differently.

Bulldogs have the best midfield (minus a ruckman) imo, they dont have much else though

Probably lack the goalkicking power of some other midfields. Bont is kind of the only goalkicker of the group and he's had a shocking start to the year in that regard. Hunter and Macrae rack it up but have limitations with their kicking. If we had a damaging speedy type it would be a good mix.
