Review Dogs Run Out Of Legs And Lose To Collingwood - Rd 4 2019

His work around the ground is improving. Bevo simply doesn't rate pure tap ruckman and sees the remainder of a ruckman's game as being more important.

In our first three weeks we were smashed in hitouts but still won clearances so I can see the merit in the theory. 2-3 times per year though we will come up against a Gawn/Grundy who will make it much more difficult. I suspect in 2-3 years we'll be glad we pumped games into English.

No need to sell me on English. Agree with playing him. But with more support. Trengove should be able to help out. Offers more than Schache. But mainly I don't want to break English (like we did last yr).

Just completely disagree with the theory that we instructed English to deliberately lose the hitouts. one of the more bizarre theories I've ever seen here.

I find it annoying how Duryea tries to rake or toe-tap the contested ball out with his foot instead of getting his head over it.

I don't know his game very well but that sort of thing gives me the impression that he doesn't like the physical stuff. Hope that's not the case.

Yeah it's a weird theory.

After Schache's effort last weekend Trengove deserves a spot ahead of him. Will at least compete in the air, will allow English at least a 50/50 ruck forward split (playing forward will also help his development) and Trengove is more aggressive than Schache. It's the first change I'd make.

Second change - swap Wallis and Dunkley's roles in the team. Wallis forward / Dunkley mid worked last year so not sure why we've changed.

Yeah, I've noticed a bit of that too, not just on Fri night. Small sample size admittedly, but there's been a few times across all games where he seemed to avoid putting his head over the ball. Did any Hawks posters allude to that when he was first traded?

First change I'd make too...two rucks possibly the last change Bev would make.

Agree on Dunks. If we pick him he has to play mostly inside. Offers SFA elsewhere. Wallis isnt bad fwd. Would almost make Wallis a permanent fwd releasing Dunks and/or McLean mid. But also starting to think only one of Wallis/Dunks should play.

Wallis was arguably our best forward in the last two months of last year. He's slow on the spread so I've been surprised he's in the centre so much (along with his weekly howler of a turnover that costs us a goal).

We did trial two rucks JLT 1 so I'm not sure Bevo is totally opposed to the idea, especially if it's 'tall for tall' in the forward half so not robbing us of run upfield.

The weirdest part about the change is that Dunkley went to the US with Bont during the off-season for specialised fitness training. Then he spent most of the pre-season pairing up with Bont in the midfield. All signs pointed to full-time midfield work, then we just have Dunks rotting in the forward line.

Not to mention that Wallis is rated by Champion Data as one of the best mid-forwards in the league, and he played his best footy up forward last year, but we end up with him spending most of his time in the midfield. Just makes little sense to me.

The JLT was pretty much one ruck for each half I think. JT played well in the ruck in the last two months of last yr and this is not mentioned much.

But watching Bevs presser when asked about JT he pretty much refused to discuss him and seemed a little dismissive of him.

JLT2 it was one ruck each half, JLT 1 Schache (and Dickson) were omitted and we played two rucks.

During pre-season we played English forward in the match sim quite a bit. That (and Naughton back) were abandoned pretty quickly for JLT 2. JLT 1 was very disappointing for the club.

I’m a Tim English fan boy and want to get as many games as we can into him (without killing the kid), rucking is an experience game as much as it is a strength battle. In the process I expect there will be times where he’s physically going to get beaten however I would have thought that we could minimise the damage with some shrewd coaching and this is where I’m hoping we aren’t letting the big fella down. Too many times on Friday night he fronted up the same way, contest after contest only to have Grundy handle him with ease. There’s no doubting that this was a major factor in the end with those hit outs to advantage costing us more and more as the game wore on. Does anyone know if we have a specialist ruck coach and if so is he available match day? The irony of Friday night is Tim played close to his best game, his hands below his knees are Bont like (yeah I said it) and his work in close with ball in his hand was as good as you’ll see from a ruckman yet this was over shadowed by his ruck work and inability to at least limit the damage.

Oh good stop the excuses

Everyone’s life is hard I’d much rather be playing footy than having to work day in day out. Living in Qld and playing footy must have been torture

He is soft and has little intensity, he is the one that needs to have a look at himself
Seeing as someone mentioned big Wil ... Early on he copped plenty of criticism. Some called him a spud.

Same goes for triple Premiership player Brian Lake. He was often criticised. Went on to become one of the best fullbacks of all time.

Same with Lin Jong. I remember a lot of posters on here were critical of his skills and decision making. Well he has now played in two VFL flags and had the last laugh. If English can go half as well as Jongy then I'll be fine with that

Neither of those players were scared to attack the footy or contest at any stage so the comparison is irrelevant

Scachae is closer to Josh Hill. Timid and not prepared to put his body on the line.
