Ben Brown Staging

It’s interesting this diving crap habit that some players get themselves into.

You wonder if a bloke like Brown thinks about the future and how he will be remembered as a league footballer.

M.Lloyd admitted not long ago about his diving habit he developed for a couple of seasons late in his career. He put it down to stage where he lost confidence and doubted himself as a player.
At least he had the courage to say he is extremely embarrassed to think about it now long after his playing days are over.

Brown’s peahearted North teammates are the ones that should have the goddamn guts to call him out on it and tell him to cut it out.

But maybe it’s too late.

Maybe this is what Ben’s legacy is.

A pathetic diving acrobat looking for frees like some pathetic soccer player.

Pretty sad.

He’s far too reliant on staging as a means to kick goals. He stops, the goals stops.

I’ll certainly remember him for his diving and flailing, even before his latest side on somersault from the pike position.

Seems like a likeable bloke, but the way he goes about his footy...he is my least favourite AFL player. If he feels the slightest bit of contact or can't take an uncontested grab he plays for frees 100% of the time. His effort last night was genuinely pathetic.

Campaigns against domestic violence - as a person I have a lot of respect for Ben but as a football player not so much

Ben's ability to mark the ball at its highest point obviously instills panic in most defenders--a few guys out there have the skillset and know-how to beat him within the rules, but there's certainly not 17 of them. His opponents often resort to unfair tactics (blocking, holding, pushing etc) and it's good for the game when those infringements are correctly penalised by umpires.

As for ruck contests, the rules are pretty clear:

I'm fairly sure those laws haven't been changed since 2013, but will stand corrected.

And at least Lloyd was a multi-time Coleman Medalist and All-Australian. Even though he played for free kicks, he was still an overall great of the game and gave a lot back.

Brown won't ever be considered a great of the game. Staging for free kicks will be his legacy.

People are finally realising that this bloke is an absolute spud.
Teams have worked out how to play against him now so this is his last resort, it's pathetic and embarassing.

Reckon if he cut his hair he’d get 50% less frees..

It’s like blokes who throw the head back in a tackle with long hair seem to get more frees. The obvious and exaggerated movement of the hair makes it look like a more intense motion.

Take away the hair and that just leaves arms flailing.. much less convincing

That should be a week for staging.
Players will accentuate where they can to ensure the ump sees an infringement, and when the infringement is there, i dont mind it. Sometimes things can be missed an ump can't see it. So if its there, and you accentuate, i think thats fine.

This wasn't there. to somersault as he went down is a poor look. Will keep doing it until he's called to account on it.

Would genuinely struggle to kick over a goal a game if it wasn’t for his play acting

Can run in straight lines and flop around and thats it

The umpires should call play on during his 40 metre “run” up as well after he takes his full 30, takes him over a minute for a set shot so he’s nice and rested

I wonder how players who served 12 month suspensions for performance enhancing drug use will be remembered.

That comment said teams have figured out how to play him, you show highlights from nearly five years ago.

Figured out how to play him in the meantime?

It's easier to defend a guy who hasn't had a good preseason, it's easier to defend a guy who doesn't have silver service from the middle, it's easier to defend a guy who is poor when the ball hits the floor, it's easier to defend a guy who has trouble reading the ball in flight.

Since then he's come second in the Coleman twice - would have won last year apart from the fact that we played Gold Coast up there in a hurricane and Richmond played them in perfect conditions Riewoldt got 10.

He started his career brilliantly, and has gone from strength to strength.

That's a disgrace.

Cancerous behaviour, honestly

Are we talking about the possible outcome of injecting experimental substances into players during a team-wide doping program?

Such as the one instigated by James Hird that resulted in 34 Essendon players being suspended for 12 months?

We aren't. We are talking about a player lacking athleticism generally and in fitness from a interrupted preseason resorting to playing for free kicks to impact the result of matches.
