The obscure XI's you've always wanted to make but never found the appropriate place thread

Bowling averages pretty similar really, Waugh could bowl.
I mean, Symonds averaged 37 to Waugh's 42. I don't deny that Waugh was a better player, but he rarely bowled enough to be justifiably called an all rounder. And I know he had his back issues but Michael Clarke averaged 3.5 overs a test.

The Australian All Rounder XI:

1. Shane Watson
2. Bob Cowper
3. Jack Ryder
4. Allan Border
5. Steven Waugh
6. Keith Miller
7. Matthew Wade (Need a keeper haha, thought he'd be the most appropriate)
8. Richie Benaud
9. Alan Davidson
10. Ray Lindwall
11. Brad Hogg

Border is very iffy but he bowled those nice little left arm tweakers. I wanted to get the 4 different varieties of spin in there, hence the Hogg selection. A worldwide one would be interesting.

I'll have a go. If I'm going to make an all rounders team I think is the best ever, I would include some Australians:

WG Grace
Wilfred Rhodes
Jacques Kallis
Frank Woolley
Warwick Armstrong
Garfield Sobers
Keith Miller
Jack Gregory
Ian Botham
Mike Procter
Imran Khan

Who would keep? The weakest bowler of the lot haha?

Maybe Frank Woolley. He took over 1000 catches so he should be at home behind the wickets.
Yeah, not a bad choice. An English one is another I'd like to see. My default is to include a keeper so maybe something like:

WG Grace
Wilfred Rhodes
Wally Hammond
Denis Compton
Stanley Jackson
Frank Woolley
Les Ames (+)
Tony Greig
Ian Botham
Andrew Flintoff
Graeme Swann

Have to Have Alfred Lyttleton as the Keeper. Played in the 1880s for England, (the first 4 tests ever played in England), and when the Australians racked up 550, with Billy Murdoch making the first test 200, Lyttleton took off his pads, rolled his arm over and took 4/19. He was a good enough bat to open the innings a couple of times, was the first man to play both cricket and football for England, and became an leading MP (Foreign Secretary).

He died whilst an MP after being hit in the stomach playing social cricket - an abcess formed and he bled to death when it burst.

That's an all-rounder.

Haha fair enough.

An XI of highest score at each batting position:

1. Len Hutton
2. Matthew Hayden
3. Brian Lara
4. Mahela Jayawardena (c)
5. Michael Clarke
6. Ben Stokes
7. Don Bradman
8. Wasim Akram
9. Ian Smith (+)
10. Walter Read
11. Ashton Agar

By sheer coincidence it's not a bad attack either. Read and Akram opening, Stokes first change, Agar as the spinner and Clarke can always bowl a few. Sorted by most runs in batting position:

1. Sunil Gavaskar
2. Matthew Hayden
3. Kumar Sangakkara
4. Sachin Tendulkar
5. Shivnarine Chanderpaul
6. Steven Waugh (c)
7. Adam Gilchrist (+)
8. Daniel Vettori
9. Stuart Broad
10. Dale Steyn
11. Muttiah Muralitharan

And by batting average (min 20 games played):

1. Jack Hobbs (c)
2. Herbert Sutcliffe
3. Don Bradman
4. Steve Smith
5. AB de Villiers
6. Shivnarine Chanderpaul
7. Quentin de Kock (+)
8. Daniel Vettori
9. Shaun Pollock
10. Graeme Swann
11. Derek Underwood

Yeah, I think the last team would be best suited to the sub continent somehow...
