Where and when: Marvel Stadium, Saturday April 20, 7.25pm AEST

Melbourne Forecast
1.PNG
Patchy fog in the outer suburbs and Yarra Valley in the early morning, followed by a sunny day. Local areas of smoke haze during the morning. Light winds becoming north to northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h later in the morning then becoming light in the afternoon.

Last time they met: Marvel Stadium, round 15, 2018: Richmond 14.9 (93) defeated Sydney 11.1 (67)
Richmond held Sydney at bay for most of the match until a flurry of Swans goals cut the margin to just four points at the first minute of the last term. It was the last time Sydney would score.

What it means for Richmond: After an undermanned team caused an upset win on the road over Port Adelaide, another four points would boost confidence in the young cubs even further at Punt Road.

What it means for Sydney: At one and three, the ledger could get ugly for the Swans if they don't start getting wins on the board, especially ahead of a battle with crosstown rivals Greater Western Sydney.

How Richmond wins: The Tigers were back to their hassling best last week, and have the speed across the ground to beat the Swans, particularly in the midfield and across half-forward.

How Sydney wins: The blueprint has been set for how to defeat Richmond. Retain possession across half-back using kicks, denying the small forwards the opportunity to pounce on a loose ball.

The stat: Richmond is averaging 339.3 disposals a match after four weeks, the fewest of any club. While in recent years, the Tigers haven't been the biggest ball-winners, (averaging 366.8 in 2018 and 364.7 in 2017), the downward turn is an issue.

The match-up: Lance Franklin v Dylan Grimes
Franklin (12th overall in the Official AFL Player Ratings) v Alex Rance has been an enthralling battle over the years, but with Rance injured and David Astbury not quick enough, the shorter but agile Grimes (196th overall) will have to stand up.

It's a big week for: Aliir Aliir
After taking on one of the biggest men in the game in Braydon Preuss, Aliir will be faced with another big task, lining up on the in-form Tom Lynch. After a pre-season on the sidelines, Lynch is just starting to hit his straps in his new colours, coming off a six-goal haul.

Big call: It's been a relatively quiet few weeks for the lookalike pair, but Richmond's Jack Higgins and Sydney's Ben Ronke will kick three goals each under the roof.

Prediction: Tigers by 22 points

Danger game for us, hopefully the kids have been kept grounded during the week and dont come out thinking it'll just happen. Win this and we start setting up our season nicely.

If Richmond lose this they are completely cooked. No excuses. Swans are a bottom 4 team.

Looking forward to seeing if Florent can follow up on last week’s game, and whether Lambert is the real deal.

Swans by plenty. The Tigers though resilient were error-ridden last week and it was only Ports poor form that allowed the win. Swans copping plenty of media niggle will come out firing. The speculation during the week about the possibility of Buddy leaving after a failed stint will only be further motivation for their 5+ goal win.

The only question is what Hardwick will moan about in his weekly post match whine.

.

Not really. Riewoldt, Cotchin, Grigg and Short are still out. Also of course Rance and Lynch if you believe the above. If there's a time to beat Richmond it's now.

I still expect to win but could go either way.

If we bring the same intensity as last week we should win fairly comfortably. If we are up by heaps I wouldn’t be surprised if we packed it up late given the 4 day break. But I hope that’s not on the players minds at all, 5% off and the swans will punish us, as evidenced beautifully last night. Sydney haven’t looked very good for a while now but they’ve still got players capable of turning it on.

From memory Tigers have had the wood over us for the most part for some years now, even before they came good in 2017.

We’re playing dull, old-fashioned footy, our star forward isn’t a shadow of his brilliant best, our only serious ruck option tries his guts out every week and is much respected for it but is constantly bettered, the rest of our midfield is hardly setting the world on fire, and putting enormous pressure on our defence, and frankly I really can’t see Richmond losing this.
