Review Round 5 - Adelaide Crows 'The Kieron Turner Cup'

This was the 1st game this year when our midfield was well beaten.
Won't be the last.
We have had big midfield improvements this year from Touk, Fiorini, and Bowes, plus some good mid minutes from Martin. Swallow and Miles as expected, and Witts has been good.

But if we drop off a little bit there then we will be ripe for the plucking. And we dropped off in the midfield today. Hold our own in there, get the ball forward with purpose or pace or skill, and we will be in the game. Really hurt today not to have Weller and Powell who have helped move the ball forward quickly.

Note to self: remember that we will be outplayed in the middle a few more times this year since every midfield group we play against will look better on paper.

Note to self: also remember that we have held our own against midfield groups led by Fyfe, Bont and Cripps. All of those are top 10 players in the comp so it can be done.

Still really happy with the season to date. Still well above expectations. Keeping an eye on the % which took a hammering this week. No more blowouts please.

Didn't think the midfield was the biggest issue to be honest. We won the centre clearances, lost around the ground but equal overall. -18 contested possessions but I feel the majority of that was those hacks forward to a contest. Our biggest problem yesterday for me was composure going forward. That first kick out of defence and the first one inside 50 was terrible. We need a true CHF to make that link.
I haven't watched any NEAFL this year but in the past that's where I think we've seen Day at his best. 60-80 out hitting the leading player. Not sure why he can hit that guy so regularly and be so inaccurate in front of the big ones.

The criticism of Brodie is unbelievable. He got his hands on the footy 23 times, sure had some bad turnovers but composure will come with experience, it’s his 12th game! He’s going to be a very good player for the suns and we should be behind him and supporting him, not criticising him. The worst thing would be for him to be sent back to the seconds after tonight. Give him games, he’s worked hard to get into the team and deserves at least a few to find his feet.

Brodie has something which many of our pretty boys don't have - grunt and balls. He's the type of player we need to keep. In and under type, he will make a few mistakes early in his career. Ballard's the other one who has some class about him and with games will become a great player. Touk, for all his enthusiasm and team spirit, just does too many clangers and turnovers. We're back to reality - we beat teams that will finish bottom 8 and if we're not careful, we'll be down there with them. Need to pick a couple of very good senior players in the mid season draft to help the young ones as they tire in the latter half of the season......and will somebody in the ruck coaching, please help Witts learn to palm the ball and not let it drop limply to the ground at his feet. If he can't do that, then let's go with the big belt into the forward lines while the 6/6/6 is in effect. Brisbane is a big game for confidence and future growth - they better go in with all guns blazing.

Please no more Sam Fletcher type pretty boy in mid season draft , need some ugly boys .

This Brisbane game is going to be Spicey!
Both teams are going to be hurting and ready to run through a brick wall! This is going to be a fair measure of where we are at in our rebuild.. We need to attack the man as well as the ball and let these pretenders from up the road know that we are going to be the next great Queensland team! Can't wait to be at MetriCauldron this weekend..
We need to be breathing fire!

We’re just as good a chance of being the next great team from Queensland as they are. Had to cringe at the pre-game television coverage opener for the Lions v Collingwood team comparing their current team to the great Lions sides of the early 2000s. The team they have now is not fit to clean their boots and we’ve got a great chance to send them packing.

Thought Dave Swallow has been cleaner by foot than usual to start the year.
6 goals straight + 4 GA in the first 5 rounds is very good.

His DE is 75% - usually sits 60-65% so definite improvement from him.
Just looks more assured with ball in hand to me.
Hoping it continues.

Just need touk to clean up his kicking and he will be a star

Did as well as Miles would have done...20+ touches....I'm with you!!

Plenty more upside than Miles also at just 20 years of age and just 12 games. People forget he hasn’t played any AFL this year (not even JLT). Completely different speed and intensity to NEAFL so 23 touches at 70% with 5 clearances is a pretty bloody good showing first up. Give the kid a chance.

Hanley and Joyce shining lights so far today for mine...

Been particularly disappointed with Ainsworth as well.

Was Hanley playing a different role today than previous weeks?
Seemed to be big spike in his possessions and impact on the game.

Nah same role.
Probably just building into the year.
Playing in front of his parents who’d flown out from Ireland for his 150th.

Looked more sprightly though
