0. 1,478 GOALS - Gary Ablett Snr. (1,030 Goals), Gary Ablett Jnr. (402 Goals), Nathan Ablett (46 Goals) - STILL ACTIVE.

1. 1,432 GOALS - Gary Ablett Snr. (1,030 Goals) & Gary Ablett Jnr. (402 Goals) - STILL ACTIVE
2. 1,361 GOALS - Gordon Coventry (1,299 Goals) & Syd Coventry (62 Goals).
3. 1,360 GOALS - Tony Lockett (1,360 Goals) & Non-Existent VFL/AFL Brother, Father, Son or Cousin. Only daughters right?
4. 1,325 GOALS - Nick Riewoldt (718 Goals) & Jack Riewoldt (607 Goals) - STILL ACTIVE
5. 1,254 GOALS - Jason Dunstall (1,254 Goals) & Non-Existent VFL/AFL Brother, Father, Son or Cousin. Right?
6. 1,206 GOALS - Peter Hudson (727 Goals) & Paul Hudson (479 Goals).
7. 1,163 GOALS - Saverio Rocca (748 Goals) & Anthony Rocca (415 Goals).
8. 1,084 GOALS - Leigh Matthews (915 Goals) & Kelvin Matthews (169 Goals).
9. 1,057 GOALS - Doug Wade (1,057 Goals) & Non-Existent VFL/AFL Brother, Father, Son or Cousin.

The Riewoldts only 107 Goals behind the Ablett Father-Son now, 153 Goals behind the Ablett Family and 175 short of being the first Family duo to hit 1,500 Goals between them.

Can Gary Ablett Jnr. catch the the other 'Son' with 400 Goals Paul Hudson on 479 Goals? Will require at least two more years playing as a permanent forward one would think - which would also take the Abletts just over 1,500 Goals all-up...

Tough, but not impossible, but in all likelihood unlikely as many would agree 2019 is likely to be Ablett's last season......

Nathan Ablett's 46 Goals takes the Ablett trio to 1,478 Goals closer to the 1,500 Goal mark......

70 Goals from Jack Riewoldt in 2018. A repeat performance in 2019 will bring the Riewoldts to the brink of 1,400 Goals. Certainly Jack should power the Riewoldts past Tony Lockett and the Coventry Brothers in 2019..... 37 Goals required to put the Riewoldts into second-place overall.

Given that Jack went goalless last week and won't be playing in the GF, he missed an opportunity to get the deficit below 100.

The Riewoldts should be 2nd sometime near the mid-season bye next year.

Tony Lockett's nephew Jye might enter the AFL in a few years time.

Well, Jye Lockett could sweep the new record away in a few years then. Better get to it Gaz & Jack!

Without looking into it - given Gary Jnr. has more Brownlow votes than anyone surely the Ablett Father-Son would be top of the Brownlow votes? Could be a couple of Abletts v Riewoldts going around for these sort of stats.

Fair question. That's a singular Ablett "Family" - Father & Sons. There's no chance the Riewoldts can catch the wider Ablett clan. Can they catch Gary, Gary & Nathan? We'll see.

Nick & Jack are cousins....If you include them, then the 2 ABLETT uncles become compulsory inclusions.

The thread is about "Related DUOs". I just included Nathan because he's part of the direct family of Gary & Gary and adds another few goals. There is no point including the whole Ablett clan (& Tucks?) - clearly they will not be caught anytime soon and certainly not by the Riewoldts!

The germane point being that all the rest of the pairs you have mentioned there are either brothers or father/Sons....If you're going to include cousins in the 'Riewoldt's' then the obvious logical extension is the entire Ablett clan, otherwise your criteria becomes a complete arbitrary whim on your behalf.

You're correct - that's exactly what it is!

Can I make an uncontroversial statement? There is simply no way the extended Ablett clan will ever be overtaken anytime soon - barring some strategic marriages - so it's not actually an open competition at the moment as this is. The question I have posed, and that I'm updating is a "live" issue - it's up for grabs.

I'd say the Riewoldts are the favourites, but Gary's year as a forward so far suggests the Ablett duo might actually be hard to run down by Jack if Gary plays for another 2 years...

It's a live issue.

The point you are raising. It's over. It's settled. The Abletts "Won".

9. 1,057 GOALS - Doug Wade (1,057 Goals) & Non-Existent VFL/AFL Brother, Father, Son or Cousin.

The Riewoldts are 121 Goals behind the Ablett Father-Son now, 167 Goals behind the immediate family of the currently playing Gary Ablett and 172 short of being the first Family duo to hit 1,500 Goals between them which looks a very good chance to go to the Abletts.

Can Gary Ablett Jnr. catch the the other 'Son' with 400 Goals Paul Hudson on 479 Goals? Will require at least two more years playing as a permanent forward one would think - which would also take the Abletts just over 1,500 Goals all-up...

Tough, but not impossible, but in all likelihood unlikely as many would agree 2020 is likely to be Ablett's last season......

Nathan Ablett's 46 Goals takes the Ablett trio to 1,495 Goals closer to the 1,500 Goal mark......

70 Goals from Jack Riewoldt in 2018. A repeat performance in 2019 will bring the Riewoldts to the brink of 1,400 Goals. Certainly Jack should power the Riewoldts past Tony Lockett and the Coventry Brothers in 2019..... 34 Goals required to put the Riewoldts into second-place overall.

Jack's basically missed the whole year, so this one might be a write off.

Putting him on 50 goals a year, maybe for 2 more years that puts Riewoldts at 1428, and then while Gary is still playing, unlikely to catch them.
Might have been interesting if Jack wasn't injured this year.

You might have a point there! Riewoldts shot by Jack's injury! I'll assume he plays for 2 more years after Ablett...

70 Goals from Jack Riewoldt in 2018 which obviously won't be repeated in 2019 given Jack's injury troubles. It will be touch and go whether Jack can power the Riewoldts past Tony Lockett and the Coventry Brothers in 2019..... 34 Goals required to put the Riewoldts into second-place overall - although will definitely be achieved in 2020 barring injury... but the Ablett's are slipping away at the top of the tree - nearly 100 goals in front of the Coventry Brothers now!
