Talk re the MCG is irrelevant . We hardly ever play there . I think we'd go ok there if it were against the Suns or the Swans.

If we happen to make finals ,which at this stage is conjectural , and we're good enough we'll play well at the MCG in a final.

The first thing to worry about is getting there and to do that we need to keep winning the winable games starting with this week.

We've improved all over the ground this year, but I agree that our defence has the most improvement left in it. We're still letting easy goals through at times, and teams can still get a run on against us. If our forward line fails, our defence struggles to compensate.

What a shame we overlooked Aliir in our own backyard.

Who would you drop for Aliir?

I think we are a real chance of winning the flag this year. Each of the last three flag winners were not fancied at the start of the season. The competition is that even that the team which gets on a roll in September wins the flag.

The fact we’re still getting scored against is still down more to turnovers than the actual back six. We really need to be converting more when we go inside 50 - when we don’t we’re more at risk of conceding fast break goals which most defences are struggling with. Short version : the whole side still needs to improve offensively and defensively.

Walker and dizzy easily.

Aliir was just about best on ground for much of the game on Saturday.

Aliir took a long time to develop, was almost delisted at one point. In the amount of time it took him to get there, we got a few others. Wouldn’t look back at getting Aliir and there’s always a chance at us potentially getting him in the future if the club rates him.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not blaming list management and I like dizzy and walker a lot. Just answering the question directly!

Gardiner is different because he plays small but Aliir would be a slight upgrade on Walker but as it turns out missing out on Aliir isn't going to make much of a difference.

To be fair our midfield deserves a bit of credit for delivering it lace out to him again and again.

For a guy who’s played 35 odd games and probably only had 1 or 2 standout games I wouldn’t take him in front of either Walker and especially Gardiner.

Gardiner is criminally underrated as a defender.

Whats been said?

That we should be making the finals after a 5-2 start AND that we are "the sleeper team in the top 4" - so missing the finals would be "deflating".

LID IS OFF AT 360 - WHERE'S 3KZ - HE NEEDS TO GET ROBBO AND GERARD ON THE PHONE AND DEMAND RECOGNITION :p

Men in the middle: Lachie Neale (165), Stefan Martin (127), Jarryd Lyons (126), Dayne Zorko (101), Oscar McInerney (79), Rhys Mathieson (55), Jarrod Berry (55), Mitch Robinson (39), Hugh McCluggage (38), Cam Rayner (14), Charlie Cameron 12), Lincoln McCarthy (12), Ryan Bastinac (1).

Go-to guys: No surprise the Lions used their most experienced quartet most often. Neale, Lyons and Zorko offer a good combination of ball-winning and spread alongside Martin, while the younger trio of Mathieson, Berry and McCluggage still learn the craft.

Most successful starting four: McInerney, Robinson, Neale, Berry Clearance record: 4 wins, 0 losses

Ruck and roll: The most prolific centre square combination - Stefan Martin and Lachie Neale have connected eight times with a hitout to advantage.

Average centre clearance differential: -1.9. Ranked: 16th

Average points from centre bounces differential: +6.4. Ranked: 1st

Analysis: The off-season additions of Lachie Neale and Jarryd Lyons, along with the departure of Dayne Beams, was some pretty major upheaval to the Lions' centre square mix. While they're ranked low for centre clearance differential, what they do with those clearances is quite eye-opening. Wins over North Melbourne and Port Adelaide came directly from centre bounce dominance in the final quarter. It's fair to assume this chemistry will only improve as the season progresses. - Michael Whiting

I think they needed a minimum attendances because that combination doesn't scream repeated dominance - it might just be luck.

Yeah it's not the best article. Although Robbo, Neale and Berry would probably be our best clearance winners.
