MRP / Trib. Ablett found NOT GUILTY of intentional strike

Christian said he deemed the Hipwood one ‘careless’ and that Shiel has disposed of the ball whereas the player Hipwood got, hadn’t.
To me, Hipwood’s looked to be greater force and more intent. Maybe Christian is so mired in the complexities and technicalities that he can’t see the forest for the trees?
I don't know why their can't be more common sense in all levels of umpiring and tribunal. Really doesn't have to be so hard. In fairness not always their fault as Gill and his predecessors have been so hung up on what 'looks bad' rather than taking a breath and worrying about what simply is bad.

Yep they might be caught between a rock and a hard place sometimes because of previous rulings. This one was pretty simple though when looked at objectively, so Christian is making mistakes. Who knows why?

Bombers' fans had to tolerate so much vitriol during the Drugs saga, I imagine they've learned how difficult it is to be judged harshly + their suspension would have been a bitter pill.

Good on them for being reasonable + rational.

But Hawks + Tigers' fans  🤯🤯🤯
Hawks fans have always been obsessed with Geelong. The Richmond obsession is surprising though. Must be about all those years of flogging them. I remember the final they won in 2017 against us- their fans were so intense and their desire to beat us was bonkers and it’s just rolled on since then.
Time to get the natural order back in place.

Gary got the Geelong penalty.

I honestly think a lot of what goes on at AFL level is done for the publicity. Suspending Ablett for a fairly innocuous incident was a sure-fire way to generate lots of media coverage - which was always bound to intensify as the "drama" of the tribunal appearance played out. I don't necessarily think its about truth and justice at all, just what serves the AFLs unquenchable thirst for media minutes. So glad he got off and his name has been cleared - what an injustice it would have been.

The Cats website took note of my objection to their sub heading re Ablett escaping suspension for his "hit".
Amazingly, they took it down.
Pedantic maybe, but let's have technically correct and less inflammatory reporting please.

Well done Sam + it’s terrific you took the time to object.
It’s understandable that some are outraged that the charge was reduced to careless. It’s astounding the number of tin hat conspiracies, but some are hilarious.
I’m struggling with the religious discrimination against GAJ + the homophobic slurs. I’m sick of Folau being called hateful. He posted an image of what HE believes is sinful + included himself as a sinner. Not once did he say he hated anyone.
While, I disagree with labelling of sinners in the post, he has every right to believe that sinners, who turn to God, are forgiven.
GAJ liked the IG comment, probably not wise, + explained he was in support of how difficult it is to be a Christian in the public eye.
While I disagree with judging people, as in the Folau post (I’m a let he who is without sin cast the first stone), I object to virtue signallers’ outrage, while neglecting the other categories in the post. They are just as guilty by judging GAJ.
You’re right saying: “. . .let's have technically correct and less inflammatory reporting”.

Agreed. Unbelievable vitriol from the Tuggs board ranging from our finals chances to our bowling lane ground, triggered by the Ablett situation. They really need their own resident Psychologist on that forum. It could be explained that subconscious envy (which has elements of admiration) left unchecked morphs to aggressive jealousy. Instead of "we want a player/ground/ethos/results like yours" it's "we want your player" (because we're shit).

Exactly. I’d go even further to say, it’s a disbelief that other teams could have better players + why aren’t those players at Richmond? What surprised me was the rational + understanding from Essendon supporters, which was admirable, considering it was their player.
The Tuggers’ comments that Gaz is a dirty player - then why in 328 games was he not reported or suspended more often?
When Richmond won the flag in 2017, I thought it was wonderful. Their fans subsequent behaviour soured that feeling.
The comments that Gaz will be booed for the rest of his career 🙄 Fantastic! The more he’s booed the better he plays.

I guess if you don't ask you don't get but pretty laughable. Yes we will reduce the fine to $1,500 for you Gary.......spend that $500 wisely.

I thought it was a bit harsh the other week when Sav copped a $2k fine for nothing. That would still be decent money for him. But Gary, please.
Didn’t see the Daniher (???) knee to Sav’s head, resulting in concussion, yet no hooha about it. Fortunately, Gaz grazed Shiel, who was able to continue playing. Haven’t heard a peep from Geelong supporters, shouldn’t we be ranting + raving that Sav could have been decapitated?

Has all of this sprung out of the 2017 "should Richmond be forced to play in Geelong?" debacle?

This level of foaming-at-the-mouth anti-Geelong antipathy isn't something I historically associated with Tigers supporters, but in recent years it seems to have reached a fever pitch of unhinged derangement.

It seems it is the result of Geelong's Home Final against Richmond + there was almost a riot because Richmond fans could not get enough tickets to the game.

My first game at the MCG, was Geelong -v- Richmond when GAS kicked a bag of goals. The 'G' was packed + it was hard to find a seat, but found one with only Tigers' fans. Every time GAS kicked a goal, it was like a GF + all this stuff rained down upon me. I thought it was so exciting! UNTIL. . .I realised they were throwing rubbish + food at me 😹😹😹

You'd think that belting us by 51 points in QF2 + going on to win the Premiership would have assuaged their hostility.

But the hysteria levelled at GAJ because his charge was down graded to 'careless' with a fine, has hit new heights of totally irrational "unhinged derangement". Hawks' fans ire is understandable because of our history.

Or could it also be that Tigers' fans are still salty from the 16 years they lost to Geelong?

CORRECTION: It was not a Home Final at KP. It was Rd21 - 12 August 2017 at KP.

Success brings its own form of entitlement, and less fear of (scoreline) embarrassment to bag out others. Then there's the difference between football fanatics (one eyed) and football fans who can appreciate the overall game. I fondly remember resigned Melbs/Bullies/Port supporters, having a laugh and pisstake against themselves when we played (thrashed) them.

I find that Melbourne supporters are generally the most amusing in the AFL among any fanbase. Years of mediocrity has given them ample opportunity to refine their gallows humour.

It's amazing to me that we had to put up with our players being booed on to the field by an overwhelmingly partisan pro-Richmond crowd at OUR home final and yet somehow the recipients of this undeserved advantage are the ones who emerged with a deranged, bitter hostility towards their opponent.

I'd love to do a study on that. One variable might be returning to the leather seat comfort of the Land rover.
