“state of the game” my arse “state of Geelong’s premiership hopes” more like it.
Hocking the rulemaker with Wheatley, the political mouth piece doing a Clive Palmer last year crying about “state of the game.”

The umpires had their own “state of the game “ meeting after Richmond’s flag and we consequently got reamed to the deficit of -230 odd freekicks.
Given how often you meantion his name you'd think you'd be spelling it correctly by now.

AFL had Evidence that 3rd man up wasn't clearing congestion

Also umpires use to take forever to bounce the ball, they throw ball up a lot quicker today than what they use to.

Not true. They would blow the whistle quickly and either pay a free or bounce it.

Plus the bounce could go anywhere so the players spread out.

Watch some old games.

Also, the AFL are full of s**t with their stats. They told us 6 6 6 and playing on from behinds was proven to increase scoring.

So in your opinion are Richmond a minnow club? Because I would have thought if they were successful and had a large fanbase the greedy, evil AFL would be WANT Richmond up and about as opposed to devising conspiracies to harm Richmond and prop up a team that draws less fans through the gates in Geelong.

What do the AFL gain by a weakened Richmond?

20 something points each in games at half time.
In good conditions!

Last year they were yelling that the 'State of the game' was ALMOST a national emergency. They were calling for summits.

Well now that it is worse, why are they all silent? Explain the reason for the Hockings and Whateleys of this world saying NOTHING this year, if you are a believer in the rule changes.

As often proven in the past we are big whether winning or losing unlike most other clubs, so its in the interest of the AFL to let lesser clubs such as Geelong whose support drops rapidly when down the ladder, remain near the top, while they know Richmond still brings in the numbers no matter what their position.

The rules Committee needs to be a separate entity from the league and should not be influenced by the AFL. The VFL had to cede control of the league for its own sake. So should the AFL and the laws of the game.

When did the VFL cede control of the league exactly? The rules committee makes the rules for the AFL, and its up to the bodies whether they follow those same rules. If another rules committee existed that made rules for the game in general, what makes you think the AFL wouldnt ignore it and have its own rules anyway - or do you know nothing of the relationship between the ANFC and VFL in its latter years?

Some fair mental gymnastics required to support the notion that the AFL is biased against large supporter bases. Care to throw a sprinkling of facts in there?

Guess that's why Melbourne, North and the Saints have dominated the past decade.

And since you apparently think the AFL is at least partially rigged, why do you watch? In a rigged comp surely any achievement, even by your own club, must be met with suspicion rather than celebration?

The footy this year has been fantastic viewing. Sucked in to the AFL for not getting the intended rule change impact on scoring (karma), but viewers have been digging the product. If anyone bleats about state of the game this season they should get a life ban. The game is idyllic at the moment.

Well if goals are that far down and ome of AFLs key goals is to increase scoring, than you can guarantee more rule changes next year. Hopefully drop the interchange and scrap the nominating ruck

Close games will do that as people don't switch off early plus enticing matchups that get people to turn on the tv in the first place helps.

Oh please open your eyes.

We play in one of the only competitions in the World where the ruling body decides the draw not on fairness but on what makes the most profit, I love the game is it equal and fair, no, still the players and teams are out there doing their best but the AFL is a corrupt brotherhood.

Ever watched the wrestling?

Reasonable point re: the draw. In all seriousness, though, do you genuinely believe there is an AFL conspiracy against Richmond? And, if so, in what ways does this manifest and why would they do so?

It’s been pretty good the last few years though. Posters complaint about Whateley’s influence are right IMO. Journos like him and Barrett constantly whine about aspects of the game and have succeeded in making changes to the degree the focus is more on which players may “be in trouble” rather than the game itself. The other thing is that while you have an actual Rules Committee it is in their interest to continually look for problems and introduce half baked solutions. As with everything else including the countries government, the media call the shots

Do they still have a committee? I think now it's just Hocking, who just decides whatever he wants.

no rule changes will fix up having 60+ i50 for a return of 60 pts

maybe its as simple as there's a lack of quality forwards (forward lines) in the game? apart from a few teams who can regularly kick 100+ , most forward lines look pretty avg on paper.

also ive noticed "goals out the back" has decreased a lot this season.

also the competition is more even now, therefore not as much huge blowouts
