Mainly Edward Curnow through the midfield for the first 9 weeks. And this week Matthew Kennedy ought to be available, perhaps Darcy Lang too.

We don't need anything spectacular from these guys, just to absorb some hits and provide some physical presence. The Cripps + kids combo did really well in clearances up until a couple of weeks ago. Alas, the time has come upon us for change and wise management.

Okay. Thought you were talking about a small forward. I hope to see Ed in the middle this week with Kennedy as well. Lang in as a small defender with Simmo and Thomas up forward

Midfielder/Small forward options on our list

Murphy Cuningham Thomas Fasolo SPS Curnow Dow Fisher Stocker Lang Walsh Polson LeBois Owies Garlett Pickett Gibbons

Are we really lacking in this area or is it just that our ball use inside forward 50 is very poor (plus some injuries)?

The times this year Cripps has dominated and our midfield has done well our forward line has been dangerous.

Cunningham all year would have been a bonus. His preseason form at the feet of our talls was impressive

I am led to believe (following discussion with Geelong supporters a few years ago) that Darcy Lang is an atrocious defender. Would make sense too, he is awful overhead and that is generally an important requirement as a defender.

Would thus be a wiser move to play Lang as a forward who can rotate through the middle, given that he does have some goal nous.

Been training as a defender and looked good there in the VFL the times he went back over last 2 weeks. Be interesting to see what happens. Was very good as a mid last week though. I remember Bulldogs supporters saying Jones was tried as a defender and didn't work either. Times change

can Plowman play in the middle?

I think he would do a lot better than people would expect.

Has a large midfielder sized body. His main weakness for mine is one one one defending in marking contests. I think midfield would show up his strength a lot more. IE disposal efficiency etc

Let's give him a go. What do we habe to lose. He could be ready made support for Cripps in the middle. We could already have that support for Cripps on our list without realising.

I think once Doc is back, and willow MacReadie etc come on Plow may find it difficult fitting in the backline.

Could be a win win win.

Let's try it.

Not sure but I'd like to see it tried
I know having a tank isn't the be all and end all but he does cover a lot of territory many games so his endurance shouldn't be a problem. Just a question whether he can perform in traffic and make good decisions. Has to be worth a punt, getting another big body into the centre?

I'm all for it. I thought it was the plan when we got him. Lot of talk about him developing into a midfielder. With Weitering Jones Marchbank Macreadie Goddard Willo Schumacher etc I'm sure we can try it. Even to tag someone and provide some size around the ball.

From Geelong days, Darcy Lang was a very good and impressive small forward. Very smart reading the ball off the packs, good skills and knows where the goals are. He did however not provide any defensive pressure. If he can add that to his game, I would definitely play him forward along side Cuningham in our best 22.

If we could add Bolton and Papley our forward line would suddenly look 10× more dangerous.

Harry, Charlie and McGovern talks
Cunningham Bolton Papley sharing their feet and creating pressure.

Would love to bring those two in

Looks good doesn’t it and don’t forget Silvagni, he delivers a bit of everything.

That list doesn't fill me with hope in regards to consistent pressure/goal kicking forwards.

Murphy and Thomas can play a role up forward, but for maybe 2 more years?
Fasolo hasn't set the world on fire yet, also doesn't provide any fwd pressure.
Cunners is definitely an option, but struggles to get on the park.
Pickett is a write off for the near future.
I'd say Lebois and Garlett won't be on the list in 2020.
SPS and Dow are mids, as are Stocker and Walsh. gibbons was forced to play small forward and showed very little.
Owies is a rookie who's a project player.
Polson has a go, but can never find the footy or the goals.

We definitely need a couple of specialist small forwards who can provide pressure(i.e tackles, forcing turnovers), while also being able to kick goals.

Bolton would add an extra dimension to the forward 50 we are lacking.

We also have Jack Kerr & TDK. Papley I would like as he has some toughness & physicality which we need

If we can get a winning midfield along with all these forward options I don't see kicking a winning score as an issue.

TDK must be developed as a ruckman predominantly, otherwise we are reliant on external recruiting which is not an ideal tactic to fill a key position.

Personally you would get a better idea, if we could at least break even consistently with forward 50 entries

It can be done, certainly. But leaving it to chance with external recruitment is a risk. TDK has got everything it takes to be a commanding ruckman.
hope you are right - I'm a huge fan........
