Sad day all round. Brendan was quite obviously a terrific person and has helped develop some of our young boys into quality men. I really wanted him and us to succeed and thought he could get us there. I wish him nothing but the best for whatever opportunities present for him in the future.

Clearly something is not quite right and is holding this group back. We need to work out what it is, address the issue and get on with becoming the best club in the world again.

Out of the ashes the Phoenix rises. I hope that Phoenix is named Brett Ratten.

Interesting listening to Tim Watson and Damien Hardwick on TF.

Bolton bought into what the club was saying they’d do. Did they do it? Did they give him everything he needed to succeed? Hardwick speaking of the importance of having a good team -how he’d be no good if it wasn’t for the team around him.

Makes me think we had too many inexperienced, C-graders around Bolton which hindered the overall ability to win.

No person is as invested in this list as much as Bolton. This could have been, and still could be, an opportunity to implement a coaching model similar to that initially envisaged by Parkin all those years ago; whereby you have a specialist strategist game day coach, and an oversight coach, Bolton, with an eye over the clubs coaching vision as a whole. Am disappointed that the club appears to have gone back to the typical MO of replacing, rather than progressing its coaching model.

I wanted to sign up to post my "thank you to Bolts".

I accepted he would not take us to 17 last year when we won 3 games. In my view any coach that wins less than 5 games in year 3 is never taking you to the promised land. That said, he is a magnificent human being and can hold is head high for giving it is best shot.

Hard day when you have to let go someone of such outstanding character but sadly it had to be done, either now or at seasons end. Win / loss record aside we are playing so incredibly poorly right now and the system has fallen apart, the players have no confidence.

I do wonder if there was a disconnect of expectations between the board and Bolton? Bolts was coaching in the long term interests of the club, the most obvious evidence of that is persisting with our ridiculously young midfield setup and mostly resisting the urge to throw Curnow in and lock down. So either the board has misled him, he's incredibly stubborn or incredibly selfless. I can't work it out.

Thank you Bolts, I honestly think we're in the best position of any coaching reset in our modern history. Whomever comes in next I want to see drive competitive non-negotiables like fierce tackling and a desire to win each contest, we need to start setting that ruthless winning culture that we've been devoid of for 20 years.

Mixed emotions today. I spent the morning listening to SEN, hearing members calling in and pleading with other members to boycott the rest of the games this year. This made me really sad.

Then I got mad with how woeful we’ve been for the past two years. To think this is where we were again? Really?

Then the news that Bolton was sacked. I felt sad again and felt sorry for him. I was in shock. I didn’t expect us to swing the axe so quickly yet wasn’t surprised at the same time.

Then I felt good, relief almost, because it was like a new lease on life and some hope.

Thanks for your time Bolts. It’s a shame because I feel like we’ll never see your full potential.

I’m interested to see how our boys respond this week and for the rest of the year. I guess time will tell if it’s Bolton who can’t coach or if our boys are coach killers

Dear Aphrodite,

The Club met with Brendon Bolton this morning where he was informed that a change in the senior coaching position was in the best interests of the Carlton Football Club.

Poor on-field performances and results over a sustained period of time have reached the point where the Club was left with no choice but to make the difficult decision it has today.

Quite simply the lack of wins has fallen short of what our football club expects at this stage of its development. There was an expectation this season that we would start to see the benefits of that development however to this point that has not occurred to the level we expected and Carlton cannot afford to sit back and wait any longer.

While winning does not solely rely on one individual, the ultimate accountability sits with the senior coach.

Brendon has been an outstanding person for our football Club over the last three-and-a-half seasons.

There is no question he gave his heart and soul to the Navy Blue during that time. His care and commitment to Carlton is a testament to Brendon’s qualities not only as a coach but as a person.

We do have a responsibility to our members, fans and all stakeholders to do everything we can to improve on-field performance.

Assistant coach David Teague will take on the role of caretaker coach for the remainder of the 2019 season.

The Club will commence its search for a new senior coach, which will be done with a focus of continuing the progression of the Club’s overall strategy.

Having acquired four years’ worth of elite draft talent, development of that talent must now translate into significant on-field improvement and winning for the Carlton Football Club.

To be clear, our strategy does not change. Today is a measured step we needed to take as a football club in order to keep moving forward and will allow us to build on the work done over recent seasons.

While decisions such as today’s are difficult, they are necessary so that we can continue to progress towards our ultimate goal of winning premierships for our football club.

I'd like to see David Parkin have an advisory role. As our most successful coach and an astute strategic thinker I believe he would have a lot to offer.

We had that moment last year, old Carlton would of never kept a coach after a 2-20 season.

We did a review like those other clubs you mentioned (after nowhere near as bad a season as what our 2018 was), then those clubs rose to top 4.

No one was expecting us to do that, but no way known if any of those clubs were 1-10 or whatever the year after their review would of kept those coaches.

Sometimes you just have to make a move on a coach, seems like some people think coaches should be retained no matter what.

I disagree . Those coaches teams at least showed more competitiveness and won games from time to time. In the last two years apart from a game here and there we’ve been largely well beaten. It’s very different.

Bolton won’t ever be remembered as a Carlton legend..maybe will be remembered as a guy who was part of a total cluster **** or will not be remembered at all.. but this is all part and parcel of the ‘new Carlton ‘ the Carlton that has sunk to the very depths ... though never stood a chance in the shark tank..

What we need to remember is he was only one of two applicants .thats not ideal!

Exactly....? It's a completely different scenario then all those you previously listed.

Class act from start to finish. Caring and passionate about the club in all aspects.

Elite sport is a brutal business and administration apathy won’t serve you well. Went through the correct appointment process and took an educated gamble on a realistically untried coach without a comparable track record. For whatever reason it didn’t work.

Hopefully it sends a strong message to the playing group of the realities of underperforming in this industry and the potential consequences.

Whoever picks him up as an assistant coach will strike gold.
