imo these premierships shouldn't count, its not the evolution of vfl to afl, its the big players from the vfa moving to create the vfl. they are totally different competitions, can't be compared.

The VFA was a stand alone and the senior competition in Victoria at the time 1870 to 1896, - it’s logical that they should be counted. You’re not comparing because the VFL wasn’t created till 1897.

No they shouldnt be counted.
team broke away from VFA to form the VFL in 1897.
The VFL rebranded itself to AFL and invited other teams to join the already established league
VFA, SANFL and WAFL should not be counted for this reason.

Sorry don’t agree, the VFL teams from the VFA were the senior teams - and created a senior competition in the VFL, which then morphed into the AFL.

The SANFL, WAFL haven’t morphed into anything else.

I agree on the Sanfl Wafl and the VFL = AFl
the only disagreement is the senior teams form the VFA left that league to form their own. The VFA operated as its own league until 1995.

Once the senior clubs elected to leave the VFA and form their own league they started form scratch in a new league.

Carlton has 6 VFA cups and 16 VFL/AFL but I dont believe they should be tallied together.
