GI’s club is Ormond. He only comments here via his mobile app and has a strange habit of leaving a space before his commas and full stops. Other than that I can’t tell you too much more about him. I also enjoy the Phantom, and like how he loves his club..not clubs.

Thanks for picking me up on my spacing Hipp . I was at Ormond but will never be back while a certain person is there . Try to follow a couple of local clubs and sometimes I might be under a tree at the Gunn , that’s all .

Thanks Hippster. GE is in its 50th year. I started this club with a few mates at the ripe old age of 20. I am very proud of where we are now thanks to a great president and his wonderful team. Sadly a lot of helpers I've met over the years are like me getting older. Recruiting helpers is far harder than recruiting players. If not for these people there would be no clubs. Clubs must learn to respect helpers. GE award volunteer of the week during the after game speeches. Not a bad idea for other clubs to consider.

That's a fantastic post and very true , volunteers are the lifeblood of all VAFA clubs , but their not falling out of trees.
I see you had a function for your best ever team , where can I view it please ?

I think on our Web page. It's the best team in the last 20 years only. Gleneirafnc.com.au or facebook

Good Call. Bergman and Capiron the best two when we (Ivanhoe) played against them in my era.

Glen Eira are a St Kilda cbc/ Sth Caulfield / Murrembeena corroboration right ?

Add Glen Huntly, Monash Gryphons, Malvern South.
Original name was South Caulfield changed to Murrembeena south Caulfield no merger. Then merged with CBC St Kilda and changed to St Kilda South Caulfield. Most of the original South Caulfield boys came from CBC . We changed our name to Glen Eira when the council name changed and recently added Gryphons when we merged with Monash Gryphons. Great move and the club is thriving especially with the u19 side and the women's team all thanks to McKinnon college. Survival is the key at the moment. You only have to see what has happened to St Johns and Chadstone. So Glen Eira have become a huge combine retaining old histories .

For those who believe that it is all one-way traffic with Premier clubs pillaging the lower grades this is a good example that it goes both ways. At least 3 players in that team plus the coach came via DLS. Have not included W-C in that count as I’m not sure he ever played with DLS but he did go to the school.

Well done to GE for being able to keep the club alive. Taking into account relative school size, CBC always punched above their weight but demographics and student numbers made it very tough to continue on their own. Seem to have consolidated now with 19s and women’s and hopefully a get juniors up at some stage.

Every time I ask a mate from the Nodders who he rated as the best players he played on, Ralph Bergman's name always comes up. Interestingly, he tells me that Ralph was his physio also.....looked after him during the week, then played on him on the weekend....

Ralph booted 17 v BT in 1992 or 1993 in C Grade. He was unbelievable that day.

Remember it well. Great effort. Equally watching Matt Ryan moving to FF at Whitefriars with a broken foot and kicking 6 goals in the second half. Pretty sure Ralph had a stint at Melbourne seconds and Matt at Richmond seconds.
