Another positive is Gaff’s noticeable improvement. Seems as though he’s now looking to handball it out under pressure instead of just hack kicking it all the time

+ Petrol not relying solely on speed;stop and prop [Negative from last week ]
- More variety kicking out from fullback [ negative from last week ].If players work hard across the middle of the ground to present it means defenders have to work harder to fill space and man up.40m passes for Jetta and Hurn are Ho-hum.
- Schoey looks like he wants to stay in the team and i think Barass coming back may see Cole out and Schoey stay.[ at this stage ]
- Darling rucking in the forward line was a good move because it has forced him to initiate contact;something he ;at times;seems loath to do.It also gets JK up the ground. When the ball isnt reaching our 50 for long periods it seems silly to have a player of JKs talents sitting idle.
-I seem to be putting Vardy in my positives a fair bit lately.
-Jetta was quite hard at it at times..WTF??
-How good is OAllen gunna be in 50 games time.

_ They let us off the hook early.
-We need to look at how the Bullies attacked our defence. They used 15-25m daisycutter passing to try to get inside our 50.Its a strategy we need to incorporate into our attack. We have got some of the best small forwards ever to represent this club.We have had an unhealthy reliance on Jk so more variety gives us more options and takes the pressure off him.We dont lose by going shortr and low cos JK and JD are both good ground players.

-On the Healy discussion;he does like the Eagles and i think it came about coz of NN.Healy likes genuine super talent. When super talent becomes super team its a natural progression.

So I said it the game day thread.

We are coming out very strong in the second half of most games, and looking poor in the first half.

Are teams throwing everything at us in the first half, we weather the storm and then up a gear in the second half? Is it a tactical ploy?
We have seen a change across the whole competition over the last couple of weeks.
The flood and run tactics used by average and poor teams have given them a sniff early in games but this can not be sustained for four quarters let alone a full season.
Clubs numbers men and strategists are seeing the slow down in possessions, distance covered and contested gets and realise that this style won’t win games in September
The result is games are opening up, more inside 50 entries and more goals by key forwards.
The better drilled and skilled teams will again raise to the top as sure as certain

Of the 2 players that have faster 3 goal blitzes, did one or both of them include a double goal due to a free given away after one goal to essentially give them 2 in 10 seconds?

Not football related but a big negative, spotted in a smoking area outside the stadium, a pair of parents wearing Bulldogs colors both with a cigarette in their mouth helping a small child suck on his ventolin puffer, WTAF.

Yeah I saw that too but on a closer look realised the "small child" was in fact Caleb Daniels.

Dogs supporters. Basically the real people portrayed in the Chopper film. The heroin addict mom and Jimmy Loughnan are related to Danny Southern. Enough said.

There's bogans in every supporter base. Not even sure how you'd stereotype a dogs fan when they barely exist in the first place

Totally understandable but some of Petch's efforts are pretty piss weak currently. Might be fast and coralling but hes not putting on actual tackling pressure.

Runs under the ball when he could mark it. Doesn't like the high ball, even when he's in the clear.

Very soft attempts to tackle, sometimes he even refuses and just let's the ball carrier run past him as he "man's up" someone else.

Would love to get an NRL coach/player in to work on his tackling technique or something in the off-season.
Good points about petch. I do wonder if he is tiring as the season continues.

Interesting to note however, that Petch is averaging 1 tackle a game more than Sheed !

When Darlings at his best he's just a nightmare to match up against. This game just proves it. Young the hybrid defender (similar height) struggled to handle him in the air and 1v1) but guys like Cordy and Trengrove just got exposed through endurance and speed. The same thing happened against the tiger last year. The tigers game was something else tbh. He bossed the talls like Rance/Astrbury and just made a joke out of Grimes, Vluastin and in the end Broad.

JD has immense talent but being a confidence player, he needs to be performing at a high work rate every week for him to do so. Not the JK sort that can be coasting but still kick 5-6.

Also JD's is a genuine threat at boundary throw in. He just bosses bigger opponents out the way like they're nothing.

To expand on OP post I always think during games how brilliant the kick and mark style is. In the last quarters we also have a significant advantage by from using the game plan. Teams are tired but they are also less comfortable using the corridor to run an carry since mistakes in the last quarter are amplified. Therefore, teams in the last will inadvertently revert to static ball movement and kicks down the line due to those two factors leaving us with an advantage in the last.

Pretty interesting to hear Schoey chime in on the Coast to Coast Podcast. Saying last year Jack said he needed to simplify things he didn't want to or need to know what the backline was doing. Too much for him to process.

Hopefully Jack is back baby

Jack is like a 69 Camaro. Sexy af to look at, and packing plenty of power, but no intelligence like EFI or ABS.

He’s a gun user of the ball and very Sam Mitchell like at times. That said him in defence is a joke but I can’t see him making as mid/wing due to his size and lack of foot speed.
Watching Caleb Daniel live is quite amusing. It's like watching a child play in under 14s.

**** me he's got skills though. Damn fine player.
