Spend six figures on logo as goal review farce extends to 3rd game in row

The AFL employ dedicated umpires who do nothing else but officiate the goals. They employ 3 field + 2 boundaries + 2 goal + 1 emergency = 8 umpires for every game. How many other sports do that? Fair to say that the AFL have prioritized it - but have fallen short in the execution?

Who is responsible for the score reviews?

The AFL logo doesn't require any alteration, it's already a good logo. My guess is they just wish to incorporate the AFLX and AFLW into it all? View attachment 688713The NFL logo changes over the past 60 years....not much of a difference is there? The AFL must get the score review system working instead of friggin' around with logos!

Exactly pretty sure the NBA would be similar

Seriously concerning thing is how they talked up introducing the snicko “AFL Edge” on the goal posts, yet I’ve never seen any proof that it actually exists let alone does anything.

It picked up one of Jenkins shots hitting the post earlier. But it was paid a goal and no review was conducted.

We all know the chances of the new logo being better than the current one are slim to none.

I've heard a rumour they're going to incorporate the black, red and yellow of the indigenous flag into the new logo so as to better represent indigenous Australians and acknowledge the game as a game indigenous to Australia.

Not really but would be worth it just to see the epic melts

Multi billion dollar industry and they can’t invest in ultra high def cameras to put an end to this pixelated farce?

Not up to Foxtel or C7 to do this, the AFL should take some of the Hundreds of mill they receive each year to do it

And here's the new logo.

Iron Eagle looking over its left shoulder - symbolises the AFL's socialist leanings
spreading of wings - dedication to future success of expan$ion clubs
swastika - persecution of fans considered "impure"

All for the bargain price of $100K in plundered gold bullion. Sieg Heil!

The league released this statement today:

The AFL advises the score review following a Jack Higgins (Richmond) shot for goal in the second quarter of the Round 12 match between Richmond and the Geelong Cats at the MCG has been assessed.

The available vision showed there was clear and sufficient evidence to overturn the umpire’s call of a behind to a goal, however, the score review official did not review this particular piece of vision.

AFL General Manager, Football Operations - Steve Hocking:

“The score review system was introduced to correct obvious scoring errors.

“In the last fortnight, there have been significant errors made during score reviews that have undermined the confidence of our clubs and the football public in the system.

“The AFL acknowledges that our players, our clubs and our fans are incredibly frustrated by each mistake, and we take full responsibility for them.

“We are committed to ensuring we have the best process and technology available and over the last few months have been examining all possible alternative to improve the score review system.

“We will keep the football public fully informed as we explore avenues to improve the system, such as the potential for a centralised officiating facility covering all venues and matches.

“In the interim we will continue to engage our score review officials, broadcast and technology partners in ensuring the current system operates as effectively as possible.”

AFL comment should have also said "Unlike the week before (between Collingwood and Fremantle), where the incorrect review actually affected the result, and therefore ladder position and seeding come finals time, Richmond still ended up being pumped by Geelong, whether this goal was allowed or not."

I don’t get what the big issue with goal review is except having a score reviewer with eyes painted on.

Surely this issue is an easy fix? Just stunned by the incompetence the last few times.

Yeah the technology in terms of picking up the touch didn't fail, the reviewer just needs time and access to look at the replays. Pretty simple I'd have thought and not indicative of an entire overhaul being necessary.

I still think there is a lot dodgy about it but the touched incidents that have been the talking point are easy.

The AFL is wanting to move the GF to twilight to "Enhance the experience" And by that they mean 1/2 time entertainment.

AS one who works in the business here in the US - it will cost more $$. Way more $$.

But they are willing to do it for the spectacle.

However, they also wont pay to fix the Goal Review system or do it properly.

Where the * are these peoples priorities? U2, Elton John, Bon Jovi, John Maher et al wont be fronting for under 1 million an hour.

But Gil will pay it for the "enhanced " experience -but wont fix the game.

Sadly the game is just a byproduct now of the business and its a damn shame.

Go Catters
