There had to more to it. Surely nobody gets ejected for the comments in the OP?

Theres a factual dispute as to whether what the fan said was "bald headed flog" or "bald headed ****"...

Either or... its play on. People are so f***ing precious. the "AFaiL" are the biggest virtue signalling set of sanctimonious pricks going around.

Welcome to the world we live in 2019. There are a lot of PC offended who are thrilled at this.
You not wrong. The times of going to football and venting some anger in reasonable way without others being offended has probably been over for well over a decade. If anybody complains about raised voice etc. or even fairly harmless words like flog or tosser or what not, could see security into you. you just got to understand that when you goto football now. Reflection of modern society with mobile phones their thought police weapon. Incredibly, at same time can have lowest common denominator of mob mentality just mindlessly boo to like to be heard as a mob but actually got no idea individually why they doing it, in most cases.

This is satire right?

Füllt grown adults get so emotionally invested in a game of sport they they turn to hurling abuse at a person who’s employed on a semi-professional basis to adjudicate the rules set by the administration?

How about some personal accountability

The game is built on the passion it inspires. It ain't the tennis and it ain't the polo. Without the passion it is nothing.

If you want sanitised entertainment, watch a Disney movie.

and another thing, these fooking umpires will do anything to try and hog the limelight.Look at the way chamberlain carries on. we don't go to the footy to watch these umpires.
Yep ray is so obvious. Most times after a goal ray is sniffing a drink out right next to the goalkicker (tex walkers last quarter goal yesterday). Also asking Phil Davis how he rolls??? Twice. Just after being involved in a bit of wrestle with an opponent. Try hard.

Lucky the bloke didn’t say anything about Elani being bald then all hell could have broken loose..
She is so far out of her depth as an umpire it’s not funny and surely is only kept around for the look of the game not her expert decision making.

I think it is for her center square power bounces

It happens gradually in stages.
It won't be long before yelling "That's a bad call!" Or "bulls--- call" or just swearing at the game will have the same and result because that is the path that these people are leading society down. You won't think so, but just wait. Soon it's the only thing they will have to be offended about and someone will push it.

Pretty sure that season in round one Minson bounced the ball while being tackled (free kick).

The AV guys slipped that footage into every game review for three months!

Not sure if even that would be allowed today

“I’ve been abused in my workplace and you’ve done nothing about it. I’ve now got mental health issues and my situation has lead to a deterioration of my family life. My union will be in touch. ”

It was really only a matter of time before the AFL started cracking down on this sort of thing when you think about it.

“I’ve been abused in my workplace and you’ve done nothing about it. I’ve now got mental health issues and my situation has lead to a deterioration of my family life. My union will be in touch. ”

"When I signed on as a parking inspector and part-time umpire, I expected my employers to supply me with cheerful customers. The AFL defends my performance constantly; I can't understand why people would be unhappy."

Surely mild verbal abuse (which this is) is part of the job for an AFL level umpire. I dunno, it's like a bad guy on the wrestling getting upset because he gets hissed at. FWIW, if (and I reiterate IF) this bloke did use a homophobic term, I would have thought a quick word from security not to use that sort of language would be enough.

I saw a player having a finger jabbed into his chest by his coach and given a mouthful last week. This is not acceptable behaviour in any workplace, yet we tolerate it at the football. Why?

I think people have to accept that the footy workplace is completely different to other workplaces. Which other job do thousands of people turn up and pay to watch someone work?

Football clubs aren't like other businesses. If a restaurant served up some of the shit some footy clubs do, people wouldn't be coming back week after week hoping it will get better. Fans don't buy a membership and after one or two wins in a season demand to be refunded their money. You would if you had an awful meal or the service was shit.

Sport is unique like this. Comparing it to other jobs or businesses is misleading and expecting paying customers to act like they would at a restaurant or a supermarket is unrealistic.

I’m glad he got thrown out. The umpires are trying to do their job to the best of their ability with the direction they are given. It is hard enough as it is. It’s no wonder why many don’t want to umpire. What a malicious disrespectful comment. Can people really not watch footy without insults!?? He should lose his membership too if Blues were serious about what represents the club. Well done to Nicholls for not taking any of the fans crap! I hope more follow suit!

Understandable that a Bulldogs supporter would defend the umpires, they carried you to the 2016 premiership and have given you a great ride ever since.

Try being a supporter of a club where you get routinely screwed by incompetent umpiring, Nicholls is one of the worst offenders, he's a terrible umpire.

Yep, that settles that and hopefully people can stop with the illogical analogies.

The traditional approach has always worked well - emphasise to the public that it's a difficult job (which it surely is) and accept that mistakes are made and that fans like to let off steam. A bit of give and take.

Did the AFL learn nothing from Anderson's experiment with the MRP, trying to control everything to the nth degree? They are still hamstrung by the remnants of that system. "Ruthless logic is the sign of a limited mind."

The footy is a place where passion and fancy flow free. Providing advice to the umpires at half time is a time-honoured tradition.
