If we can continue being competitive with no more blowouts and snagging a few decent wins I hope Teaguey throws his hat into the ring and is strongly considered.

Boys clearly love him (basing that off zero knowledge just my own perception) and I feel it would be great for the young group to appoint someone from within if his form and or record warrants it.

He seems quite relatable and I think the young group can benefit from that rather than being being drilled into oblivion. Not saying that’s what Bolts did or what Lyon/Scott/Voss would do but I think what the young group needs is stability rather than a complete upheaval.

Not sure if I was an aspiring senior coach if I would like a “director” standing behind me.

I’d like to make own decisions and mistakes and would prefer a solid group of assistants around me.

Only my opinion and it means diddily squat in the scheme of things.

Also am keen to see how Teaguey can motivate from week to week as that is huge. Also adapting and changing structures/tactics throughout the match.

It has only been one match and a couple of pressers/interviews but I’m happy so far.

EDIT: So barass now states that maybe Teague and Bolton didn't see eye to eye?
Absolutely no surprise at all. Could see that at the start of the year. All that talk of happiness and unity......why?

Something happened in the period between the North and GWS games.

Blind Freddy could see that it was not just our demographics, but something deeper and structural.

Thankfully that pressure-valve has been released.

I understand that Barass has good mail. But just think about this logically - new concept for most you I know - but just try it for once.

Two things:

1. Do you really think that whoever Barass knows at the club is in every forward line structure meeting with Bolton and Teague? And if there was a difference of opinion, why is it automatic that Bolton is the one that was wrong? Granted, the forward line on occasions this year hasn't worked. But is that a systemic forward line structure issue or is it a symptom of a young and inexperienced team with delivery into the forward line from young and inexperienced onballers further up the ground?

2. Bolton spent EIGHT years at one of the most successful clubs of the modern era. Do you really think what he was trying to implement at Carlton would have been so far removed from what went on at Hawthorn or any other AFL club for that matter?

You take one game and hearsay from someone (no matter what his 'mail reputation' may be) to fit your own naive and illogical arguments that Bolton can't coach.

Is it possible that since Bolton was only with the one AFL team for those 8 years he didn’t really get a wide breadth of coaching ideas and practices, and instead of gaining the flexibility to create and adapt his own structures that fit the players, he tried to implement Clarko’s structures that work with hawthorns players?

That depends on Clarko’s availability. If they secure Clarko there is nothing he can do short of making finals, winning at least one and inspiring an uprising of the membership.

If Clarko stays at Hawthorn (as expected) he would need to get Carlton just beyond where they expected to be this year, e.g. a 50/50 win loss under his stewardship, i.e 7-8 wins for the season.

Just my thoughts.
Unless Clarko wants a challenge at a new club he won't leave Hawthorn

He’ll definitely be considered if he coaches a few more wins in the second half of our season, and he’s already recorded was is likely our best win of the past few years. Small sample size, but he’s been coaching for a decent period of time, and his methologies appear to match up with the list he’s got at his disposal.

Sometimes you don’t know what you’ve got until you make a wholesale change, and the best candidate just happens to be the guy sitting second in charge.

The club will definitely give him a fair trial, but you can’t underplay how important that second win was for the playing group. Hopefully it starts to snowball from here.

He made the move to tag Neil when he was dominating. Winner for mine. I’d been screaming for Bolts to do this earlier. Although we were helped hugely by Zorko getting a knock.

I've posted it 100 times.....but will go look for it......just for you. :)

That was quick.

I know what I took out of it - Uncertainty. Worse than uncertainty, actually.

Thanks Harks.

hmmmm - I can't comment either way - it is the sort of "interviewee talk style" - that makes me forget I ever watched something - which I probably did! Do you think you may have been looking for 'validation' regarding failure to pick up a small forward or not ( despite Bugg) ...

I dont know how you read the interview as being a sign of disharmony between Bolton and him? Unless maybe Bolton didn't understand the importance of dedicated specialist role players and hence SOS didn't look too hard...I don't know ..it is kinda looking in rear view mirror stuff for mine.

I've moved on anyway ...looking forward to the 5 wins after the bye and some really close losses and no smashings received.

Fair call. However, Hardwick and Simpson didn't coach at other clubs before getting their senior gigs. Plus there is enough evidence in the form of Clarkson's success, plus the success of other ex-Hawthorn assistant coaches to suggest there has been no better coaching set up in the modern era. Maybe the side wasn't ready for these structures right now, but are we coaching for the long term to win a premiership or are we coaching for the now and we might sit around 8th for the next 10 years? I know which I'd prefer.

If one goes looking for skeletons in cupboards you will always find something that looks like it might be.
I see nothing at all there besides a new guy in a new job with a young unproven list.

But it really is time to move on from might haves and could be's....:p

Wot? Bolton's structures were poor and didn't fit the personnel he had at his disposal. Premiership coaches win by fitting a system to their players. The exact opposite of what was happening here. Bolts for all the brilliant things he did at this club got structure really wrong.

This will be eternally debated BUT...IMO , Bolton was trying to train and condition our very young players into a structured game plan ie trying to make the players fit his structures- not vica versa.
The players showed that they had partially grasped it early on in the season and this seems to have been forgotten. We played some darn good football until our confidence got shattered. We will never know, but there is no reason to suspect that our players couldn't have eventually got there with maturity, a good run with injuries, and , a few extra key players . So IMO BB was on the right track- one that was endorsed by the board etc. Its just that they ran out of time. Blinked if you will.
Sure we will get a sugar hit with a few more wins this year under Teague, rather than most likely a disastrous second half of the season under BB. IMO the board etc sat down and analysed our remaining games and felt that the winnable games (rnd 12-18) Lions, Bulldogs, Dockers, demons, swans were going to now be unlikely due to the way the players were playing (without confidence) and that the other games (rnds 19-23) Crows Eagles Tigers cats were unwinnable . Projecting a potential winless second half, they decided that BB's position would be untenable.
We shall see what DT is capable of over the next month - have we just got a sugar hit, Or have we turned the corner?

Agree with you Blue and Blue we've got to quickly move on , time and tide wait for no man, Brendon is a high quality person and respected by all, unfortunately results were negative throughout his tenure. So the club released him.
I'm embracing Teaugy , observe how he interrelates and motivates the players and how positive the results.
A game at the time.

Next match is critical.
We smashed the Doggies last time, you can be sure Bevo won’t play with the same set up.
Teague will be fully aware that the Dogs will try something different and how he responds will be a great gauge of his coaching abilities.
This will be a damn hard game to win.

He’s gone mate.
We can’t change that.

Harder the better ..as long as we win..

Certainly what it looked like seeing us play.

Robbo (!!!!!) made the point tonight, that say Teague manages another 4 wins in the remaining weeks, that was the expectation of BB took keep his job.

Also, and it was only said in passing, but he touched on Barass' mail. Something to the effect of "I've heard from a couple of people that Bolton and Teague didn't see eye to eye on how the game should be played "

Not great the opposition getting 6 goals up but pretty good to get a win and I'm happy for him in this regard.

Just work on keeping simple logical structures and keep pushing the players who aren't putting in 100% and keep it simple and see what happens I think.

We beat the Lions but we had a few players out there who weren't putting in and were lost like headless chooks so they need to be worked on.

Liked that we stretched the offensive side of our press and kept players deeper forward but there's a lot of work to do getting that right and if he can do that then I can't see why Teague would not be a genuine contender.

Teague has the opportunity to really show what he has to offer.
