Review Pies defeat Dees (98-57)

I thought Aish was fantastic. Really looks good in defence when his field kicking is good. He wins a lot of disputed ground footy and is really assured with his handballing. The whole defence were amazing and only got caught out a few times. So solid.
Agree.

Looks very composed and generally hits his targets. He went at 75% disposal efficiency today which is impressive.

The issue isn't that he hasn't been coached, it's that a few just refuse to acknowledge the coaches he has. Does anyone actually know how Rocca and Rendell rate as coaches relative to others?
I thought Rocca was at Carlton as their goalkicking coach now we had let him go? Are you saying hes still at Westpac Centre?? 🤔

Sav is helping at Carlton, not Anthony, who is still at the club

Collingwood have responded after a poor performance against the Dockers, by winning every quarter on offer against Melbourne to prevail by 41 points. The Magpies got out of the blocks fairly quickly without kicking accurately in the opening term, before converting crucial goals to keep the lead intact in the second term. After half time, the Woods would not miss any more goals, while the Demons frittered away most of their opportunities and were ultimately outplayed when goals were needed to be converted.

Collingwood did not dominate the statistical sheets in a manner they normally would in other matches. The Pies only won a handful of categories, such as kicks by +3 (227 - 224), uncontested possessions were won by +7 (255 - 248), hit-outs by +3 (37 - 34), tackles by +16 (70 - 54), marks were won by +10 (99 - 89), uncontested marks by +6 (85 - 79), Contested Marks by +4 (14 - 10) and Marks Inside 50, which was +2 (13 - 11). Intercept possessions was the last category that the Woods had a positive differential. The differntial was +2 (82 - 80). Melbourne had gains in disposals by +10 (418 - 408), +13 for handballs (194 - 181), clearances were +17 (46 - 29), centre clearances by +10 (16 - 6), stoppage clearances were won by +7 (30 - 23), while contested possessions were +27 (170 - 143). Inside 50's had a differential of +2 (58 - 56) and Tackles Inside 50 was +4 (13 - 9).

Adam Treloar (34 disposals @ 59%, 608 metres gained, 10 contested possessions, 24 uncontested possessions, 18 kicks, 16 handballs, 2 marks, 6 tackles, 6 score involvements, 5 clearances, 5 stoppage clearances, 5 Inside 50's & 1 goal) was at his prolific best, despite torching the ball at times. Tom Phillips (27 disposals @ 67%, 460 metres gained, 13 contested possessions, 14 uncontested possessions, 5 intercept possessions, 18 kicks, 9 handballs, 3 marks, 6 score involvements, 5 clearances, 4 stoppage clearances, 4 Inside 50's & 5 Rebound 50's) caught my eye with his defensive work from stoppages in defence. Steele Sidebottom (27 disposals @ 74%, 554 metres gained, 10 contested possessions, 17 uncontested possessions, 7 intercept possessions, 17 kicks, 10 handballs, 4 marks, 6 tackles, 3 score involvements, 4 clearances, 4 stoppage clearances, 2 Rebound 50's & 1 goal) played his finest game of the season. Scott Pendlebury (24 disposals @ 62%, 337 metres gained, 3 contested possessions, 21 uncontested possessions, 2 intercept possessions, 10 kicks, 14 handballs, 6 marks, 4 tackles, 4 score involvements, 2 Inside 50's & 2 Rebound 50's) was off the boil in an uncharacteristic game from the skipper. Brayden Sier (23 disposals @ 65%, 336 metres gained, 14 contested possessions, 9 uncontested possessions, 3 intercept possessions, 9 kicks, 14 handballs, 2 marks, 9 tackles, 3 Tackles Inside 50, 3 score involvements, 4 clearances, 2 centre clearances, 2 stoppage clearances & 7 Inside 50's) had an impact with his disposals and tackling numbers in a sound return to AFL footy. Chris Mayne (20 disposals @ 75%, 251 metres gained, 4 contested possessions, 16 uncontested possessions, 4 intercept possessions, 13 kicks, 7 handballs, 6 marks, 4 tackles, 2 clearances & 2 stoppage clearances) played a solid game without dominating, and Brodie Grundy (14 disposals @ 71%, 146 metres gained, 8 contested possessions, 6 uncontested possessions, 4 intercept possessions, 8 kicks, 6 handballs, 30 hit-outs, 6 marks, 3 tackles, 5 score involvements, 4 clearances, 2 centre clearances, 2 stoppage clearances & 1 goal) gets an honourable mention for competing against Max Gawn with a neck complaint. Enjoy your recovery during the bye, Brodie!

Jeremy Howe (22 disposals @ 77%, 376 metres gained, 5 contested possessions, 17 uncontested possessions, 6 intercept possessions, 13 kicks, 9 handballs, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 2 score involvements & 9 Rebound 50's) provided adequate transition from defence. James Aish (21 disposals @ 81%, 425 metres gained, 5 contested possessions, 16 uncontested possessions, 6 intercept possessions, 11 kicks, 10 handballs, 7 marks, 2 Contested Marks, 2 tackles, 3 score involvements, 2 Inside 50's & 5 Rebound 50's) was neat with his ball use and decision-making. Jack Crisp (19 disposals @ 90%, 231 metres gained, 7 contested possessions, 12 uncontested possessions, 6 intercept possessions, 8 kicks, 11 handballs, 3 marks, 3 tackles, 3 score involvements & 3 Rebound 50's) had a very poor first half, before responding with a respectable second half. Brayden Maynard (18 disposals @ 94%, 367 metres gained, 5 contested possessions, 13 uncontested possessions, 6 intercept possessions, 11 kicks, 7 handballs, 5 marks, 4 tackles, 2 Inside 50's & 6 Rebound 50's) continued his excellent form and ball use from defence. Jordan Roughead (14 disposals @ 86%, 252 metres gained, 5 contested possessions, 9 uncontested possessions, 9 intercept possessions, 9 kicks, 5 handballs, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 3 score involvements, 2 Inside 50's & 4 Rebound 50's) is proving to be a stable and steady influence in defence. Levi Greenwood (13 disposals @ 77%, 125 metres gained, 3 contested possessions, 10 uncontested possessions, 4 intercept possessions, 7 kicks, 6 handballs, 4 marks & 4 tackles) is flourishing in his role away from the midfield by closing down small forwards at every opportunity, and Darcy Moore (13 disposals @ 92%, 256 metres gained, 7 contested possessions, 6 uncontested possessions, 9 intercept possessions, 7 kicks, 6 handballs, 5 marks, 3 Contested Marks, 3 score involvements, 2 Inside 50's & 3 Rebound 50's) provided some dare which he was not able to do the previous game that he played. Liked that he wanted to take the game on when it was warranted.

Brody Mihocek (20 disposals @ 65%, 415 metres gained, 12 contested possessions, 8 uncontested possessions, 3 intercept possessions, 11 kicks, 9 handballs, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 2 goal assists, 6 score involvements, 6 Inside 50's, 2 Rebound 50's & 1 goal) worked extremely hard for his possessions, particularly in-tight and in-close from the contest. Jaidyn Stephenson (19 disposals @ 47%, 423 metres gained, 7 contested possessions, 12 uncontested possessions, 2 intercept possessions, 16 kicks, 3 handballs, 9 marks, 2 Contested Marks, 6 Marks Inside 50, 3 tackles, 2 Tackles Inside 50, 2 goal assists, 11 score involvements, 3 Inside 50's, 2 Rebound 50's & 3 goals) was everywhere without convering necessarily well. Will Hoskin-Elliott (19 disposals @ 79%, 281 metres gained, 2 contested possessions, 17 uncontested possessions, 2 intercept possessions, 13 kicks, 6 handballs, 12 marks, 4 Marks Inside 50, 7 score involvements, 2 Inside 50's & 3 goals) played his best game of the 2019 season to date. Callum Brown (14 disposals @ 79%, 155 metres gained, 4 contested possessions, 10 uncontested possessions, 2 intercept possessions, 4 kicks, 10 handballs, 7 tackles, 4 score involvements & 3 Inside 50) applied plenty of forward-half tackling and pressure to remain relevant. Jordan De Goey (13 disposals @ 77%, 379 metres gained, 5 contested possessions, 8 uncontested possessions, 8 kicks, 5 handballs, 7 score involvements, 6 Inside 50's & 3 goals) played a very nimble game with positioning and footy-smarts on display for all to see, and Mason Cox (10 disposals @ 60%, 173 metres gained, 7 contested possessions, 3 uncontested possessions, 6 kicks, 4 handballs, 7 hit-outs, 5 marks, 4 Contested Marks, 2 Marks Inside 50, 3 tackles, 2 score involvements & 1 goal) provided a marking option all day in his first game since Anzac Day against the Bombers.

Collingwood's next game after the bye will be against the Western Bulldogs on June 23 at Marvel Stadium. Winning the contested ball and centre clearances against the Bulldogs will be paramount and imperative in ensuring that the forwards have easier and quicker access to the footy. Address those two deficiencies, and victory shall be secured.

So much to like about our backline and dangerous forwards and so little to be impressed about from the midfield. Lowered their colours and wouldn’t have beaten a decent team with that performance.
Not sure what is wrong, might be tactical as much as anything at stoppages/bounces, oppo usually seem to be better positioned. Or might just need Adams back in combo with Sier..

Took my 5 year old Nephew to his first game today. Some turbulent times trying to keep him interested, but thankfully he loved celebrating goals and we managed to kick enough that he had something to yell at every 5-10 minutes lol.

He also has a new favourite (or first favourite really), and he has good taste. Jaidyn Stephenson has got this young fella hooked.

Thank me whenever you wish, I had to fight off an Essendon supporting grandpa, an Essendon supporting uncle, my fiancé who’s also Essendon and this out of the blue infatuation with the Tigers. He’s well and truly ours, and as long as I keep taking him to games he’ll be a Magpie for life!

I have to take my 6yr old "adhd" (gee arent they all now since the ndis gravy train rolled into town 🙄) neice to the gold coast game, my brother decided that was the best and safest game for her to go to for her first real live AFL game to watch. Against my protestations and advice for precisely the reasons youve said above that kept your nephew interested enough not to chuck a wobbly...either its going to be a raging success if we demolish the suns, or we'll probably get kicked out by security. Theyre very trigger happy these days

Well we need the other one probably more urgently than brodie needs a ruck coach, our kicking especially our set shot goalkicking leaves a lot to be desired
True, although Melbourne was shocking yesterday

Relieved to see WHE play so well yesterday. He really does take some games, after a break, to build back to his best in terms of touch, timing, confidence. The same with Aish. These guys rarely dominate games, but once they have 'it' back, their contribution is invaluable.

Team looking a bit flat? Add one tough nut and a seven foot Texan.

Sier is the missing piece in our midfield, for all our class and run we lack grunt: Sier was comfortable butting heads with the Dees hard men in a way only Beams and maybe Adams would be. So glad we didn't have to use our Lamborghinis in Sidey Treloar and Pendles to dig ditches.

Cox was in the Dees heads, did not play at all well yet they were watching him the whole time. With De Goey there as well there were too many to watch and Mihocek, Stephenson and H/E made them pay. I love Reid but an underdone out of form Cox still causes the opposition to bend themselves out of shape. If it is a straight choice Mihocek and Cox are our two big forwards for mine, Reid is spare parts.

This side is getting better balanced, obviously Adams comes back in (for who? Varcoe is going ok, Phillips is getting back into form...maybe Greenwood?) but this is close to our finals side.

He was good. I think because in the last few weeks he has played some blinders... so it overshadows today where he just played his role.

at least once a game he attacks a contest, or just runs so ridiculously hard straight through a contest, that you just sit back and think woah. Has to be inspiring being out there on the field and seeing that.
Lol. He’s had a good three weeks. I have never seen him play anything approaching a blinder. Closest was probably the QB game a year or two ago where he got absolutely smashed in a marking contest and it ****ed his season.

I love what Greenwood is doing out there.. but when it comes to football I'm a 'go for the jugular' type of bloke re.. taking a punt on IQ over Greenwood. Have him flying out of the back half reaking havoc..

And we need to appreciate Aish and what he's doing out there.. still relatively new role and all.. hasn't been easy.. we tried Crisp in the guts v Freo for 8 clangers.. don't blame him for those.. he was totally out of his comfort zone. Well that's an indication of how difficult it is for some when they're in a spot they're not necessarily used to.

Over time I reckon Aish will be just as consistent and reliable as Crisp in the back 50. There'll come a stage where we barely mention him in any conversation.. bit like Crisp.. know his there.. does his job.. not even on a dart board when deciding who's in and out re.

Need to see a transmission specialist so we can find that next gear consistently. It's like we shift up to 3rd and then we drop it down one and we're stuck in 2nd unless we're forced to find it.
