Review Pies defeat Dees (98-57)

Cox just needs to work on those times where he gets moved under the ball in marking contests and just fails to compete at all, he had a few moments in the first half but improved as the game went on.
In terms of Cox, he and we are too obsessed with him launching from the front position. With his height and the umpires now allowing hands in the back, he'd have a field day from behind.

No, it’s not unreadable.

It could do with some tweaking of the sentence structures and shortening of the paragraphs. It is a bit of a chore to read through it and given the amount of work you clearly put into it, going a little further is warranted.

Collingwood have responded after a poor performance against the Dockers, by winning every quarter on offer against Melbourne to prevail by 41 points. The Magpies got out of the blocks fairly quickly without kicking accurately in the opening term, before converting crucial goals to keep the lead intact in the second term. After half time, the Woods would not miss any more goals, while the Demons frittered away most of their opportunities and were ultimately outplayed when goals were needed to be converted.

Collingwood did not dominate the statistical sheets in a manner they normally would in other matches. The Pies only won a handful of categories, such as kicks +3 (227 - 224), uncontested possessions +7 (255 - 248), hit-outs +3 (37 - 34), tackles +16 (70 - 54), marks +10 (99 - 89), uncontested marks +6 (85 - 79), contested marks +4 (14 - 10), marks inside 50 +2 (13 - 11), and intercept possessions +2 (82 - 80).

Melbourne had gains in disposals +10 (418 - 408), handballs +13 (194 - 181), clearances +17 (46 - 29), centre clearances +10 (16 - 6), stoppage clearances +7 (30 - 23), contested possessions +27 (170 - 143), inside 50's +2 (58 - 56), and Tackles Inside 50 +4 (13 - 9).

Adam Treloar - 34 disposals @ 59%, 608 metres gained, 10 contested possessions, 24 uncontested possessions, 18 kicks, 16 handballs, 2 marks, 6 tackles, 6 score involvements, 5 clearances, 5 stoppage clearances, 5 Inside 50's & 1 goal was at his prolific best, despite torching the ball at times.

Tom Phillips - 27 disposals @ 67%, 460 metres gained, 13 contested possessions, 14 uncontested possessions, 5 intercept possessions, 18 kicks, 9 handballs, 3 marks, 6 score involvements, 5 clearances, 4 stoppage clearances, 4 Inside 50's & 5 Rebound 50's caught my eye with his defensive work from stoppages in defence.

Steele Sidebottom - 27 disposals @ 74%, 554 metres gained, 10 contested possessions, 17 uncontested possessions, 7 intercept possessions, 17 kicks, 10 handballs, 4 marks, 6 tackles, 3 score involvements, 4 clearances, 4 stoppage clearances, 2 Rebound 50's & 1 goal played his finest game of the season.

Scott Pendlebury - 24 disposals @ 62%, 337 metres gained, 3 contested possessions, 21 uncontested possessions, 2 intercept possessions, 10 kicks, 14 handballs, 6 marks, 4 tackles, 4 score involvements, 2 Inside 50's & 2 Rebound 50's was off the boil in an uncharacteristic game from the skipper.

Brayden Sier - 23 disposals @ 65%, 336 metres gained, 14 contested possessions, 9 uncontested possessions, 3 intercept possessions, 9 kicks, 14 handballs, 2 marks, 9 tackles, 3 Tackles Inside 50, 3 score involvements, 4 clearances, 2 centre clearances, 2 stoppage clearances & 7 Inside 50's had an impact with his disposals and tackling numbers in a sound return to AFL footy.

Chris Mayne - 20 disposals @ 75%, 251 metres gained, 4 contested possessions, 16 uncontested possessions, 4 intercept possessions, 13 kicks, 7 handballs, 6 marks, 4 tackles, 2 clearances & 2 stoppage clearances played a solid game without dominating.

Brodie Grundy - 14 disposals @ 71%, 146 metres gained, 8 contested possessions, 6 uncontested possessions, 4 intercept possessions, 8 kicks, 6 handballs, 30 hit-outs, 6 marks, 3 tackles, 5 score involvements, 4 clearances, 2 centre clearances, 2 stoppage clearances & 1 goal gets an honourable mention for competing against Max Gawn with a neck complaint. Enjoy your recovery during the bye, Brodie!

Jeremy Howe - 22 disposals @ 77%, 376 metres gained, 5 contested possessions, 17 uncontested possessions, 6 intercept possessions, 13 kicks, 9 handballs, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 2 score involvements & 9 Rebound 50's provided adequate transition from defence.

James Aish - 21 disposals @ 81%, 425 metres gained, 5 contested possessions, 16 uncontested possessions, 6 intercept possessions, 11 kicks, 10 handballs, 7 marks, 2 Contested Marks, 2 tackles, 3 score involvements, 2 Inside 50's & 5 Rebound 50's was neat with his ball use and decision-making.

Jack Crisp - 19 disposals @ 90%, 231 metres gained, 7 contested possessions, 12 uncontested possessions, 6 intercept possessions, 8 kicks, 11 handballs, 3 marks, 3 tackles, 3 score involvements & 3 Rebound 50's had a very poor first half, before responding with a respectable second half.

Brayden Maynard - 18 disposals @ 94%, 367 metres gained, 5 contested possessions, 13 uncontested possessions, 6 intercept possessions, 11 kicks, 7 handballs, 5 marks, 4 tackles, 2 Inside 50's & 6 Rebound 50's continued his excellent form and ball use from defence.

Jordan Roughead - 14 disposals @ 86%, 252 metres gained, 5 contested possessions, 9 uncontested possessions, 9 intercept possessions, 9 kicks, 5 handballs, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 3 score involvements, 2 Inside 50's & 4 Rebound 50's is proving to be a stable and steady influence in defence.

Levi Greenwood (13 disposals @ 77%, 125 metres gained, 3 contested possessions, 10 uncontested possessions, 4 intercept possessions, 7 kicks, 6 handballs, 4 marks & 4 tackles is flourishing in his role away from the midfield by closing down small forwards at every opportunity.

Darcy Moore - 13 disposals @ 92%, 256 metres gained, 7 contested possessions, 6 uncontested possessions, 9 intercept possessions, 7 kicks, 6 handballs, 5 marks, 3 Contested Marks, 3 score involvements, 2 Inside 50's & 3 Rebound 50's provided some dare which he was not able to do the previous game that he played. Liked that he wanted to take the game on when it was warranted.

Brody Mihocek - 20 disposals @ 65%, 415 metres gained, 12 contested possessions, 8 uncontested possessions, 3 intercept possessions, 11 kicks, 9 handballs, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 2 goal assists, 6 score involvements, 6 Inside 50's, 2 Rebound 50's & 1 goal worked extremely hard for his possessions, particularly in-tight and in-close from the contest.

Jaidyn Stephenson - 19 disposals @ 47%, 423 metres gained, 7 contested possessions, 12 uncontested possessions, 2 intercept possessions, 16 kicks, 3 handballs, 9 marks, 2 Contested Marks, 6 Marks Inside 50, 3 tackles, 2 Tackles Inside 50, 2 goal assists, 11 score involvements, 3 Inside 50's, 2 Rebound 50's & 3 goals was everywhere without converting necessarily well.

Will Hoskin-Elliott - 19 disposals @ 79%, 281 metres gained, 2 contested possessions, 17 uncontested possessions, 2 intercept possessions, 13 kicks, 6 handballs, 12 marks, 4 Marks Inside 50, 7 score involvements, 2 Inside 50's & 3 goals) played his best game of the 2019 season to date.

Callum Brown - 14 disposals @ 79%, 155 metres gained, 4 contested possessions, 10 uncontested possessions, 2 intercept possessions, 4 kicks, 10 handballs, 7 tackles, 4 score involvements & 3 Inside 50 applied plenty of forward-half tackling and pressure to remain relevant.

Jordan De Goey - 13 disposals @ 77%, 379 metres gained, 5 contested possessions, 8 uncontested possessions, 8 kicks, 5 handballs, 7 score involvements, 6 Inside 50's & 3 goals played a very nimble game with positioning and footy-smarts on display for all to see.

Mason Cox - 10 disposals @ 60%, 173 metres gained, 7 contested possessions, 3 uncontested possessions, 6 kicks, 4 handballs, 7 hit-outs, 5 marks, 4 Contested Marks, 2 Marks Inside 50, 3 tackles, 2 score involvements & 1 goal provided a marking option all day in his first game since Anzac Day against the Bombers.

Collingwood's next game after the bye will be against the Western Bulldogs on June 23 at Marvel Stadium. Winning the contested ball and centre clearances against the Bulldogs will be paramount and imperative in ensuring that the forwards have easier and quicker access to the footy. Address those two deficiencies, and victory shall be secured.

Like this for instance. I've just given it a quick edit. First couple of paragraphs I segregated out the Collingwood and the Dees and removed a lot of the "by" type inclusions. Beyond that, gave each player a discrete paragraph. It's slightly longer but much easier to read.

I think a lot of that still comes from the delivery and/or the timing of his leads. He still has to stop and prop a lot.

VickyPark does not have any objections to how I summarise matches. At least 10 people or so like what I post on Facebook, so that's enough for me.

I think you'll find the ADHD epidemic escalated well before the NDIS came to be.
Yep.
Without any scientific backup, because I’m not sure anyone has done the study, I blame most of the issues that occur with young children on McDonalds.
Well drilled down it’s not just them, but the amount of preservatives in our food chain today.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that these illnesses coincided with the explosion in fast food and the extension of shelf life for packaged/frozen foods.
Now we are into the third generation of people who are exposed to these preservatives and I think each generation is passing on defects to the next which make it more likely that a defect will surface.
Tin hat stuff maybe, but you’ve got to wonder.

It's just some constructive feedback to make it easier for us to read.
Personally I don't read it as it's too labour intensive for me.
jackcass made some good suggestions worth considering IMO.

Not enough love here for Roughy.
Get your act together posters.
He has been immense and deserves more love.
Not showy enough. Needs to dye his hair blonde and wear a headband before I can start giving love.

I think everyone appreciates your post, just trying to tweak for readability.
You have obviously gone to a lot of effort.:thumbsu:

If holds his ground more in a marking contest , he will be unbeatable.

Well, just keep in mind that if 10 people or so is ever no longer enough for you, you can take on board some of this constructive advice and shoot for 11+. In the meantime, the effort is appreciated.

No, it’s not unreadable.

I’d suggest at the least putting each player on a separate line and bolding the players name to help readability

I’m a Graphic Designer with 28 years experience letting you know that if people complain about readability there is definitely a problem

+1 for scrolling straight past Swooper’s wall of text in these threads due to unreadability.

I tend to get about two paragraphs in and then the collection of stats and figures in the posted format make it difficult to maintain a train of thought. Information overload.

The suggested edits above are much more readable and structured but Swooper can make his posts in whatever format he likes, it’s his prerogative.

Either way, I’m sure plenty derive plenty of value from his posting so entirely up to him.

LOL, from a team who's forward strategy is built around seagulls I guess they'd know.
I don’t know Jackass, there might be some truth in that. Doesn’t seagull fly in, S#$T on you, steal the goodies (ball) and then fly away? Watch his sprint (giving at least a 15 metre headstart), he swooped in, s@#t on his opponent, plucked the goodies out of the air and then just flew away. Gees I wish someone would put that whole play on a loop, I could watch it for hours and still burst out laughing every time.

5 yr old kids nowadays arent like we were (im gen Y, so im talking me and olders), half of them have never heard the word "no" unless its come out of their own mouths, theyve rarely had any boundaries or instilled in them from the time they can walk when [mum/dad/grandma/insert other 'adult' here] says sit down and do as your told means exactly that and if you knew what was good for you youd bloody do it, a mindboggling bunch of them are even asked for THEIR permission by their parents to do something and/or given choices like theyre adults themselves, and practically all of them (** gross generalisation but i think an accurate one) have developed no way of coping when they dont get what they want or arent the centre of attention so they chuck a tantrum the likes of something youd see in a Chucky movie.

Id say 10 is an appropriate age, theyve generally had a few years of school to teach them how to behave in a socially acceptable manner
Sorry to have to tell you this, but, you said it just like I would ( apart from a few expletives that I may have added) and I’m considered to be a “Grumpy old man”.

Not everybody scrolls past, unless you and your mate nahnah have a vendetta against everything that I create in each division.

I don’t use the exact words for every statistic in the book. I took advice to use paragraphs a couple of years ago to forge each division into their own category, and I always put the player statistics in brackets.

Nope guess you aren’t interested in constructive criticism.

Notes:
- Fewest players Collingwood has rotated through the midfield during one of the 9 analysed games this season. This also equals the fewest players utilised by any AFL club in analysed games this season (West Coast also only used 7 in Rd 9). In 4 other games you've only used 8 players. Whilst this is low by AFL standards (most rotate 10-11 per game, in some cases as many as 14-15), it works well for Collingwood and interestingly also West Coast, whilst Geelong are also moving more towards this strategy. Clarkson (and those who served their apprenticeship under him - Beveridge, Hardwick etc) favour rotating most of the forward half through the midfield group, so that is why the trend is towards clubs having more rotations. As most strategies are copied, a few more premierships from either Collingwood or West Coast and Geelong to a lesser extent, will likely swing things back to small midfield groups with more forward specialists.
- Most inside starts for Phillips in an analysed game and also his first inside start in analysed games since Rd 1 (when he had 3).
