Has there been any information released as to the play across platforms? i.e If I can play on my PS4 against someone online on their Xbox?

As far as I am aware, there hasn't been. That is not to say there won't be in the future. Crossplay has been spoken about for a while for multiple games but IIRC, Sony hasn't been willing to come to the party.

We bought two extra controllers just for this. Keen as a bean.
Online is where it will be at as long as they can balance skill levels. 8 max Cups. Local is fun but 4 player split screen can be annoying.

Apparently they’re going to have skill based matchmaking so that should all be good. I’m super excited for this remake.
The racing mechanics were amazingly fun, and the weapons were intelligent and useful, although in mutliplayer some of them are going to be a little OP I think, especially that silver orb that hits everyone in front of you, or the clock or masks.
The weapons in this were so good.
I can't wait to actually relive my childhood. It's in my all time favourite games.

I don't think they can stuff it up as long as they keep the mechanics and weapons the same. Everything else is just visual, which can be improved.
Yeah. It came out when I was 11, spent hours and hours on it and clocked it several times.
