Sri Lanka started choking hard around the 15th over and just drifted after Perera was dismissed. The only way they were ever going to win this was if the rain intervened, IMO and the negativity here when Sri Lanka hadn't yet passed 100 was really jarring

Going in with no frontline spinner was definitely a mistake but an ugly win is better than a loss

Maybe, but Kusal Perera is really the driver of their opening partnership anyway. Karunaratne was mostly matching him through a lot of things going his way rather than through real aggression. Once Perera was out, Thirimanne came in and he is not a rapid batsman by any stretch. That was when they slowed down.

Yeah I guess it shows the value of having a smith/kohli/root/wiliamson in these spots they just keep it ticking over while not risking their wicket.
