Do you have evidence to the contrary?

(ping kaiserchief13 here's some more speculation for you lol)
Call it speculation if you want but I say something's not sitting right with all of this....

1. Kids supposedly self reports only after a team mate tells him he should.
2. Is reported to AFL weeks ago, but he's still able to play for (was it 3 weeks?) until a decision is made....it takes 3 weeks to make a decision on something that is against the rules?
3. AFL enters into 'discussions' with the club of said player as to what a suitable punishment is.....what?!?!?!?! Player just happens to be back in time for the second week of finals!

Call me crazy, but where there is smoke, there is usually fire!

Of course you do! Thanks for proving my point!

I don’t understand how going from saying Pies supporters wonder why they’re hated to me saying I embrace it proves your point, if anything, it directly goes against your point, but, I’m happy for you. Good point making.

Other than Dean Wallace (who missed 14 games), Stephenson has copped the biggest gambling punishment in AFL history, yet people are screaming for more or claiming Pies conspiracy. Other players have copped mere fines for betting on the AFL.

No, what he did was against AFL rules.

Unless you have an actual accusation to make, perhaps don't go on a public forum alleging crimes?

He admitted it. It's against AFL rules because it is illegal. Read the Crimes Ammendment 2013 Victoria (Integrity in Sport) All states have similar legislation

Here's an excerpt:- conduct that corrupts or would corrupt a betting outcome of an event or an event contingency means conduct that— (a) affects or, if engaged in, would or would be likely to affect the outcome of any type of betting on the event or event contingency;

Your interpretation and the facts don't seem a match.

If it was criminal activity, the police would already be involved. It's not like this is hidden from view - everyone with access to the web or a newspaper in the AFL community knows about it and it's dominated headlines for days.

But keep trying.

I’m sure a lot of taxpayer dollars were spent on these doco’s, but if the AFL insists on hitting people over the head with them, it could backfire badly. I’m a little surprised at the response to the Hawthorn 37 thing tomorrow night, but it is what it is.

What do we think about the culture at Collingwood guys? Is it an issue?
I'll get back to you with concerns about culture when my club institutes a systematic taking of performance enhancing drugs or injecting healthy fooballers with dubious chemicals and supplements.

This is some silly low level bets made by an individual player when socialising with his mates. He has copped his penalty for it.
As for bets - Dean Wallis says hi - he got suspended for 14 weeks and payed a $7500 fine for betting on AFL when he was an assistant coach at Essendon.
The same year (2011) Heath Shaw got pinged for a $10 bet and Maxwell got done for his family laying their own bets.
Crisp got done for betting at Brisbane before joining the Pies.
There are several other individual players in many clubs with gambling problems. Just as there are players with depression and mental health issues and even some domestic violence, alcohol problems and recreational drug problems amongst players across the competition.
These are actions perpetrated by individuals outside the club, not authorized encouraged or condoned by the club.
Nothing to do with culture.

The article states Stephenson made a comment to Howe about a teammate costing him his multi, which shows he's actively thinking about his bets while playing and while you can't really prove it, there's every chance he could have made a decision on the field with the intent on seeing his bets win...especially the bets on himself which he has direct and full control over.

Also, he only reported it because Howe knew of the bets...it's very likely that he would have kept betting on Collingwood games had he not let it slip.
And as you cant' really prove it...there's every chance..and it's very likely...he could have..would have...
You know f*** all and are overegging your comments because it is a Collingwood player and you barrack for Carlton.
If you can't really prove it you shouldn't make assumptions and exaggerations.
Stephenson was stupid and has copped his whack.

Bit stiff, should've smashed up jewelry shop or two, rip off cancer sufferers or turn up to court in a hire a bimbo escorted limo.

A novice gambler would not be betting on several leg multis. No newbie to gambling is doing that. Lol. Thats just ridiculous. Combining goals kicked, possessions by a certain player among other things in his multi leg, yeah sounds like someone who just learnt how to bet. Dont be foolish. And if he had no clue of what he was doing, he wouldnt have said to Howe after the team song, "You cost me my multi." Means he was acutely aware of what cost him the win at the time.

The details that emerged after his presser shows that he hasnt been entirely upfront. He's no doughy eyed innocent kid.
???

The sports books advertise the feck out of ‘multis’ because they make plenty of coin from them from mug punters.

They even go to the effort of making it as easy as possible for mug punters to place ‘same game multis’.

It is literally just a couple of clicks and then suckers fall for the promise of a large return...although not realising that if each individual leg is poorly priced (usually the case for exotics) the bookie is actually taking out 15-20% of the real value on 3-4 leg multis!

Anybody thinking it is hard to place a ‘multi’ has no fecking idea.

I am supportive of Stepho copping his fair whack (people also need to remember that he is still on his first contract, so missing the 10 match payments is bloody huge for him...effectively lost ~50K in match payments on top of the $20K fine) that is a big whack.

If there was any suggestion he was trying to actual fix a result, he would be being investigated further by the authorities...but no evidence of that.

A 20yr old putting some multi bets on is almost normalised these days, so Stepho being stupid enough to put a few of his own multies on really isn’t that hard to believe.

20 year old kids do dumb things despite being told not to do them all the time.

It is soft as butter. They will never stop league employees betting on football if this is their response.
Do you remember when a young Carlton recruit was handcuffed to a senior player and forced to drink too much alcohol Chief?

The kid was educated, why did he allow it to happen?

Young kids do stupid things sometimes.

Stupid (not overly bright) kid gets more weeks than the thug acts of a number of players over the years?? Meanwhile, he's grown up on the AFL endorsing gambling all the way and now cops a big whack for being influenced by it - is all just askew IMHO

I think the AFL would have had to thoroughly check everything, go back to the betting accounts used, question the "friend", look at bank accounts to verify that the amounts stated were in fact true, satisfy themselves that bookies weren't involved, that there was no intimidation or undue influence, and much more.
If there was the possibility of intimidation and undue influence then he should have been stood down immediately. Both for his sake and the integrity of the game.

Dunno why the league was worried about a court challenge by Collingwood about the seagull missing finals. They would have never over ruled. An end of year penalty was never manifestly excessive.

How many of them bet on their own games or on themselves?
