Fin Maginness had 13 touches playing for VicMetro in their win. Noah Anderson probably BOG with 27.

Harrison Pepper was good, had 20 disp (17 kicks, 3 handballs) 1 goal, 7 marks, 5 tackles for Gippsland Power in their big win over Oakleigh

can't see Downie's stats this week

Tarryn Thomas would have gone top 5 in the draft without Academies. Will be a star. Clubs were only given Academies after everyone had a gut full of the Sydney leg ups, endorsed by the AFL.

There are myriad of pathways into the AFL system. The Academies are a joke in their current format. The potential for a situation, where a club hits a vein solid gold talent is real. Another club could continue for 10 years and not find a player through no fault of their own. Every player being in the draft alleviates this outcome. It also allows, in theory, for the talent to be more evenly dispersed.

COLA was supposed to help the mid-tier players stay at the club by assisting them with living expenses. That system was abused.

Free Agency was also 'supposed' to be about helping mid tier player find more opportunities (including financially). Matt Suckling being a good example. In reality free agency was always going to be used by clubs to lure star players with promises of cash, success, business or media opportunities.

IMO the draft and trading system of yesteryear was the most 'equitable' model. Add future picks to this model?

All clubs should be up in arms. The whole point should be to help those that need it but how do you quanitfy disadvantage?

I agree with change but , isn’t it too late now ? Clubs that have been advantaged by it already struck pay dirt. So either do away with academies completely and have a pure unadulterated draft or leave it as is and see how bad it can get.

We were beneficiaries of the old zone system. Now that we may be beneficiaries of another nga zone , time to change the rules. This is why it is corrupt.

Just look at how the media react when a player looks like they want to go to Hawthorn. They say club x shouldn’t trade them that player. Or Hawthorn should be paying this for that player. Or club x is offering 1.4 million over 5 years. So that when it comes out that that player is considering Hawthorn they try to throw a spanner in the works by nominating basket case club a and b as 1.4mil a season.

Does it sound familiar to the weekends articles ?

He could physically manhandle half our list by the looks of it. Can the kid handle a footy with skill though!
And this other young guy looks a lot more developed too. I hope they both have a bit of mongrel in them too
They look like they do. Here's hoping. Nearly draft them as enforcers and hard men despite skills. We're definitely missing that at the moment. If they can play, even better!

I am hoping we draft Salele Feagaimalii if only to see the variety of misspellings of his surname. I suspect even Bigfooty posters will generally get the correct spelling of his Christian name.

Would love to be proven wrong, but can’t see it.
of course you can't see it, you've made a decision based on 10 games for one bloke and 15 for the other

Clarko has always said 50, and the guys they persist with to 50 they see enough to do so

the guys they don't, well they don't make it to 50 games

but this is the club who see them all week at training, watch the footage of their games with them, know what they were being asked to do and measured against and see a lot more than we do from the pretty poor coverage on TV/ we do from going to the game

My point is that you've written off two blokes based on a very small sample and are now writing off anyone else from Ireland based on that as well.

There are enough Irish blokes that have made decent AFL careers for it to be something to continue looking at.

It's another pathway for talent, requires a different investment to be fair, but that is part of why the club would be looking at it.

Doesn't require them to use the same resources.

The other fun thing I've seen thrown around is they'd be bottom 6 in a premiership team, like that's a bad thing.

You still need to have a bottom 6 in a premiership team, and being good enough to be one of those on a strong list still makes you a reasonable footballer. Better than most of the guys running around in VFL etc

Not every young player will make it, not every kid we are playing now will be a star, but given how the club has been going about bringing in top end talent, we need as many of these kinds of moves to pay off if for no other reason than to make sure we have enough depth in the list to compete

Thank * the club don’t listen to the naysayers on social media. We’d never take a punt on anything for fear of failure....and we’d become the new St Kilda.

I hope not, the Irish experiment has not worked for us.
That's kinda like saying the last two times we've made top four we haven't won anything, so lets stop trying to make the top four. :)

Even the law of averages says it's worth a shot. They're basically a free hit, it's not like it's instead of drafting blokes. Right now the Irish experiment is paying betters divs than our NGA has so far.

Don't understand why anyone would be against taking the chance.

And besides, it gives ****wit supporters at least 2x additional players to complain about - not that the Illuminegativity need more reasons to complain...

Rejoice ****wits, it's complaining Christmas come early!
