We get to say that the best player ever played for Adelaide (I don't care if he was old, broken and tainted), so that deal is automatically better than one decent year if Gibbs.
I wouldn't call Carey that. I would call him an adulterer and domestic abuser though.

An adulterer..... ok Israel.
He was the best player the game has seen, the gamble was a smart one.
This was the crux of my previous points regarding Gibbs - if he has an off field issue that’s affecting him (addiction or whatever) it’s got going to change anything by alternating him between SANFL and AFL. Even if they put him in SANFL for the rest of his career, this isn’t going to change any off field dramas!

Not when the alternative was Pavlich.
We were trying to make up for mods trade I think at the time. Crowds were a bit dirty ... Should have grabbed pav if we could. At least we got d jarmen though SA superstar who came home and got us a flag or two

Probably would have had a few extra with pav as well. Given Craig's crowbots only weakness was our forward line.

Maybe. But Pavlich would have offered and delivered more not only in the present but for many years after too.
Ayres wanted Carey and placed that over what was best for the AFC.

Gibbs form at the moment I liken it to Sloane when he was given the hard tag back in 2017. Sloane was getting low possession counts and everyone could see he wasn’t handling it very well.
Now I don’t think Gibbs is being tagged, but something is making his form dip to the point any fan can see. The key word here is “form dip”, as last year he was performing admirably when most midfielders were crumbling around him (Sloane, Crouch bros). Gibbs was a very good player for us last year.
2 general reasons:
- off-field dramas (in which case he should be getting some time off to set his mind straight)
- on-field dramas.
Things I think could be affecting him on-field:
- his role/position is not suiting him
- feeling extra heat from players in the reserves, where this has not been a major issue in the past at Carlton with their poor depth and us last year with our high injury count
- other?

It really was a mistake. I remember Carey had all sorts of off field problems that don't need listing. Mentally cooked and physically when we got him. Pav was a gun.

Isn't the carlton 2018 2nd rounder we got in the deal the same one traded to GWS for their 2nd and the 2019 carlton 2nd?. So we have got hamill and whoever we pick with the carlton 2nd this year + gibbs for 2 x 1st rounders. If we nail that pick then it won't have ended up too bad
We gave up way too much. He was leaving North, they weren’t in a position to demand such high currency.

We did give a little too much yeah, but again given what we saw in 05/06, an 80% Carey would have been enough
