Discussion Random Chat Megathread Mk II

Kawhi to LAC, as well as Paul George.
I’m still in shock over PG to the Clippers. Didn’t see it coming at all, so much for unfinished business. Rumours of Russ and Steven Adams out too, not sur did I’ll be able to handle it

Anyone got that timeline chart with all the teams jumper manufacturers throughout the years? I've seen it posted a few times around here so surely someone has it on them.

This is amazing.

Btw, if you're curious on pre-1998 apparel sponsors for all clubs, this is what I could find... based off tags on guernseys, warm-up jackets, but mostly boots as prior to the infamous Kouta deal, players weren't allowed to wear boots that were a different brand to the club's apparel sponsor. I only went as far back as 1990 (AFL era) as it got a bit murky before that with AFL Photos often having inaccurate dates. If you created that spreadsheet, feel free to add this, maybe as a secondary version of the graphic.

Adelaide: Adidas (1991–97)
Brisbane: Puma (1990; 1996–97), Diadora (1991–93), Lotto (1994–95)
Carlton: Adidas (1990–97)
Collingwood: Puma (1990–97)
Essendon: Adidas (1990–94), Reebok (1995–97)
Fitzroy: none (1990–91), Puma (1992–93), Nike (1994–95), Asics (1996)
Fremantle: Nike (1995–97)
Geelong: Adidas (1990–97)
Hawthorn: Puma (1990–97)
Melbourne: Adidas (1990–91), none (1992–94), Nike (1995–97)
North Melbourne: Adidas (1990–91), Diadora (1992), Nike (1993–97)
Port Adelaide: Nike (1997)
Richmond: Puma (1990–91), Diadora (1992–94), Lotto (1995–97)
St Kilda: Adidas (1990–91), Puma (1992–97)
Sydney: none (1990–93), Adidas (1994–95), Puma (1996–97)
West Coast: Puma (1990–97)
W Bulldogs: Adidas (1990–91), Diadora (1992–95), XBlades (1996), Canterbury (1997)

No 'random' manufacturers here in that we all saw them in some other guise post-'97, but it is interesting how Adidas had a stranglehold on the market in the early 90s (eight clubs in 1991), Diadora dipped their toes in the water as well (four clubs in 1992), while one-year deals were, unsurprisingly, basically non-existent. Also with Fitzroy in financial trouble around 1990 and Sydney sucking terribly on the field around the same time, it's no wonder they couldn't secure apparel deals.

Ahh thats excellent, thanks for that! Yeah I made the spreadsheet three or so years ago. Obviously only went as far back as when logos appeared on the jumpers, but I reckon I’ll add that info into it as well, maybe with a delineation to show when the jumper logos started.

I’ve also got a second page which lists the years by manufacturer. I’ll get an image of that one too in case anybody is interested.

I think it was borne out of my curiosity towards Collingwood's Puma deal (I remember my old 'barcode' jumper having a Puma jock tag) and how long it ran for prior to Adidas coming on board.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the Crows had Puma making their stuff in 1996

I believe Puma had a contract to make retail guernseys for pretty much every team around 1996, which is why you'll see a jumper here and there with a Puma jock tag on it even though they weren't manufactured by them.

If the boots weren't a giveaway, it's easy enough to tell that the Crows were manufactured by Adidas in 1996 if you look at the three stripes on the jacket and tracksuit in this image.

Interesting find, the GFC is back at Geelong. The club had actively distanced itself from the GFC logo, banning anyone affiliated with the club (including the cheer squad) from wearing it when the new logo came in around 2008. That ban was actively in place until this week it seems.

is this a Geelong cap or a global financial crisis cap? I'm not sure. :D

Are those the same ones on the top of r/afl?

TBH the adelaide carlton and saints ones aren't bad but the rest.......yeah
I’m considering moving from on here over to reddit, over there you don’t seem to need to put any effort at all into your designs to get all the plaudits. Just put stretched logos on a yellow images template and you’ll be drowning in upvotes!
