I’m sure there are plenty of genuinely catchy tunes that come and go in my mind, but Let it Happen and pretty much any of the hits off Gang of Youths’ last album would be up there for mine.

Gang of Youths and Courtney Barnett have had a few good singles, agreed. I can definitely see Somebody That I Used to Know and Let it Happen getting the consensus plaudits.

I like The Beths, but they are Kiwi, so can't be considered.

Also fond of Vanessa Amorosi's Mr Mysterious. Vance Joy's Riptide was also well-liked for a song of that type. Both went top 10 in the charts.

Underrated (unheard of?) band of the 2010s is Jinja Safari. Toothless Grin was probably their best known song but lots of catchy pop tunes on all four of their albums.

Let's give some kudos to Tame Impala, Feels Like I Only Go backwards has nearly 100 million views and has aged really well. One of the best singles of all time, not just from an Australian band.

To me, Tame are a nice band, especially when jammy and druggy (e.g. Desire Be, Desire Go, New Person, Same Old Mistakes, etc.), but Let It Happen is their great moment. The shorter, more overtly derivative singles are only mildly diverting to me. I think Elephant is a wee bit better than FLWOGB.

It was close, like top 20 for me, just lacks a little remarkability. It has already been mentioned in this thread. The only better Aussie ARIA top 10 hits this decade for mine were Somebody that I Used to Know, Frefallin & Chameleon (shout out to a few others like Bayini, Mr. Mysterious, Who's that girl, I Love It, In My Blood, etc.).

I think for any Aussie artists to come from nowhere and have internationally recognised tune means a songs got enough about it to say it has got something remarkable about it.

I'd have Goyte #1 for those very reasons just stated above alone.

It certainly deserves consideration, although can't be the only metric. For instance, Iggy Azalea in 2014 alone had 3 singles which went 7x, 4x & 6x platinum in the US. Doesn't make them good.

Indeed, but those sales are driven by a style/genre.

I think Riptide is just a good song that can appeal to a wider cross section of people.
