IIRC even while 3peating and in 2004 we didn't get many Friday night games... maybe none.Putting my future cap on I wonder after winning the flag this season how may free to air games we will get in Melbourne next season and how many Friday night games..........always a good way to get the kids following us when they see how fab we are and such great colors as well.
Yep. Pretty sure our only one was in 2003 where we lost to Collingwood in the qualifying final on the saturday then played a semi final against the crows at the gabba on the friday night.IIRC even while 3peating and in 2004 we didn't get many Friday night games... maybe none.

There were plenty of complaints. There always is. There always has been. There always will be.Hudson, Quartermain, Lane, Walls...I don't recall ever having any complaints about the commentary back then. How did it get so bad?

Plenty of complaints about Quartermain (dull), and some about Lane (felt he was too pro-Carlton). In retrospect though...
Thats the one! That was the one where Voss came off his bike around quarter time when it wasn't even clear he was going to play, and we ended up flogging them, right? I was there for that one. Good night.
I remember that - no live FTA, so staying up past midnight to watch the game. Not to mention having the result spoiled by SportsCentre "newsflashes" just before the coverage started.
Plenty about Walls, too. The main difference between then and now is social media is much more prevalent so complaints are easier to come by.Plenty of complaints about Quartermain (dull), and some about Lane (felt he was too pro-Carlton). In retrospect though...
Not that I recall, but it was a lot easier to adjudicate when the average contest was only a couple of players and often they were traipsing through a paddock's worth of space as opposed to 8 to 20 players gathered around a ball.Did people spend as much time on the umpiring back then as well or is that also part of the 'evolution'?

Yes, well worth a listen. Very enlighteningThere's an 11-minute discussion of the Lions and some fascinating Champion Data stats in the latest RSN By The Numbers podcast. Highly recommended listening from 7:00 in.
