TASMANIAN DEBILS!!!
The problem with the Suns is that Queenslanders dont have the brain cells to support a second state team, no matter what the sport is

Yeah that lifestyle of beaches, long sunny days, fishing, partying, tourism, boats, holiday resorts is not conducive to the growth of a strange footy code born in a coolish southern State!

Not convinced that would make much difference to the revolving door of players going home. What prodigious junior talent would want to realise his afl dreams playing his career out on the GC , whatever way you look at it , it fails to add up

The problem has never been draft picks for the Suns. Its been their slim list concessions when compared to the Giant's. They were required to reduce their list by 8 players and $1 mil of additional salary cap in the space of 4 seasons. This meant trading talent on the cheap and being left with a tight cap making the retention of Prestia/O'Meara/Lynch near impossible, even if they wanted to stay, as they were paying average players above average salaries just to meet the minimum cap spending. Whereas the Giants list concessions will end this season, 8 years after their inception and they had the bonus $1 mil for an extra season meaning they could afford to forward contracts for players like Ward/Shaw/Davis and still retain the younger players like Cameron/Coniglio/Kelly etc. Draft concessions only work if they're matched by list concessions, otherwise gifting the Suns picks will only result in the same player exodus that the Lion's faced. Another option would be for the AFL to adjust to the minimum cap spending to allow more flexibility for clubs (which would probably be opposed by the AFLPA, though if they get past their inflated ego's they'll realise a competitive team on the Gold Coast will strengthen the next media deal and increase their pay because right now its a loss for broadcasters to televise the Suns). Leave the drafts alone and give the Suns an additional squad size, a matching salary cap boost and first access to DFAs. They can choose to sign some mature heads or they could choose to take advantage of the salary increase and try to lure a big fish. Either way its more sustainable for their list than just gifting them Pick 1 or 19.
Lynch signed for less money than what GC offered him according to reports at the time

They should give the suns another $2 million in the salary cap, and let the free agent system work itself out

Might help some However it wallpapers over inherent cultural problems that don’t lend itself to young players seeing a long term career at the club . I don’t think it’s $$$ that will persuade Rankine and luscious decision in 12m time

If Ellis goes.Wonder if we should go after Gibbs.Same type of player but Gibbs is a better kick.(only on a reduced contract)

What would be hilarious is if he went back to the Blues after all that.

Saints, Hawks or Druggies will likely go for him.

No way , we’ve got naish and turner coming on , we don’t need a list clogger to stand in their way
Our delivery into f50 is appalling. While granted Naish & Turner are fine young talent.Gibbs knows where too run to etc.
Naish & Turners time will come.

Soldo undersized?

Hes 204cm and 106kgs
Meanwhile the shorter and lighter Nankervis is seemingly fine. The more I'm seeing of Chol at AFL level the more comfortable I am with him being the back up with CCJ the longer term number 1 and Nankervis to be an eventual replacement for Jack as a deep forward.

'I will become a 6000-pound gorilla on this': Suns to ask for No.1 pick
Pretty obvious what Gold Coast are trying to do, the clear top 2 picks this year are best mates, so if they are able to land both of them then it will help keep them up there together.
To be honest I'd be fine with giving them the extra pick this year, it doesn't affect us much at all and they clearly need the help. They have much better infrastructure, executive and coach now. When they had all the picks before they were pretty half baked. Clubs have been going in dry with them on trades. They also need to give the first year players longer contracts, but I don't expect that can get through in time for the next draft.
