Expansion 41 AFL listed Queenslanders

Following on from the NSW AFL player thread, here's the one for Queensland for those interested. Interestingly, this is actually a reduction from the 50 I listed some 10 years ago back when the Western Bulldogs strangely had 12 Queenslanders! The list is under SoO rules (thus place of birth is completely irrelevant but rather their place of residence and/or junior club when aged from 11-17), so this can be used to pick a SoO team if you want.

Also, there's little chance such a large list is without some error or omission. I'll edit any errors pointed out accordingly (or alternatively argue the case). Anyway, here it is -

I know others would disagree but I would kill to see a NSW/ACT vs QLD vs SA round robin type competition where each state plays each other once. I think all three teams would be very evenly matched and all the games would be pretty high quality.

The smaller the population, the more often you have bad years or good years.

The expansion States putting 100+ players into the AFL player pool, thats a success any way you look at it & academies are a big part of that despite the squealing from certain established clubs,

Geelong's Wiley Buzza seems to belong on a list of Queensland players, along with Melbourne's Josh Wagner (as mentioned by another poster). Elliott Himmelberg only moved to Queensland in 2016, the year he was drafted, so really could only be a NSW(/ACT) player.

I don't believe Matt Eagles was originally from Queensland, and he only went up there a few years back. He did play on SA's Yorke Peninsula and junior football for Port Adelaide, so it appears that SA is his genuine State of Origin. You've included Alex Sexton, but he was at least 14 when he moved to Qld. from Victoria in 2008, so if following the SoO rules (covering ages 10-17) he belongs to Victoria. Even if he moved in January 2008 he was 14 years and 1 month old, giving him (at least) 4 years 1 month in Victoria and (at the most) 2 years 11 months in Queensland in the "eligible period".

I also have Jesse Joyce as a NSW/ACT player, though some will argue that he does belong to Queensland! It can be tricky with players who "border hopped" to play football in their younger days!

NSW/ACT would be at the same level as SA, with QLD a bit behind mostly due to lack of midfielders.

Thanks again, Daics at picking up the inevitable errors/ommissions. I've changed Himmelberg to NSW and deleted Eagles and Sexton accordingly, while adding Buzza and the other Watson.

With Joyce, yeah it's similar to Dayne Beams who actually grew up in Murwillumbah but attended school and played all his footy in Queensland (I'm not sure at what stage he ever actually moved to Qld). I listed Beams as a NSW player 10 years ago but got so many complaints I eventually changed him to Queensland. For now, I'll list both these for Qld - afterall they need them for the numbers more than NSW does!

Brad Scheer moved to Queensland (From WA) around Age 13 from memory, played state under 12s/13/14s (whatever the age group is that young...) is for WA. Probs still legitimately on this list as a Queenslander, but just FYI

Yes, given he moved at the age of 13 just qualifies him for Queensland whereas Sexton just missed out by moving at age 14.

Thank you, Forward Press. Actually I've got lists for Tasmania (enough for a full team and extras) and NT (not enough for a full team) almost ready. Not yet sure if I'll get the time to do SA and WA.

After watching last night's game I realised I had omitted Charlie's brother, Jarrod Cameron to the list, so he's now duly added, making 41 Queenslanders.

The AFL are pumping a lot for resources into junior footy up here and you can see the impact. Our junior club is right in the heart of Rugby League territory and yet there's a very healthy junior comp happening.

There are regular Auskick courses held at our local state school, whereas you'll never hear a peep from League. They are absolutely sitting on their hands, taking their base for granted while the AFL slips in to win hearts and minds.

The challenge will be to keep these kids playing right through their teens, so we can get more and more quality players nominating for the draft.

I think you had it right the first time! He would have only been about 11 1/2 years of age (DOB: 03-05-2000) when he moved to WA with his family at the end of 2011, so really should belong to WA.
