List Mgmt. 2019 Draft/Trade/FA Thread - Final Wrap

Talking about players coming is an interesting question, was watching th NBA jump program today and they were talking about OKC and how no one want’s to go to small market teams as there is not the ability to make big coin outside of game day like there is in big market teams. This is our situation all over IMO and it’s not ever going to change unless we make ourselves a big market team. The GC is the California of Australia and somehow we have to sell it that way to the players

It's even worst for us as at least OKC were able to trade in players without their consent to at least get competitive for a period through savvy management.

Hard pass on Gibbs. Apparently isn't getting a game because he isn't following team structures and is difficult to Coach. We don't want to be bringing senior players like that. We already have issues like that RE: Brodie. Don't need more of them.
He is a seriously good player at his best though.
A lot of class on the outside and a goal kicker, which is something Suns are lacking.

For mine he was our best player in his final season for us (2017).
He played inside when needed and won plenty of his own ball.

He's also young enough to still get a few good years out of him.

That being said, there are a lot of rumours circulating about where he is at mentally.
Not to mention the alleged gambling scandals.

On top of that, he moved to Adelaide for family reasons so I can't really see him moving across country again and leaving South Australia.

At his best he was a damn good player though, would be rapt to have him at the Suns for the right price (say a second rounder and a non-required player?) IF he was in a good head space & his body isn't breaking down & he wanted to leave.

A lot of IFs there!

He already in Adelaide system for two years and hardly impressive.

We need to pick.
Priority pick.. or
Mature traded in players?

Can’t have both can we
We need both that's all I know. Too many passengers and some of them seem to be treated with kid gloves. Time to trade some of these front runners away for better (assuming another club would want them). Sexton, Miller come to mind, maybe even Wright.

Jack Lukosius's kicking of the football is sublime

Did anyone else notice when Charlie Ballard was moved forward he didn't fly for marks or look comfortable at all when the ball came in yet when he is back he reads it so well and more often than not wins marking contests or intercepts comfortably. Was a very interesting situation how just putting him forward completely threw him and put him off balance

Club has to suck it up and ask for additional cap space and senior list spots from October. F**k pride, we need help now.

Spitballing say 5 extra spots next season and an extra $2.5mil?

And reduce by 1 list spot & cap space each year until we are back to 40 again. Similar to start up.

Say 3 x end of Rd1 picks that must be traded this year for mature players. AFL incentives of some kind to those players who make the move.

Complete revamp of the NEAFL. It’s not developing players to AFL standard. How I dunno? But it has to change.

Expand our academy zone. Maybe permanently or maybe just next 5 years until our list is competitive.

Got to do something. I really dunno what the answer is, or more importantly what incentives the AFL can grant us that the rest of the AFL clubs would be willing to accept.

But Dew is right, 1 x priority pick is not the answer. AFL need to suck it up and fix this.

If it helps to get us to a 50/50 win loss ratio next season, and we continue to improve each season thereafter, the rest should take care of itself.

Paul Roos was the same as a footballer
Started at CHF but always ran under the ball
I played on him one day and he must have jumped 20 times and was nowhere near it
Once he moved to CHB he was a superstar
Some players just have to face their own goals
Darcy Moore is a current example

Collins is a keeper - and there's not many of them around. Holman gives 100% every week unlike so many others. Joyce can go.
Joyce need to be delist like Holman and Collins and play in VFL/SANFL /WAFL for a year, I am sick of academy players good story and keep them in . Club bid players if they are good like Bowes, Blakey, Thomas in the first round.

Stands out like absolute Dogs Balls.

It is never as good as it seems and never as bad as it seems.

We are not as bad a club as the last 2 games, and we not as good a club as the first 2 wins against Freo and the Bulldogs. Somewhere in between.

The loss after loss looks bad, but if we pull out the win against the Saints (only 4 games ago!!!) then the discussion is different. Young team, running out of legs. Yes it is bad, but they have had a decent season. Strongly suspect if we win that game we are not as much of a rabble as we are now.

In fact, if we had strung out our 6 games decided by 5 points or less, and throw in the good comeback against the Eagles, we would be looked at differently now. And probably playing better.

Importantly, we have a spread of young players who should be getting bigger, stronger, better.
Bowes and Ainsworth are 3rd year players.
Powell and Ballard are 2nd year players.
The 3 top picks (+Jez) are 1st year players.
Brodie is still 20, and the 21 year olds include Darcy Mac, Fiorini, Ah Chee (hope he stays).
Jeepers, Corbett is 23 and has the tools to be good.
Shiver me timbers, 2MP is still only 22 and is, in fact, 200cms tall.

We are 500 miles from a finals contending team but a lot closer to be being respectable than the last 2 games have shown.

As for list turnover, suspect the rookie list will be hit hard.
Anybody out of contract will have some work to do or will be on less money. Which is right for us atm.

Remember that the older ooc guys will have been signed under the old regime and would have all been over-paid for what they delivered on those contracts. All of Day, Ah Chee, and Martin for example would be offered a good chunk smaller % of the salary cap now. They were all signed on potential at the time, but for whatever reason that potential has not eventuated.

So there will be change, but I suspect that change will be more on the club's terms than the players.

Who do we cut from the Senior and Rookie lists?
People were surprised about "only 8" but who can be cut
From most to least likely

Martin-likely to request trade
Riska
Wigg (sad part of footy but it is what it is)
Leslie
Heron
Dawson
?Joyce
?Schoenfeld
?Nutting
?Hanley(possibly RookieA)

There's not much that else can be cut that I can see

Nicholls
CROSSLEY ( better put him at rookie A, hardly play NEAFL this year to impress other club to waste a list spot on him For another two year).

Cameron said on the club podcast that we wouldn’t be turning over too many players this year due to the large turnover last years although I agree we should be looking at ten or so.

A silver lining of these disgraceful performances is that something needs to change and it should be highlighting this to the AFL.

Either the AFL offers either meaningful assistance to try to break the retention/competitive cycle and actually get this club going or they should have the balls to shut down the club.

Letting this club just continue to go how it is ingenious to the supporters and borderline malpractice.

Whatever needs to happen to get senior players to the club needs to happen this offseason.

I actually don't mind AFL shut it down. Whether they move some players to Tassie or Brisbane I don't really care.

And you call yourself a Suns supporter?:drunk:
You don't support a half baked team. The management is so bad that they gave away second and third round pick for free. Calling yourself Sun supporter like yourself is one thing but to actually want improvement is another thing all together, a slow torture dead is worse than a fast pass away. Time to stop this feeder club joke, Sun supporter is just a label, nothing worse than you mouth and you action contradicted to each other when nobody watching.

Where?

The whole of QLD is already divided between the two of us.
