Unlucky? Hawthorn will be licking there lips. There's another they will be able to pay a packet of chips for

Never good to see any player do a serious injury and Hawks have been somewhat unlucky in so far as Mitchell did his leg the season after winning the Brownlow and O'Meara missed a fair amount of his first season injured. They play high risk high reward with their draftees and are fortunate to have a number of willing recruits come to their club. Being based in Melbourne certainly helps Hawthorn in this regard and is a luxury the Swans do not have.

Hawthorn are rumoured to be front runners for Coniglio and who knows how that will pan out for their club if he has done his ACL. Perhaps they will be licking their lips as you suggest, however I don't imagine too many clubs would be stoked to have their prized recruit sitting on the sidelines for half of next season. I recall Swans fans weren't jumping for joy when Tippett was forced to sit out half his first season so I don't imagine Hawks club would be either if Coniglio is out injured.

IMO we have all the youngsters we need. Use our first high draft pick in years to trade in a proven talent who we won't have to wait 4-5 years for their best. Richmond in 17 and Brisbane this year are proof that just one or two extra guns can rocket you up the ladder pretty quickly.

We need a Sydney Stack like player in the team. Maybe we should just offer both him and Bolton 450k per year (or whatever KJ and McV are on). Surely no way Richmond could match it. They can have Florent back.
Imagine those two sharking the ball around packs and linking up compared to what we have now...suddenly JPK, Parker, Hewett and Rowbottom have an outlet on the move.
Game style and prospects immediately transformed. A watchable team.

and if we want to use buddy effectively at all, and even guys like rampe parker etc in their prime, we would be better to add proven talent

shuffling more unproven kids and spending a few years being s**t wont achieve much

Rowbottom and his 12 tackles say hi 👋 As do Port's rookies, Walsh and Sydney Stack.
You don't have to wait years for rookies to perform, we just need the right ones in the first round.
We need a couple of mature guys - but not at the expense of our highest draft pick. Perhaps if anyone wants out back to Vic they can swap for them that way.

rowbottoms 12 tackles were great, but we have enough promising types imo

Those mids you listed (besides Rowbottom and occasionally Hewett) don't use the outlets they have. The amount of times I've seen the likes of Jones and Florent waiting on the outside and getting themselves into good positions only to be ignored in favour of hack kicks, long bombs and sky balls by those inside mids themselves, it's infuriating. Jones has to start winning it at half back if he wants to get the ball, and Florent has to go inside if he wants to win the ball. I think it's just the way our midfield operates, and why it's so ineffective.

So I think we could get a Sydney Stack, hell we could even have an Andrew Gaff or Mitch Duncan or Lachie Whitfield waiting on the outside, and they would get half as many possessions as they do at their current clubs, because they just wouldn't be utilised to their fullest. I get your desire for the game style to change and be more watchable, but I think it has less to do with personnel and more to do with operation.

No doubt our inside midfielders are not natural ball players so to speak, JPK was never great in this regard, but had the sheer strength to get his arms free. he has also declined noticeably despite still finding the footy.
I'd send him on a payday to GC if he was accepting of that at this stage of his career. If guys like Hodge and Mitchell at Hawsk can....
Hewett is a bit better being more mobile, and Rowbottom as you said too. The biggest shame is it was Tich who was making vast strides in that regard during his last season with us - and then again with Hawks. A ball winner who is also a natural ball user that frees up the congestion is the rarest of players. Florent at least had the initial toe to get free and find an outlet when played more inside. A midfield of Hewett, Parker, Florent, Rowbottom feeding Stack and Bolton....🤤 who then put it on the chest of Hayward, Lizard, Reid, McCartin and Buddy (if he ever gets back to it).
Dawson and Heeney can rotate through to provide strong options when needed.
All we need then is a ruck and a KPD.
Easy.;)

JPK without a decent ruck will never perform that well. We actually looked better with Hewitt being number 1 and Clarke tagging. However, Clarke...we gave away Newman who can kick for him???

That midfield sure would be awesome. Except they’d be under Kirk’s leadership, who has genuinely done nothing to impress me as midfield coach based on the evidence available. Unless Parker, Kennedy etc are insubordinate shits, I can only assume their philosophy of see-ball-bomb-ball is by design. It’s ******* stupid because we have guys like Jones and Florent there for a reason. They are good at creating space for themselves yet the inside guys are more interested in trying to get it inside 50 off one step from the centre circle while under enormous pressure. That’s why our entries from the centre bounces are so crap compared to our entries from defence, where we are actually elite if I recall hearing correctly.

Bennell let go by the dockers. He is the type of player we absolutely must take a chance on. Not entirely convinced all of his "injuries" were exactly that. Highly skillful player and would instantly improve our team if we could get him right. Wouldn't cost the world either. High risk, high reward. Make it happen Sydney!

Turn it up , seriously if we have a no dickhead policy he ain't comin.

Its easy to get suckered in for bennel's talent. I dont hate the idea..proviso is first slip up, no matter how small and your out the door. Sydney amonymity would help someone like him. Also jist had his first child so may make him grow up a bit

Funny the quick reaction and calls for no dh policy. That's the exact attitude that lead to 17 clubs including us passing on stack. 17 clubs look pretty stupid right now. Need to start looking for elite talent in alternative means to get us back up the top. Bennell is exactly that. Agree with superstar swan, a 1 year contract with clauses for performance and attitude won't hurt us.
