Changes vs Melbourne, melt away!

Rewatched the 2nd half last night. The ball left our forward 50 far too easy. Our high half forwards and mids were way too pedestrian apart from Cameron who was great with 7 tackles only 1 behind Yeo who leads the league. Ryan 0 tackles, Masten 1, Rioli, Allen, Darling and Kennedy 2 each.

The loss of cripps was huge. He led the league last year in tackles inside 50 with 49 total. Our next best last year were Darling with 22, and Yeo with 20 and Lecca and Rioli with 19. I'd send a message and drop or rest Ryan and tell the rest of the forwards and mids they'd better lift their intensity and follow Yeo's lead or you're back in the 2's.

Out: Ryan, Cripps
In: Petch, AhChee or whichever forward mid is in the best form

i'll ask it again for the people who just get irrationally angry:

how many quiet games does JK need to have before discussing his spot in the best 22 becomes legitimate?

The answer to this question cannot be "NEVER HE IS BEST EVER PLAY HIM FOREVER"

Depends what his role is. Currently is taking the best defender and is in sync with darling's running patterns etc etc. He is an automatic in no matter what this year.

Next year i think if he has 2 to 3 quiet games and guys like waterman are firing in the WAFL, then agree he has to make way.

It will suck if nic nat is injured but he's only been back for 3 games and we've been able to cope without him for most of the season.

We've got a block of winnable games coming up, which should allow us to get through this injury patch without too many issues.

I love JK as much as we all do but how many goalless games does he need to have?

Not even a rhetorical question, if he had 5 games in a row where he failed to make an impact would we still play him just because he's JK?

I remember when sumich was on his last legs.
Was too much of a legend to leave out of the side but became a bit of a joke being labelled as the "decoy" in our forward line

Not something I'd like jk to be known for tbh.

In some parallel universe where this board can agree on the definition of a quiet game, I'd say 4-5 would be fair. Seeing as we live in this universe though, the answer is "go stick your head in a pig".

Geez some of you precious little fairies get touchy about discussing stuff on this board.

It's a forum for like-minded supporters to discuss their passion and that means discussing everything about our team including how long jk lasts in our team.

I would have thought these things could get discussed without some of you twats getting all pissy.

Getting a bit into the silly comments now.
To even suggest that Kennedy’s place in the side is in question is the height of disrespect for a player who is still a champion
As I said previously, if Kennedy was on the market 15 other clubs would still line up to sign him.

Being in premiership mode as we are right now I would say that nobody is safe in our side.
It's one of the reasons we are in premiership contention.
I'd say the message was clear way back when Masten was dropped. Perform of go back and find form.
Simpsons not a mug. He knows when someone needs a break in the twos but to suggest anybody in our side can go week on week without playing their role effectively and contributing to the team is ridiculous.
Kennedy is far from being dropped but I'd say if he continues this form slump he will find himself having a "managed" break.

Any truth the rumours of Nic Nat doing a serious injury? Just going by his insta or maybe be looking into it to much.

Don’t know but I did notice Bailey Williams getting a good run as 1st ruck for Beagles which was a change from previous weeks.. Only saw the 1st half ..

He may get a debut soon if Nicnat is rested ..

I know hindsight is a beautiful thing, but electing to play Cole over Schofield (against Collingwood no less), was a mistake.

Willi Rioli also needs a huge rocket. has been ordinary and since coming back, and if Cripps wasn't injured I would be playing him in the WAFL, particularly when Waterman and Petch put up 5 and 6 goals respectively this weekend and are absolutely banging the door down for selection.

Yeah I agree. I know we should be looking for % boosters against Melbourne and Carlton but in reality I’d just take the 4 points with the guys we have out.. next 3 weeks we just need to scrap 3 wins, can’t drop any of them. Just need to keep piling up the wins like we did earlier in the year until we get guys back.

It's funny how perspective changes after a 1 point loss.
Before the game and up until the final quarter I thought what a brilliant team we have. It's a complete team, no real weaknesses. Best spine in the AFL, a midfield that has no passengers (even if we don't have a Judd-level superstar in there). More class small forwards and defenders than you can poke a stick at. etc.

30 minutes later, fold the club!
Kennedy cooked. Rioli underdone. Ryan lazy. Cole a liability.

Realistically though:
Out: JK (rested), Cripps (inj), Cole
In: Waterman, Petch, Watson

It's true but now top 4 spot is at risk - Must win at least 2 of next 3 games, ideally all 3

Another Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy reference wasted ;)

I know what you mean, they were starting to look like they were hitting their finals form, the invincibles-then Bam!-the wheels come off? But Pies had so much to lose and gain. Cripps was a big blow. We came off a 6 day break after 2 hard slogs in the wet, one a Derby, and simply ran out of legs. The game could've gone either way, we could equally have won by a point. JK will come good-he's had tonsillitis and flu, an interrupted preseason, surgery, gets hammered every game. Rioli will come good-cops more attention now. Ryan is not lazy, a hardworking forward, running patterns are crazy, also copping more attention. Cole wasn't a liability all the times he played well for us? I think for this game it's unrealistic to blame the players, they'll certainly be beating themselves up. Sometimes you just lose.

Ghossein is going full troll on here but i agree with him completely regarding Kennedy 🤷‍♂️

Too many people taking it personally and attacking him over it, just take a deep breath before venting your outrage over a differing opinion.

I support WCE, not one player. I want us to win games, i want the best possible team out on the park to accomplish that.

Kennedy is a legend of the club, but that doesn't mean he's exempt from criticism. He's just another player, an important player at that, but just another cog.

That cog, is arguably not getting the job done as it should right now. We've got options. I'd like us to replace him and see how we look.

Is anyone saying he's crap? Is anyone saying he should be delisted? For what he's done for the club, he should be on the list for as long as he likes and can hang up the boots whenever he's ready. But that shouldn't automatically mean he stays in the team until that point. That sets a terrible precedent.

We've got plenty of talented young tall forwards who are stiff they are missing out on games. Sentimentality for an aging player is getting in the way.

Can you imagine losing Brander over this because we choose to carry Kennedy for another season?

Hawthorn have just been through this exact thing with Roughead, and finally pulled the trigger. It's not personal, it's just part of the game :brokenheart:
