Are Riddell just starting to hit there straps after 2 very good wins?
Doing very nicely for sure, could arguably be faves atm, however we all know as per last year that Riddell are always a chance to beat Riddell at times with their behaviour. Still a pretty decent closet matched top 6, diggers were pretty good yesterday with plenty out so don’t discount them.

Interested to know how the finals grounds Romsey and Sunbury are fairing in this weather? Anyone in the know got updates?

Noticed young Fowler on crutches with an ice pack on his knee at halftime, fingers crossed for Wallan that it’s nothing serious, hate to see young stars of our comp injured.

Not hearing good news unfortunately. Probably done for the year.

I hope like hell they dont play it at Sunbury again. By far an inferior facilty.

Its a district league, please leave it at a RDFNL club in Romsey or better yet Lancefield. Country charm, better surface, good car parking, business for small country towns. Dont play any Final at Sunbury FC. Its great to see towns like Rockbank, Lancefield, Riddell, Woodend, Romsey hold a final, there are so many great options.

Comp don’t care as long as they are making the coin

Don't quote me but did I hear right that on top of the $10 entry into Clarke Oval on Saturday, and levy of $1 was added on top for entry of a vehicle?

What do fans want though? In the past we've had finals scheduled at venues that have been hammered with rain on the Monday and Tuesday before a scheduled final that has made that venue unplayable and the venue has to be changed on final inspection on a Wednesday or Thursday.
My preference is, lock in the venues that can take the traffic and the weather .. keep those grounds free from any additional traffic in that period and ensure that the footballers have the best available surface to play on.
On a side note .. when we were calling games in the finals, it was a logistical nightmare to move our games to other venues during the week of finals..some volunteers would only travel so far.. needed extra equipment that we didn't have to set up etc ..

I parked outside the ground to be honest mate, but Clarke oval is so big i

The fans dont want to go to Clarke oval. Buy the way how did Sunbury get the Canteen last year? surley a RDFL club should get canteen takings. Down in Geelong i no the canteen gets swaped between clubs each day no matter if its at a neutral venue. Good revenue for RDFL clubs. Clarke oval is poor viewing and the people i spoke to last year couldnt stand the grand final at Clarke oval

The clubs already rotate bar, canteen and raffles from final to final.

I was against Clarke oval until last year but I was wrong. Last year was the biggest attendance in a very, very long time and the atmosphere was better than expected. Games were not compromised by the poor surface either as they can be at Romsey when you get a wet week.

I have to agree that Clarke Oval is a great place to watch football.. my personal preference is Lancefield .. I love how the atmosphere is trapped in by the trees and I have a sentimental attachment to it because we called our first Grand Final there with Lancefield winning and we were invited into the celebrations after the game .. it was pretty special.
I've spoken to people that said they loved Clarke Oval last year and those that weren't fine with it .. but ultimately, we need to have grounds that can cope with the traffic and the weather. Romsey and Clarke Oval are the best. It's a tough situation because do you select a venue based on what is best for the spectators..or what is best for the players? There are so many great viewing grounds in the competition but don't have a reliable surface for the footballers... and then we cannot discount the netballers either. Sunbury and Romsey provide a good space for spectators to enjoy the football and the netball with the netballers actually having sheds at court-side at Clarke Oval.

I don't think it suits the competition where it runs the risk of changing a venue mid-week because a ground hasn't held up.. it's happened too many times in recent years.

Do you want the best playing experience or best viewing experience.. which gets priority?

My biggest issue with Clarke Oval is access - only one gate in and out. The gatekeepers have no idea how to ensure the traffic gets in and out. If you are there after 8.30am its a nightmare!

Off course a lot people wouldn’t want the Grand Final at Romsey, just in case Romsey made it that far. Clarke Oval is a s**t hole. Pretty much all grounds built west / East are rubbish. The Finals should not go outside of the RDFNL.
Which venues do you think finals should be held at and what ones would be suitable for both players and spectators regardless of heavy weather before and on the day of?

The gound surface problem is the scheduling of games on Saturday follwed up by Sunday games with the juniors on the same weekend.Even when you explain this to the league at the start of the season the answer is the draw is the draw. It happens a lot and the grounds have no recovery time at all. Most grounds will come up by the final series. But the league wont change after a bumper final series last year. Best Surface from what I have seen this year would be Wallan.

Lancefield for me was a place who always turned out a good GF day, for players and spectators.
I just wonder that had some form of extra undercover area for spectators been established with some of the dough they generated over that period, would the season decider still be there?

Romsey equally as good following all their upgrades to the facilities, yes the ground can get heavy but often recovers reallyu quickly meaning if scheduling is done to keep it fresh in the lead up then no worries.

I didn't hate Clarke oval last year and attendance was definitely up on previous years. Clarke has the best facilities doesn't it with regards to change rooms, scoreboard etc ?
Why don't they use the grand final as a chance to help some of the battling clubs at the moment. So the bottom 2 clubs gets to run the canteen and bar for example. Just an idea.
