Go compare the two players on the EPL stats page and Duffy measures up quite well. Maguire is a 10% better passer, but Duffy has the superior defensive stats.

Possibly. He's been compared to Bale as a similar trajectory, and we saw last season that he can't defend anywhere near as well as he can attack going forward, but as a whole, like Fulham he was rather trash last season.
We don't need a LW and may sell a LB. I'd rather spend 25-30m and snatch Tierney.

Why spend that much on a guy who'll be on the bench as an attacker? Especially when another CM and a CF are needed.

That's because he didn't play LB last season, and he was playing in a setup that was dreadful defensively. He should be, maybe not a top priority, but a priority nonetheless simply because of how good a prospect he still is. You don't turn your nose up when there's an opportunity to sign that sort of talent.

No? As opposed to me suggesting that Maguire who has played more PL football at a higher level than Duffy, and with an International team performing at a higher level (World Cup Semi v not even qualifying), might suggest he's a better player.

I love Duffy as I watch a lot of Ireland, but you're being incredibly biased. I thought you didn't even watch any other football other than Brighton?

The way people fawn over stats and use them to judge a player's ability or performance level does my head in TBH. There's so many other factors that can influence the stats. I've always thought that the individual stats are more of a reflection of the role the player has been asked to play by his manager, rather than any indication of the player's natural strengths and habits. The best example I can think of was during LVG's reign at United how the individual stat sheets told a vastly different story about the player's natural playing style because they had such a rigid risk free system that afforded the players almost no room for individual expression.

How will we ever know if with exposure KWP (who has over a 50% start to MOTM rate in the league so far) could be our version of Trent Alexander-Arnold if we sit him on the bench unused or not in the squad for 90% of the season???

As for your earlier comment Roma are signing Mancini from Atalanta for roughly what TA’s release clause is, which suggests they don’t like his wage demands, and means he presently has no seriously linked suitors, and may stay true to his word to seeing out his contract.

Atletico are reportedly showing interest in Eriksen, meanwhile his mooted replacement should he leave, Lo Celso, has his current club spending money on players for good money. Maybe they have a big impending sale forthcoming...

Quite happy with the current squad, minus another midfield signing (still uber keen on Van De Beek for our system) and a left back (Tierney, Sessegnon or both if Rose goes).

A season where we lose Eriksen, Rose and Tripp for Lo Celso, VDB, Ndombele, Sessegnon and Tierney would suit me fine

For the players under 25 you're probably right. Was thinking more of how we signed say Balbuena for 3.5M and he's probably worth about 15M or so now.

Brighton play Leicester twice a season.

Maguire wasn't anything more outstanding than our CBs who are a huge reason why an average team is still in the PL.

I see the bias all the time. Massive bias to players from certain teams over others due to their size and popularity.

Maguire wasn’t even that great last season if you listen to Leicester fans. I think he’s a good player who is being massively overhyped.
