Carn Ken man up.

Admit your mistakes, selections are just a joke most weeks. I blame you for the loss against GWS. You throw our best player to the wolves in R Gray, the ball coming in so he has to to try and mark against 3 GWS players, just plain dumb.
So Dixon goes back to a 2nd rate competition, kicks a couple of goals and he's magically back in form, give me a break.

Your rinse and repeat selections are ridiculous.

Keith is no more a Norwood flog than Bob McLean was. He is not the problem and we are in real danger of throwing the baby out with the bath water.

GameDay needs a revamp. Short of AFL reserves I’d like to see a location somewhere where the kids are safe and adults can have a drink. I’d like to hear a club insider talk for 10 minutes about real AFL tactics- like a 10 minute snippet of the Members convention with topics like why we seems to have no forward line properly explained. We are supposed to be the best informed footy supporters so let’s build on that.

This stuff would all be great......after the coach has been sent on his way.

KT, if you are by some chance on BF, looking for peoples responses to your email I say this.

Yes a couple of big mistakes were made, the extending of Ken's contract and the co-captains debacle.
It is Ken that is the problem here, you should not be taking the blame for a coach that has under achieved. You have provided him with everything possible to be successful but has failed. There is no shame in that for Ken, I am sure he would be well suited at another club.
Just not Port Adelaide.

ABC have done a story on KT's email and also a bit from the interview with Fagan on ABC radio this morning and his response, that I transcribed a bit of the conversation on the last post of page 59 of this thread.

The article left out the best bit which was uncomfortable listening in that he kept badgering a squirming, blabbering Fages by continually asking what he personally was taking responsibility for. It was good radio as it wasn't the usual soft questioning by footy media but really backing the interviewee into a corner and not letting him out.

David Bevan has been a politics reporter and court reporter for a couple of decades before he got to host a program first with Matt Abraham a decade or so ago, and now his own show - but does half an hour joint with Ali Clarke after the AM program. He knows how to deal with BS spin from an interviewee.

No. It's only the football that's killed the atmosphere. How often do we kick consecutive goals or more to rev people up. Hardly ever. Therein lies the problem on game day?!
Only because the new car smell has worn off. If we were s**t in 14 instead of coming up with a bunch of landmark wins at home, then I wonder how fondly the AO experience would be remembered from 14. Because not much has changed. But then maybe thats the issue, its all become a bit stale.

I like the way the media spin things.

Port Adelaide currently sits 10th on the ladder, behind Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs.

Not, level on games with St Kilda that sacked their coach, just 1 game ahead of North that sacked their coach and 2 games ahead of cellar dwellers Carlton that also sacked their coach.

Now that's reality.

I agree, I only quoted it from his email, but wasn’t the term used by a few on BF with their conspiracy theories?

100%

I wasn't finger pointing, rather just surprised he used that term himself.

The reference came from one (many) of our supporters filling in the survey.
He was just letting us know that he's read them.

in that case, he was clever. Listening is 90% of most jobs.

At the Richmond game a couple of weeks ago they had a ballad playing that you could rock your kids to sleep too 5 mins before the bounce ....
Not a John Denver fan I take it.

That playlist was quite strange for a young Aussie male.

Maybe it was a cryptic ode to Troy Chaplin ;)

I'm fine with KT moving on. I don't blame him totally, as the tone is set by the board and the footy dept is the responsibility of Chris Davies and Ken Hinkley. I think we've had the right people in place and made generally good moves during the offseason, so I'm happy to give Davies a pass as well.

But KT moving on absolutely must be a recognition that he didn't adequately oversee the footy department and made a horrendous decision to extend Hinkley for 3 years.

And that recognition absolutely must give the incoming CEO a mandate for change.

The new CEO is set up really nicely to make a few easy, popular decisions. KT is also set up to do so if he can move Hinkley on.

What’s our strategy for the next 5 years?

• Onfield: Keep meandering along?
• Off-field: ... ‘China’? ‘150th!’?

And then?

Recognizing that Keith has essentially admitted that they [he] has made some mistakes and is planning a course correction what things would you [as Keith] do before next season [accepting you probably can't terminate Ken]. Mine would be;

1) Refocus the organization by changing it's mission statement back to "We Exist to Win Premierships" and eliminate any process that DOES NOT contribute to achieving that mission. (ie it must be able to be demonstrated how every process contributes to winning premierships).
2) Instruct the coach that he is to appoint a single captain for the 2020 season - that captain must be in place before preseason starts and assigned Travis Boak as his mentor. The captain is to front up to EVERY post match press conference and answer questions when asked.
3) Instruct the coach he is to bring in skills/kicking/tackling consultants as appropriate [ie Ben Perkins] to fix our deplorable skills issue.
4) Instruct the coach to appoint an actual forward as Forwards coach.
5) Instruct the players that they are being paid to be in peak physical condition and to play football at the peak of their ability. It is their responsibility to conduct and present themselves in a manner that allows them to meet that requirement (this may mean making individual sacrifices - ie water skiing etc). It is also their individual responsibility to be able to perform basic football skills (kick accurately, handball accurately, etc) to an acceptable AFL standard.

There is the old adage that you don't necessarily make your best salesman the sales manager. I think this probably applies to Ken - I think Ken is probably an excellent Assistant Coach but for whatever reason just not a very good AFL Head Coach. With this in mind in addition to the above I'd like to also see us be leverage Kens greatest strength (which appears to be his ability to build strong player relationships) and do the following (which may or may not be possible; Note: Achieving this would challenge Keith's leadership and negotiating abilities);
a) Create a position of "Chief Performance Officer (CPO)" (or some such position/title) and 'promote' Ken into that position - the position would be structured to utilize Kens strengths - namely being his ability attract talent and to foster strong coach/player relationships) and as an advisor/mentor to the "Head Coach". He sits in the coaches box at the pleasure of the Head Coach on game day. He is paid commensurate with the terms of his existing contract.
b) Appoint either Monty or Schofield as the new "(Junior) Head Coach". 2+1 Year contract.

Very good post but I don't think Ken will buy it.
