I'll concede error when a club spends a high draft choice on an over 30 who has played 300 games.
You know if they get a compo pick
Afl will make em, They will have to trade
Remember they paid way way way overs for welling due to him being local
They need a experienced defender , mid , and leadership
We can throw a local in too

I hate to say this
Losing now may be a good thing
Dispel the myth
If we finish 8 or 9 it may force the clubs hand
We better get prepared as other clubs are passing us with better balanced lists
Losing to the cats first round started the rot ( they had 6 new players)

Sure we've gotta keep some but for sure the following IMO should be attempted

I'm sorry but I'm trading grundy, he's out of contract next year and we should maintain

To replace him until lynch is ready ;
I would look at Ryder, preuss obrien or Jacobs and the guy from essendon
I'm trying to trade Sidey and or pendels to the suns , throw in Thomas and Langdon maybe sack
Get pick 1
I'm trying cox for hunt preuss or weideman
I'm looking at all players available
Greenwood
Hill
Kersten
Tomlinson

Restock with up to 6 kids which lowers the cap
Get Cameron

Keep for 2022

Love the passion, but taking a chainsaw to the list is a sure fire way of sending us to the bottom for years. We can rebuild, and regenerate the list on the run. All the stronger clubs (Hawthorn, Geelong, WCE etc) have shown it is feasible.

I think the sentiment of changing things up and being bold are things I agree with, just not on the scale you are suggesting.

Here's my strategy.

Players untouchable
- Grundy (marquee player as plays more than the traditional ruck role). We should sign to long term deal
- De Goey
- Stephenson
- Pendles (unless he gets a god father offer to go to Gold Coast ala Hodge I would never put a player like him up for trade)

Delist / retire
- Reid
- Broomhead
- Goldsack
- Dunn
- Wells
- Murray

Free agent
- Elliott - let him go and get compo for him

Trade bait
- Sier - think there would be plenty of clubs need an inside bull.
- Scharenberg (not sure we would get much and might be better to keep.
- Cox - had a poor season but some clubs will still remember the prelim final - don't see much upside with him
- Thomas

I cant see us getting massive value from these players, but using a number of pick to potentially trade up to higher pick might work

We just need to be smarter than ever with your trade and draft strategy and target a KPD, KPF, and crumbing forward with pace.

We really need to identify some KPP talent and asap.

I'm still annoyed we didn't take Josh Battle in 2016, i was talking him up as were a few others that year. ( I have a mate that coached him, first class attitude)

Ratugolea went 4 picks later.

Mitch Lewis at pick 76.

Here’s a team I want

Backline- Howe, Roughy, Maynard
Half back- Crispy, Dunn, Goldy

Centres- Phillips, Pendles, Steele

Half Forwards- Jeremy Cameron, Travis Varcoe, Caz brown
Forwards- Tom Papley, Brodie Miochek, Stevo

Followers- Treloar, Grundy, Crisp

Bench- Beams, Adam Tomlinson, Brad Hill, De Goey
You have Crisp twice and Goldsack is finished and Varcoe should be depth at best next season.

Very unique player at 203cms. Runs, jumps and moves like a 190cm player. He’s 2cms taller than most ruckman. Same height and weight as Grundy. We need to keep Moore and get him right. We need to spend $$$ on our medicos and fitness department and suck it up and pay the tax for exceeding the soft cap. We have the money, spend it on a cap we can exceed.
We’ll be waiting for ever until his body gets right, we need to move on and set up the team around players that can actually get on the park.

Don't think we can rebuild on the run
Just don't have the logistical pull Geelong have for free agents nor the medical know how of hawthorn
My concern is if grundy forces a trade back home
Crows are real keen, very confident and cashed up
They know there's a chance and are in the ears of a few players re suns and getting that pick

Pick 1 and more this year
Pick 9 or worse next year
I'd keep Murray he's our second best or third best under 23 and has speed

If pendels did go for a grandfather IMO it's win win win for all
Let's us play Maynard, de goey on ball
We might then get coniglio and Cameron

Darky stop wasting your time here mate, take it straight to Ned Guy!

Re Grundy, I would take Adelaide's first pick but would have to be pick 1 as well as O' brien and there second round pick

Don't think we can rebuild on the run

It's getting ugly at the top so we have to find a way to cut and replace on the fly to get the demographic balanced again

Age Next Year:

Wells 35
Dunn 33
Goldy 33
Varcoe 32
Pendles 32
Reid 31
Mayne 31
Greenwood 31
Beams 30
Howe 30
Sidebottom 29
Roughead 29
Cox 29
Thomas 28
Elliott 28
Treloar 27
Mihocek 27
Madgen 27
Wills 27

That's very, very old... so will be the oldest in the comp.

I’d invest heavily to sort out the medical function. No reason why we shouldn’t have the best - pay the tax.

Interesting doggies have expressed interest in Moore. I’d be open to a trade given his vulnerable body. But it would have to be massive overs to get the deal done

One for next year's thread probably (unless he re-signs with the Giants in between), but how do people feel about making a play for Tim Taranto (out of contract at the end of 2020)?

Isn't he currently negotiating an extension of his current contract?

Well it's overdue

The club is not addressing the issue
The sad reality is development is not happening
Our reserves are wallowing
Even early a 1 point win against coburg
We have 9 guys on our list as speculative picks
10 guys injury prone
4 guys not up to it

Here's the list
Speculative
Cox
Magden
T brown
Atu
Murphy
Wilson
Tohill
Keane
Lynch
Injured and suspect
Dunn
Moore
SHAz
Elliott
Reid
Broomhead
Greenwood
Wells
Langdon
Aish
Then add sack
Then add Daicos
Then add Crocker
Then add varcoe
Then add wills

I think that's 60%

Then add Murray and stepho

Really stupid list profile
SOME ONE NEEDS THE ARSE

THEN for good measure
Whe fragile
Howe getting fragile
Mayne
Adams now fragile
De goey lower leg issues

Gee we're banking on Lady Luck
And each season we start behind the eight ball

I've named 28 guys
Without beams
It's really 34
Pendels is slowing too and Sidey can't break a tag
The only way out of the mess were in is trade

We gotta get very active

We need to get two high picks and 3 guys 25 and under
We need to get Cameron
We have no first this year
What a crazy desperate overreach beams was

You could apply the same obtuse analysis to any club and get the same result.

I hear you. I still believe we are not investing enough off field.
Although we've signed Adams for five years and he's got on the park less this year. Anyway, if Dogs offer him a lot of dosh, he will take it and our hand will be forced. They can offer more money than us.

That’s my point. I’m saying we are not doing enough. We need to spend more on the sports medicine side so we get players playing more games.

If we're to delist aging veterans and selected injury prone players it will cut deeply into our depth. Our depth is already exposed. You can't replace all those guys with 18yos. I'm not saying it doesn't have merit but we will need to be clever about how we renew that depth with recycled rejects from other AFL clubs and state leaguers. It's not impossible but challenging.
