Mark Fine vs Scott Watters

Mark Fine was vocal at the time of Scott Watters sacking as evidenced by this thread https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/thre...tt-watters-immediately-mark-fine-sen.1032513/ locked years ago.
In his most recent Fooytyology podcast (round 20 preview) https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/footyology/id1263314491 he mentions some of Scott Watters questionable behaviour whilst coaching the Saints. You'll find it at about the 28 minute mark.

He claims he's only scratching the surface and there is much, much worse. Does anyone have any insights into some of the stuff that went down at Saint Kilda?

Mark Fine does mention that.
Not something I'd heard before.
I'm pretty sure it was implied at the time that watters was the reason for the dwarf. It was also said that the players told watters that their mad monday was at a different location.

Who is Mark fine anyway? Rohan ive heard of. Still it's interesting listening. Maybe the saints were justified after all. We never really found out the details of what went on. But damn hearing this makes me wanna know more.

Dal Santo on SEN the following day of this podcast basically called Watters a liar. Mind you, Nick also thought the culture was going ok at the time as well.....

Coaches get sacked because of results, players keep their jobs because of poor results. That’s the industry we are in.
There are good coaches and bad coaches of course but ultimately a coaches record is indicative of the players they have to coach.
It’s easy to bag coaches but rarely do we bag the players they had to coach.
A good player with good character 99% of the time will ply his trade no matter who the coach is. Unfortunately in this industry coaches cop all the flak why the Prima Donna players who fail week after week keep getting a job failing.
That was somewhat understandable 30 years ago but these days where they a fully professional players should be getting the sack in far larger numbers than they do.

The more I hear about Scott Watters, the more I am shocked that he ever got a senior coaching role. Completely divided that club and made bizarre decision after bizarre decision.

Bit rich to blame Watters for the Saints being fractured, its the way its been in the AFL except for the Ross Lyon era.

Where was Butters thru the period in question?
Is Fine trying to rewrite history to excuse his clubs litany of errors, its acceptance of mediocrity.

Butters resigned as president in 2007...

as was said Butters hadn't been at the club for quite a few years.
Don't think Finey is making any excuses at all, the club was a mess, they cocked up Lyon and appointed an angry dwarf in his sted. Instead of galvanising the leaders to stick fat a help rebuild the list, he went the other way and dismissed and belittled those guys achievements for the decade previous. The club ****ed up no doubt but Watters doesn't seem capable of realising that his behaviour is what got him sacked and that waging a war against the club admin and board, hiring staff and doing media interviews when he was specifically told not to is what led to his sacking, thers a thread about Watters antics on the Saints board if your really interested.

as for the mediocrity comment, what drivel

Was there any reporting at the time by the media that the reason the players set fire to the dwarf was because they hated Watters (nicknamed the "Dwarf")?
makes Montagna out be be a total campaigner tbh.

Hires a midget because of his coach, then sets fire to him and refuses to pay him as he didn't entertain the players

Tbf it is quite common what a *stick Montagna is anyway

Perhaps the dwarf was hired by Montagna but then Milney took over?

And Montagna defended Milney and said nothing happened......again
