The 'battle' for eighth

Yeah it’s highly unlikely.
But remember that teams like Adelaide and Essendon can lose percentage in the last 3 games too.
Anything is possible. I just don't like any team's chances outside of the top 8 when they have a sub 100 percentage with three rounds to go.

We definitely have the best draw of the teams in our vicinity but it's difficult to be confident this year with how inconsistent we've been. A win over Sydney at home this week and a Crows loss against against West Coast in Perth should see us enter the top 8. I'll feel far more comfortable if we're sitting in the top 8 with 2 rounds to go against beatable opponents (North away and Freo at home).

One week at a time.
Crows have just won their last game of the year. Bulldogs younger side will see them over the line in Ballarat.

Some crucial games coming up.

Ess V WB this week is big, but if Ess lose then the Ess V Freo game next week becomes HUGE for the Bombers.

Next week we also have Bris V Cats and Richmond V West Coast (with Richmond V Bris the following week) to sort out home finals and the double chance.

Crow V Collingwood is interesting.

And in the final round, in addition to the games you mention, Essendon V Collingwood possibly for the Bombers to make the 8. It's a distinct possibility Essendon will get stranded on 11 wins and miss the finals (which was unthinkable a mere 2 weeks ago).
Yeah nah, us missing was always a chance in my mind. Given on the weekend we were down Bellchambers, Hurley, Daniher, McKernan, Stewart (pretty much all our proper bigs bar Ambrose and Hooker who looks like he needs a Zimmer frame at the moment), Heppell (captain and AA), Smith (reigning B&F) lost Parish early and had Raz, Saad and Francis sore, it was easy to see this coming.

Reckon we win one more and hope we come up against the pies so we’re at least a snowball’s chance but wouldn’t surprise to see us get run over. Most important ability is availability and unfortunately we’ve just got too many critical pieces missing. Still a very young team though so lots of room to develop.

Nah I think plenty of Essendon supporters were worried about it. I posted the below a week ago.

Wouldn’t discount the possibility of Essendon falling in a heap. We are a Cale Hooker hamstring away from fielding a Hartley - Ambrose - Clarke - Brown - Mckernan spine.

Would be funny if the Bombers lost all 4 of their remaining games yet survive and play finals.

Dogs beat the Dons and Crows yet lose to GWS and have an inferior percentage.

Crows lose their final 3 games

Port win all of theirs all lose one to North etc.

edited - would be even funnier if they roll their week 1 opponent. Just not so funny if they beat us in week 2 or 3 etc ( if we get that far )

Absolute rip snorting finish.

So Hawthorn like just rising up again like a phoenix from the ashes when you think they're gone. Should go into Round 23 with a fighting chance at least to play finals.

Bombers and Crows have their work cut out for them.

Port and the Doggies right in it and maybe even the Dockers who could go into round 23 needing to beat the Power in a winner take all bout to get to September. They had that proposition on hand in both 2005 and 2007 heading into the last round playing the Power with finals on the line.

The men will stand out from the boys over the next few weeks.

So much to play for.

Adelaide could still finnish 5th or 6th. Or 11th or 12th. You just have to go hard in these circumstances. That means reports and injuries. You gotta do what you gotta do.

It would be if Final round matches were played at the same time and clubs playing later didn't already know of prior results. Port vs Freo will most likely be a dead rubber by the time they take the field with Essendon, Hawthorn, Bulldogs and Crows all done prior to Port vs Freo take to field.

Likewise the battle for the top 4 with Collingwood, Geelong, & West Coast done when Tigers and Lions start their match.

* TV. It's the final round of the regular season. Uphold the integrity of each game and the excitement of ALL clubs having to win for position rather than being able to decide their position based on the results of prior matches.

I went from saying "we absolutely won't be making it" 4 hours ago to "we're a shot...again".

What an absolute cluster* today was.
