If we miss out on Burgoyne, which seems likely, I wonder if we’ll try for Birchall - maybe a 1yr deal (with a total games played trigger for a 2nd?)

Or too cooked?

Stick a fork in both of them IMO
Burgoyne has been an amazing player but he'll be 38 next year
If the yardstick is Luke Hodge he just turned 35 and was 33 when he first played for Brisbane

Nope and nope.

The club sees Starcevich as Hodge’s long term replacement. Not role, but position.
No harm asking, in trade, list manager should not be afraid of rejection from other team.

Yeah he looks like a good'un
Maybe with a good offer and immediate game time now we could interest some talented kids from successful clubs.
Thinking similar things with
O'Halloran, Caldwell, Bonar, Flynn from GWS
or
Constable, Jones, Narkle Geelong

Burgoyne, Roughead, Birchall, S. Hill? Geez we’re really scraping the bottom of the almost obsolete barrel. We’ll struggle to get any of these guys on the park regularly, and will be nothing more than a superannuation top-up for them.
We have to target blokes in the 24-26 age bracket, even if they come with less credentials than those listed.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

Yeah, I'm not especially thrilled about any of those at all.
Maybe Hill / Burgoyne if it helps with Martin / Ah Chee retention.. thats about it.

Birchall is shot to pieces. He would take the bronze medal after Bennell and McCartin for most injury riddled player in the comp, and there is no upside for taking the risk given his age.

I just take Burgoyne, worse come to worse retire and take up coaching or scouting talent for GCS, and can always pick up players in mid season draft

Andrew McQualter apparently coaching at St Kilda.
Joe Montagna was saying on radio the other day he is really highly regarded.
One of our former recruits.

Must have a real high footy IQ and be an excellent clubman / on field coach
Stats very underwhelming for 94 games.

He's been at Richmond for 5-6 years....

McQualter arrived at Tigerland at the end of 2013 as a development coach, after a 94-game career with St Kilda and Gold Coast.

He played in three Grand Finals for the Saints (including the 2010 GF replay against Collingwood) in an 89-game career with them, before adding a further five games at the Suns.

McQualter played a coaching and playing role with Richmond’s VFL team in 2014 and 2015, and will assumed the role of AFL midfield stoppage coach in 2017 and 2018.
McQualter will coach the forwards from 2019.
