I would not have dropped Lycett in the first place. However, when we won by 59 points without him in the side Scott was never going to get a recall. His cause for a recall was not helped by the fact that he did not play last week due to the stop start feeder league we have to put up with.

I didn’t expect him to play this week. The initial omission is the issue.

Unpopular opinion: our best ruck set up is one of Lycett/Ladhams with Ryder as second ruck. Wouldn’t do Lycett and Ladhams in the same side

That’s not unreasonable. Why on Earth did we bring Lycett in though? Is it just such an Earth shattering shock for this club when a young big man actually comes on a bit?

Yeah we have gone from paupers to princes re our ruck strength. In Round 2 last year, with Paddy injured, we could not find a ruckman but now we have four on the list. With Paddy Ryder it is probably a case of short term v longer term. If we had no show of crashing the eight I have no doubt that Lycett and Ladhams would be the preferred ruck option but while we can still make it Ken obviously wants Ryder in the side.

Are people seriously complaining about us having more than one capable ruck now?

Surely we all learnt this lesson the hard way.

Worst case scenario we have valuable assets at the trade table.

We brought Lycett in on a large contract and have dropped him when he WASNT playing poorly. It’s not hard to see that it’s nonsensical. You really think this is because we’ve “learnt a lesson” and isn’t just the typical stubbornness we’ve come to expect from this regime?

That was very fair and reasonable and a good call by the club last year... even nearly 3 years ago when we first sounded him out, and Slyce is a gun. If you were going on Ladhams 2018 form and with Hayes doing his knee, of course the club had to get a decent Rickman. Ladhams maturing into quite a player during 2019 is just an absolute bonus and I expect the same from Hayes in 2020 if not 2021

No. I believe the midfield have demanded Paddy rucks. The mids want Paddys tap work.
Pure and simple. Paddy is currently our best tap ruckman and that outweighs the plus points for Slyce at present.
Doubt it, when I saw the stats a few weeks back Lycett had both a higher number (not surprising given more ruck time) and % of HOs to advantage.

Ladhams played as second ruck in the pouring rain in our worst game of the year against the Bulldogs and he was just as good that day as Ryder has been this year. No reason Ladhams can't play forward/ruck. And Lycett has been playing forward/ruck behind NicNat for years so there's no reason he can't do it either.

I'm still working under the theory that we're trying to get Ryder's trade value up.

Ladhams has great potential as a tall forward imo. Very mobile and a great kick. So glad he signed again

Because when we brought in Lycett, Ryder was in the middle of spending a season struggling to stay on the park, Ladhams looked set for a delisting and Frampton wasn't much better. When we got Frampton into the AFL side, he struggled to dominate the ruck against Jake Stringer.

After recruiting Lycett, Ladhams seemed to discover how to football and we found out that Billy is actually a pretty promising key forward, despite spending his life as a ruckman to that point.

And Sam Hayes doesn't even come into the conversation because he was a first year kid that had done an ACL. And probably not expected to do anything until after next year anyway.

None of that really explains why our prized FA #1 ruckman was dropped for no reason. None of what you are saying is wrong, it’s just not relevant. If Lycett is just being rested.....just ******* say it!

To be fair the wet weather means that no matter what team is selected not all would agree as there would be many different opinions on the best mix for the conditions.

Because Wines was so good in our last game in the wet.
Wines was easily best on ground in the wet against west coast.
Last two games for Wines were 34 touches and 32 touches before he got injured again. He has actually been pretty good when he has been able to play, excluding the Bulldogs game and the Collingwood game.

Lycett wasn’t willing or able to get around the ground against GWS. That’s his main strength as a ruck. He should have been burning off their rucks so that the game broke open in the fourth.

He wasn’t playing poorly so much as not playing to the level he’s capable of. He got dropped because we actually had an in form replacement knocking the door down, unlike our tall forward dilemma this year.

Yea we've had a tall forward knocking on the door all year Janus he's either been ignored or suspended.

Billy Frampton says hi.

Liked for ruck comments, nearly disliked for the Tall forward comment.

He got over 20 disposals and won the hitouts .. he played literally at the level he's capable of. He's not a nic naitanui. If Ken's wants to go with this approach that's fine.. how did Lobbe get a gig for years then despite strong form underneath? We pulled the guy from a premiership side doing exactly what he was going there and more here to drop him at this point makes no sense... Drop Ryder who won't be here next year?

If the weather tomorrow is anything like this right now, it will be fine. A little windy, but hardly any rain for a while now.
