If a Blues player is awarded a free, and a Tigers player deliberately lays his body over the ball to slow down play, as is the Tigers way, the umpire needs to get his Shiite together and award a 50. Either that, or, the Blues player should be allowed to try and kick the ball forward with full force while it’s still under the Tiger player’s body; and despite the very real risk of making contact with that player’s ribs. Tigers have mastered the art of conning umpires.

If someone does more wrong than good then naturally my criticisms of them will outweigh my praise of them, it’s just the law of numbers.

So here’s a thought, when the team has more wins then losses, when the players make more good decisions than bad, when the coach makes more good moves/tactics than bad and when the players have less skill errors than effective disposals then that will be reflected in my comments naturally.

Don’t blame a supporter for being a negative commenter when the players/team are providing more negative things for that poster to comment on than positive things.

Teague has more wins than losses at the moment doesn't he?

Is every opponent equal?

You have been prolific over the last 2 weeks, compared to any period since he has taken over

If this was the case, he did a horrible job, Houli killed us.
Really? I didn't think he did. A 22 disposal game & only a couple of inside 50s. In his previous 4 games he had 32, 31, 28 & 30 disposals, with 8 inside 50s against the Magpies & 5 against the Giants. I thought Edwards was their best behind the ball while Prestia was their most effective midfielder.

Let me start by saying I hate wet weather footy as a spectacle. The game becomes a lottery & I haven't had much success in lotteries. Because of the conditions we played mostly chaos footy in the 1st half & this played right into the Tiggies' hands. Our failure to convert our 1st four shots on goal, all getable, further played to the Tiggies' strength of shotgunning the ball from one end of the ground to the other.

After half time we seemed to get our structures in place & Dimma's demeanour in the coaches' box displayed concern for what this meant for his lot. We were playing the kind of footy which had made us competitive over the previous 8 weeks & it was almost game on after we won the 3rd quarter. We had the ball mostly forward for the 1st five minutes of the last quarter, but didn't capitalise on our territory advantage. Tiggies finally took the ball down the other end, kicked a goal & the wind went out of our sails somewhat. We did manage to pull back a couple of goals to give us a slight sniff, but when the rain came again, it made it easy for the Tiggies to close us down.

I thought Daisy was our best player. His desperation & courage, again & again, went a long way to keeping us in touch when it looked like like they were going to run away from us.

Jones & Weitering had the better of their opponents, while I also thought Plowman was very steady. His 11 intercepts reflecting this. SPS also continued to look good in defence.

I thought our midfield, despite compiling big possession numbers, was relatively ineffective, particularly at centre bounces where they mostly seemed to find themselves on the wrong side of the contests.

McGovern made a promising return & I thought he was our best forward. His kicking for goal was a little bit off & this prevented him from having what should have been a 4 goal game. I was pleased with the way he jumped at the ball & also brought the ball to ground. Unfortunately our smalls couldn't capitalise on this, predominantly because they were constantly under pressure from the Tiggies' defence.

De Luca had what I would consider an almost game. He had at least a couple of opportunities to hit the scoreboard, but didn't take them. He got to some good positions, but wasn't able to take possession of the ball. He did at least apply some good pressure. I would like to see him back himself more. He currently seems to be playing like someone who isn't sure they belong at AFL level
.

While playing 2 of the Top 4 teams over this last fortnight we have demonstrated an ability to match them in part, but have not been able to capitalise on enough of our opportunities. We have also handed the ball back too much. Despite the doom-saying by some posters in this thread, it is quite apparent we are not that far off actually beating some of these teams, if we can clean up our ball use & reduce the minutes during which the Opposition control the ball & hit the scoreboard.

Finally, I would like to note what an absolute flog Jack Riewoldt is. He is constantly bending/breaking the rules, but for some reason the umpires seem to overlook this. His constant holding of Jones' arm, his chicken wing tackle, the dragging down of Jones to the ground while at the same time appealing for a free kick just screams floggish behaviour. Combine this with a propensity to use his boot to push players underneath marking contests (didn't see this today, but have seen it on a number of occasions this season, including our Round 1 game) & you have a player who is playing outside both the rules & the spirit of the game, yet is being applauded by some in the process. No doubt we won't hear any comments from his fellow flogs on AFL360 in relation to his chicken wing tackle.
The bold above. Spot on when his belief comes he will be a handy hard nit that would put pressure and kick the occasional goal. He will never be a top-liner but a serviceable part player that can relieve in the middle. Like we did with gibbons we are playing him forward due to necessity. Needs more time to adjust form state league to AFL.

The siren sounded before the mark at the end of the game. Didn’t it? Anyone? This is as big as the Escort Cup in the 70s and it’s not resonating as a huge error in any of the match reports. Should be referred to the bunker in the future.
it didn't decide the game like the Kerry goods mark. It was an awful blunder after an afternoon of awful blunders, but it had no effect, like the game you cite.

Yes he does, and I rightly praised him for making moves that helped us win games earlier.

Today he didn’t do enough moves or the right kind of tactics to help get a win and as such I pointed that out.

Nobody in the AFL gets looked after like Tom Lynch; incredible treatment he gets. Looking forward to him folding under Eagles pressure in finals. Fraud.
Yet masses of other players like the 3 amigos at Geelong are forever being spoken about in exactly the same way. Go figure.

Gibbons and Deluca are given an armchair ride by many on here. Today was the day they had to stand up. Our wings and small forwards were woeful: Gibbons Deluca, Fisher, Lang
Still waiting for your reply....although not convinced you have any remote idea.
So if you don't rate Gibbo and Deluca as rookies, who would you have on our list instead???

This is the area we have to address at the end of the season. These guys have a crack (Lang more just extremely outside rather than not trying imo) but you would really only want one of a Gibbons, Lang or Deluca type in a side. We also really need improvement from Fisher and LOB next season. There’s not much we can really do about it though because we haven’t really got guys demanding a game ahead of them or that would do a better job available to us.

Yeah I think he was outstanding for them, especially in the first half. His cleanliness in the conditions really stood out to me and was a catalyst for some of their forward surges from half back. Numbers mightn't have been there, but also wasn't the conditions to rack up across half back. Was also superb defensively.

You praised him where?

You have posted once since Teague has taken over that had any form of praise, all the rest of your posts were when we lost, 23 and counting

That is some positive ratio

I only really have three things to say.

Can we please put a moratorium on the phrase or variations thereof, "I don't usually bag out umpires...'? You want to criticise the umpiring, go right ahead; I'm not Thy, this thread is as much for venting as it is for coherence. But the only time that particular phrase or its variants is used is prior to criticism, whether valid or otherwise. Whether you do it normally or you've never done it before in your life, you're doing it now; has approximately the same value as 'I'm not a racist but'.

The second - concerning the game itself - is that if Teague is to get the job, he will need to have some means of addressing what is and has long been an issue at Carlton on this side of 2000, the simply inadequate means of exiting a stoppage. At no point have we had a good or better clearance coach who was capable of winning the ball and ensuring the string of possession is continued afterwards whilst moving the ball quickly. We've had the former, but never the latter, and with the quality we have across the 22 now we lack any excuses outside of poor coaching and development within our senior players; formerly Gibbs and Mitch Robinson, but also Kruez, Murphy and Simpson. It might just be a Barker thing; Walsh cites Barker as having a huge influence over him, and Walsh is starting to bomb the ball when within a clearance context.

Get Caracella. Get McCarthy. Get Voss. Get Ratten. I don't care who you get to be the midfield/stoppages coach, as long as they can create a system which allows us to win the ball free to a situation in which we can move from a clearance through the flanks cleanly, with space.

The final part is that we have some difficult decisions to make, list wise. We have TDK, Charlie, Harry, Kerr as KPF, with strong medium forwards in Gov, Kennedy and Jack. We have Cripps who can rest forward, who is KPF height. We have Jones, Weitering, Plow, Marchbank, Goddard, Macreadie, Ben Silvagni as KPD, with Williamson being barely cm below KPD height and Finbar who could be either eventually and Levi who is anything already. We have seen it already. We simply possess too many talls to use them all adequately. We do not play as well when they're all available, and we cannot match a smaller faster opponent when we play all of them when they are fit. We are going to have to trade some of these players over the next 2-3 years, and we are going to have to make decisions that we will regret in the short to long term, but as of right now our list is unbalanced. It's funny, if we had Harry and Kennedy in 2011 we'd have been a genuine top 4 chance; hell, if we had Kerr and Kennedy in 2011, we'd have been a top 4 chance. It's good to have such a glut of talent in talls, but the downside is that you cannot always expect to play at Docklands under a closed roof, and you cannot risk being overrun against smaller opposition in a grand final purely because you didn't want to lose a talented player.

It wasn't him that set the Tiggies up like he does so often though. De Luca reduced his impact on the game. His previous month of games was so much better than what he provided today. Prestia was the one who killed us today with his 11 clearances, including a game high 5 clearances from centre bounces.

When it's all said & done, Houli was probably not in the best half a dozen defenders on the ground & this is a credit to De Luca given Houli's form across the season (today was his 3rd lowest disposal game this season).

Come on thy, I’m a supporter of the Carlton Football Club, that where my loyalty lies, that’s why I’d sooner give up footy completely than ever support a different AFL team.

I couldn’t give a toss about any one person (player, coach or administrator) that isn’t advancing the CFC, so that means when a player coach or administrator does things that help my club succeed then they get my praise and when they don’t help then they mean nothing to me.. they are just another person in a long line of people that go into and out of the club over the 100 year history.

That might sound harsh, but my loyalty to any people at the club only extends to when they are helping it succeed, otherwise they don’t mean anything to me.

They are paid for their work and paid handsomely, so when they do what expected of them I won’t praise them but when they go above and beyond what’s expected of them then they will definitely get my praise.
You know, I almost shot you a PM two weeks ago, to ask you how you were going. Hadn't seen you for a while, could chart it back quite literally to our last loss under Bolton.

I think I get it now. You don't come on to this site to discuss the game. You come on here to vent. It's why you argue in circles, and it's why you use the posts you quote as diving boards for you to jump straight back into another rant. It's okay, I suppose, but don't expect everyone to react to it positively, or even appropriately.

I’m only half way through the replay, and it’s apparent that Richmond plays with a sense of entitlement that seems to influence umpiring. Sorry, but that’s what I’m seeing.

Take Vlaustin’s response to a physical tackle by Levi late in 1st Q for instance; he proceeded to shove his clenched fist into Levi’s neck region after pinning him to the ground in retaliation for the tackle, yet the umpire ignored it. It’s like, how dare Vlaustin be subject to tackling; it can’t have been the force of the tackle that he found so offensive, because a similar force tackle by Levi on another Tigers player early in the 2nd wasn’t penalised.

Then there’s Lynch, who puts both arms out demanding a free for interference during a marking contest in the 1st Q, paid of course; while similar interference during a marking contest up the other end in the same Q, involving a silent H, was ignored.

He who insists seems to receive.

How about get a clue b4 blowing a gasket

Assuming my reflexes are similar to another healthy human being there was .23 of a second between the time the siren went and the point in which the ball was marked...
qtr doesnt end until the ump blows his whistle to acknowledge the siren! It probably should be done on review but thats not the rule!

here ya go

This sort of thing happens all the time. The umpire blows his whistle after the siren has sounded but he can still overrule the mark because he knows it was taken after the siren began...............the fact that he did not hear it is hard to believe actually, but just another day at the office for how the club has been treated this year by the umpires, as well as the AFLs double standards where the bottom clubs are concerned.

Some thoughts .

Richmond allowed us to play an extra man on the ball inside and conceded the ruck hitouts. They countered this by encircling our players so that we could not break out and had to quickly kick under pressure. Those chaos kicks played into Rich extra man defense to be intercepted and start their attacks from half-back directly through center leading to lightening attacks (compared to us).

They anticipated our defense and packed the right wing side to prevent our transition from defense into attack. That is why we were always stopping. The next target was always outnumbered.

It was a disaster to allow the free man in defense. Set up their offence and shut down ours.

Needed faster players to be rotated onto the ball to break out and through lines. Cunningham, Dow, Fisher.
