Wouldn't be against a state league guy or DFA IF we know they'll be better than Jones next year. I'd only be interested in bringing in a player via trade if dirt cheap tbh.

We have our best 22 ruckman imo. Some want Jackson and I'd be fine with that too but he can't be expected to step up for 2-3 years.
Goddard from Claremont comes to mind.

Tim Kelly remains open to a move to Fremantle despite the likelihood he will request a trade to West Coast at season’s end.
The Age understands Kelly, who has an offer from Geelong, is leaning towards repeating the trade request he made in an attempt to join the Eagles last season.

However, unlike last October, he has not ruled out playing with the Dockers in 2020 if a deal between Geelong and West Coast cannot be reached.
With hopes dwindling that he will remain a Cat, the Dockers are likely to be in a position to offer Geelong a better deal than West Coast, who remain a strong contender to win back-to-back flags.

Kelly and his Western Australia-based manager Anthony Van Der Wielen - a director at South Fremantle - have been monitoring the situation at Fremantle this year after refusing to entertain a deal with the Dockers last year despite their interest in the star midfielder.
There remain widespread concerns within the AFL industry about the stability of the landscape at the Dockers.

Although football department chief Peter Bell has rebuffed suggestions of a rift with chief executive Steve Rosich, Fremantle have a host of assistant coaches out of contract.
Brad Hill is set to request a trade to Victoria, senior coach Ross Lyon is poised to enter the final year of his contract and list manager Mark Micallef’s job security has appeared shaky after it emerged that Bell had approached Adelaide analytics guru Binuk Kodituwakku about a role at the Dockers.

Kelly was non-committal about his future when he spoke publicly in Fremantle a fortnight ago as he attempted to maintain his focus on the upcoming finals series with the Cats.
His Geelong teammates are understanding of the reasons that might lead him to request a trade home however they expect him to commit himself totally to the Cats' premiership tilt in 2019.
Geelong last year turned down the Eagles' offer of picks 20, 22 and a future second-rounder for the man who is among the favourites for this year's Brownlow.

Agree, we should be looking at getting a decent ruck depth so that if Darcy does go down then we have someone somewhat capable of filling the void. DFA would be the way to go or a cheap FA.

Trade window on eve of AFL season?

The AFL has raised the idea of introducing a pre-season trading period, which would take place just before the season.
The floating of pre-season trading – in which the deadline would be after the pre-season JLT practice matches – comes as the AFL finds limited support for mid-season trading next year, which is now considered unlikely for 2020.
Under a proposal that was floated by the league to club chief executives and the competition committee, there would be a pre-season period with close to the same deadline as the supplementary-list system that Richmond used to pick up overlooked young gun Sydney Stack, in March, after the pre-season games, before round one.

TRADING AND DRAFTING
Mid-season trading could be in next year

The rules, as proposed by the AFL’s executive specialising in player movement, Josh Vanderloo, would be the same as the October trading period, but there would be no trading of first and second-year players allowed.

The AFL is open to having pre-season trading as soon as next year, although the league would have to move quickly to get sufficient support from clubs and players, with the AFL Players’ Association harbouring reservations about the push for trading outside of the traditional October trading period, which also encompasses free agency.
This pre-season trading concept was discussed at a player agents’ conference in Melbourne on Tuesday, when AFLPA officials outlined what the AFL had proposed and revealed that a mid-season trading period was unlikely in 2020.
Keen to create further opportunities for player movement, the AFL looked first at mid-season trading, before suggesting the pre-season trading window. There was majority opposition to the mid-season trading at the player agents’ conference. The AFL believes there was more support for pre-season trading at both the CEOs meeting and at the competition committee.
The AFL is mindful of the enormous interest generated when players move clubs – web traffic is enormous in the major media outlets and on the AFL’s website during the trading period – and has clearly been keen to open this up further, as happens in American sports.
The AFL has already introduced the mid-season draft, in which a number of state league players from across the country were picked.

AFL know that trade discussion will generate cash.

It will happen.

Just checked his stats as I haven't seen him play and he recorded 1 hit out from his two games. IMO we should be targeting a ruck not a forward who can ruck for depth.
He played forward when he came in and (due to the promise shown there) when he returned to the SANFL. He's a bit like meek in that regard. Behind Ladhams, Lycett, Ryder and with Sam Hayes at the beginning of his career. He Rucks when only 1 is in the SANFL team but plays forwards when there are two.
I reckon he is the type we need. 200cm. Can ruck and is mobile around the ground. Can kick a goal. Two bags of 4 goals and 6.2 in another game.
My set up for 2020 is
Darcy - Ruck, Lobb - Forward. 70/30 split.
If either is injured bring in Frampton. Same split if playing with Darcy or 50/50 if playing with Lobb. Have Meek developing and cut Jones.

And there is no concern at the Bombers, Blues, Saints, Demons, GC, Crows, Port, etc......we always seem to be an easy target, if Lyon and Rosich got extensions would the landscape be more stable???

Totally agree.

We are an easy target for a few reasons.
1. WA media blind support of the WCE
2. Northern states teams need good stories
3. Bottom four teams need support to stay alive
4. Port has financial issues
5. Not a lot of ex freo players in the media to defend us.
6. Lyons isn’t a character that people like
7. Game style isn’t pretty

Depends on where he wants to end up personally. WA might be appealing & 2 years might get it done. Security is important at his age & I don’t think there are many clubs where there’s a #1 ruck spot open. Maybe Saints, but they’re after everyone apparently.
Patty is cooked ,be such a Freo thing to do

God no.
To be fair Essendon and Adelaide are really copping it as well. The blues and Saints have stabilised under their caretakers, Carlton was ready to explode under Bolton.

I cant ******* stand all the trading-movement of players.
The loyalty of some players challenges my loyalty for the afl.
Geez, get over it. Teams will try and retain their cores but freedom of movement for players actually faster tracks improving your club's fortunes. It's called parity.

If we were to compile the stats from AFL journalists I would expect that a reasonable amount of their output and by extension their clicks comes from content regarding coaches and their futures.

If you're trying to improve your customer/viewer involvement numbers then your content needs to broaden beyond player articles where they all keep to the script and nothing is public until the end of the year.

That leaves you coaching, umpiring decisions and administrator speculation. Two of those will get you in trouble.

do any one have any clue on what they say in the article..........
"However the Eagles do hold two first-round picks: Their natural one and the one attached to Sydney, which will finish lower than Fremantle on the ladder. "
I didn't get it....do eagles have two first round picks???????? swans one?
They mean second round picks. Fox sports make heaps of errors like this. They are too quick to get their material out their for clicks and have monkeys doing their editing.
