It’s pretty funny that people (nuffies) just write off the Dogs 2016 because we finished 7th. Here are the win/loss records of the three teams:

2016 Dogs: 15-7 115%
2017 Tigers: 15-7 118%
2018 Eagles: 16-6 121%

Both the 2017 Tigers record and the Eagles 2018 record would have placed them at 7th in 2016, the same spot as the Dogs.

And we did what we did with a pretty miserable injury run during the H&A. I think if we hadn’t lost Murphy, Macrae, Libba, Dahlhaus, Wallis, and others for long stretches we might have won another game or two. But ultimately it didn’t matter.

IMO 2016 was the most competitive at the top end, of the three years. Sydney, Hawthorn and Geelong still hadn’t tailed off (both Hawthorn and Sydney would drop the next year), GWS were at their absolute peak (it has since turned out), Adelaide were nearly at their peak. Even the Eagles in 6th were coming off a grand final and would drop off in 2017.

At the end of the day, I love that we did it from 7th in a ridiculously competive year, winning four consecutive finals, across three states, and knocking off 3/4 of the top 4. It was awesome. And unlikely to soon be repeated.

No disrespect to the Tigs & Eagles either, as they were both great sides and worthy premiers with arguments to be made for each of them (I’m not answering the thread question), just pointing out some things that get ignored about the Dogs and 2016.

Agreed. Was a very even year, and Bulldogs played well all season. There was only a couple of games that were substantial losses if I recall. People act like Bulldogs came out of nowhere when after watching that season numerous times, they were in up to their necks in most games.

Yeah but unlike West Coast, Richmond win without the assistance of them
West Coast and the dogs overcame travel and injuries in their premiership seasons, Richmond were lucky they didn’t have to leave the mcg in September otherwise they were rooted

Collingwood
Hawthorn
Adelaide
Carlton
Melbourne
Saints

And this week we can add Richmond to the list :)
This year: Collingwood, St Kilda, Adelaide, Hawthorn, Melbourne, Carlton + Freo which in Richmondland would be considered an away game.

We haven't won the premiership this year, though. Last year we were 5/5 in Melbourne and also won in Brisbane, Adelaide and Sydney.
1 top 8 team which you undone by losing to at home, what a great away record that must be

if he wants to talk about this year, then why dont we talk about how the tigers have lost 6 times this year by over 30 points

Mostly assisted by the umpires, the Eagle way
ahhhh, that old chestnut sprouted by a bias view of a side that lost and lost convincingly. We could go through that same game and find 20 line calls or errors by the umps going both ways. Its all swings and roundabouts some go your way some do not but it tends to even out in the end.

Unlike Richmond, West Coast win away from home.

Please stop talking s**t. This year tigers have won 3 from 5, last year we did lose them granted and the year before 2017 we won 4 from 6, should've been 5 with that non-goal given to Bolton and we lost by a few points.

One would think the number of times your mob travels eventually u would get it right :p

In the year they won it, clearly West Coast. They had a higher H&A position than the other 2 teams in the year they won it which shows they were better for more of the season and they were also the only one of the three to go into the GF as favourite. WB won the Grand Final as the underdog, as did Richmond. WC won as favourite. That level of expectation BEFORE Grand Final day shows where their season was rated if you ignore the fact of their premiership.

They had also beaten all their main competitors for the flag before Grand Final day which shows sustained high level performances.

Richmond was a better side in 2018 than they were in 2017 (despite an obvious issue playing away from the G), but that has nothing to do with their 2017 Premiership and is therefore irrelevant in this discussion.

In what world were WC the favourites in the GF? No one expected them to win. Pies were $1.60 to win it.

5 from 5 in Melb who the heck did u beat other than the pies? eagles sound like swans supporters who were going on about their record at marvel when they were about to play us, after some investigation, they played all cellar-dwellers over several years and when they played us they lost last year and this year.

its eagles and not even close, the other 2 just hit form late and in the finals, the eagles were at least legit all season in 2018
Richmond hit form so late in the season that they spent 15/23 rounds of 2017 in the top 4?

Richmond also destroyed all of the top 4 sides by 36+ points in the finals, something that neither Western Bulldogs nor West Coast did.

Bulldogs, Hawthorn, Carlton, Collingwood x 2. Can only beat who we play... I mean two of those teams finished in the top 4 and the only other team we could've played was Richmond who we beat in Perth.

Richmond in 2017 lost to Geelong at KP, lost to GWS at Spotless and got flogged by Adelaide at AO. Bizarre that it's Round 22 and you haven't played Brisbane or WC yet.
