Brown doesn’t even take the #1 key forward half the time, smart sides isolate him with a quick small when he’s playing the goal keeper role... like Collingwood did with Stephenson.

Time to move on from him, I hope we’re looking at a cheap replacement like a Hartley or Leslie as insurance going forward.
Both of those good options now you mention them.

If we are looking to trade out a defender - I'd be looking at Callum Wilkie to the Dee's.

Jeez I mean they paid 2 first rounders for Lever.

Er, no

Alex Rance 194cm
Tom Barass 194cm
Daniel Talia 196cm
Stephen May 193cm
Joel Hamling 194cm
Harry Taylor 193cm

All of our developing key defenders are that height its whether they have the right attributes is just as important. What all that list have are they are very strong through the core and are good over head. You dont have to be 200cms to be a competent key defender.

You mean the setup we tried against the tigers and roos earlier in the year in 2 losses with the oppositions number 1 tall forward kicking 3 goals each time?

I predict ratts will at selection this week show that he doesn't think that works and brown will take the number 1 tall forward.

Do you think ratts agrees with your fix pluggs?
If so he won't pick brown will he?
Who is dangerous enough in the Carlton side that would require a specialist spoiler like brown?

McKay? Has kicked 2 goals in his past 3 games

McGovern? Would prefer a quicker player on him than brown.

I get what you are saying about Carlisle being a little loose, but I’d much prefer him in the side and maybe leaking a goal or two than brown offering nothing offensively and probably also leaking a goal or two.

I’ll be disappointed if they revert to brown this week as I don’t think there is a key forward dangerous enough to warrant his place.

Well that clearly makes us worse.
Lonie is occasionally handy but when he gets the ball he uses the opportunity to try and justify his position in the side with an individual effort ( shot on goal or trying to beat a man) rather than the team thing of a short pass or similar and is often to the sides detriment .

So are most players but certainly not for Miles. Still think he is clearly our best small forward.

Agree with all that, but....
I’m just concerned we trade Battle and then JC’s back gives in and we’ve lost both.

I’m very reluctant to trade Battle when we’ve plucked what will be an elite player pretty much out of nowhere.

Maybe if we can keep it as is for next season and get some games into King, we could have a King, Membrey, Battle forward line by trading Brucey at the end of 2020?

It’s a real conundrum.

It's not a conundrum, you don't trade your most promising young players. We are not at a point where we have mountains of quality depth that we can just trade away. Battle can play tall or small and at either end.

We are at a rebuild point where we are still sorting through talent and have lots of kids on the list. We are probably the youngest side in the comp next year. We won't get better swapping players for players for more than a minute. Battle might get you a Constable type who is a promising kid or maybe a mid at the end at a club that needs to rebuild.

I would prefer to draft a Constable than swap out Battle or wait for Hunter to play mid. Older mids will be past it before the rest of our kids develop. We just have to be patient now, we blew the early years of the rebuild and we have started to get it right the last 3. Hold your nerve and wait until we develop the talent we have.

I don’t know anything of miles . I like Lonies manic pressure but it’s like letting the little brother plays with his older brother and mates at the park

I’m confused about our backline discussion....

Jake is better then fine at full back, Battle is developing towards elite, Wilkie has been good.

Brown plays twos next year and if we get Bing (which we won’t this year) then i’d have him take Wilkie spot.

What’s the issue?

Jake can't play as a loose intercept defender from FB.

(Not even mcgovern does that- barass plays FB.)

Jake can't do what he does best from FB.
(Except in super rare cases like last week when we play against midget forward lines. Even then- jake was only able to really influence the game in the last qtr when he was moved from full back to chb.)

Jake can't play his attacking best football while also keeping guys like mckay, hawkins, lynch, cox, brown, daniher, bing etc quiet and/or accountable at FB.
That isn't a knock on jake- it's a limitation of what is possible.

Every great game jake has ever played has been from chb.
It is a total failure of logic to transplant what he can do there into what it's possible for him to do at FB.

That's why I predict we will see brown come in this week at FB, jake will play his best position as a loose intercept chb and battle will have to fit somewhere else.

If that happen's at selection- there's your issue:

Ratts (like richo for years before him) doesn't rate jake at FB ahead of an unspectacular role player like brown.

Of course Carlisle will play chb if brown comes in because brown can only play full back. If brown does come it’s because Carlton have 3 tall forwards. That doesn’t mean brown is preferred at full back. It means that’s the only spot he can play.
