Ok, What exactly is your definition of a ‘third tall’ ? What separates them from the number 1 or number 3 role?
The 3rd tall that has been their main tall target this year.

Talls 1&2 have been decoys for Darling lol.

His deficiencies were on show during the game, as pointed out once or twice by Pavlich, which were the main reason he hasn't gotten much of a game this year - if we'd stuck him in the side in round 10 he'd be as gassed as O'Brien is right now, and not able to play out the season.

What benefit is there from playing out the season, if it is only 3 games?

Should've been in from R1, and if he was gassed, we could've managed him accordingly.

Having said that, ROB was omitted, not rested, so that's not completely relevant.

*Tex makes a lead and gets separation on his opponent... midfielders proceed to bomb the ball over his head.

Drugs are bad Mackay: "Why is Tex out of position?".
Tex tries to get a 20-25m chip pass so that he can take an uncontested mark, regardless of traffic, regardless of whether a player can kick the ball there.

If the lead isn't honoured he doesn't head back to the hot spot but rather keeps doubling back to make more leads to try to get on the end of increasingly shorter kicks.

Only in BigFooty make believe do players with the ball have Carte Blanche to kick the ball anywhere they want.

"Who was that to??!!" angry react is the BigFooty equivalent of "Kick it long!" from fans at the game. The kick gets marked by the opposition. Why do we keep kicking it to their numbers? Umm... why are their numbers where they are? What do they know that we don't? Our forwards should tag their defenders so that they learn how to read the play.

Lead when the player has time and space to hit you. Get ready to contest the long kick when the player with the ball is under pressure.

Tex doesn't do the latter. And the former can only work on the rarest of occasions (or by pushing far enough up the field that the opposition don't care that you get it).

I've noticed we often clear out space 30-50m from goal directly in front (tick) but then no one leads there at all (fail). Our mids kick to the obvious hole expecting a forward to lead there (tick) but it's marked uncontested by opposition the defense (fail)

Ben Hart hasn't got around to that part yet.

Maybe next year.

Look, you're generally an alright poster but this is nonsense.

If you think that our midfielders have not missed targets, or that the targets were not hittable in the first place, you're nuts. That's a position simply not based upon the events as they have occurred.

This is a very strange observation you’re coming up with.

You are excusing our players for not having the poise and skill to hit clear targets and putting it on to Tex for being in a different position when clearly he’s made the right forward play, he’s free and in space, it’s only our unco players that can’t kick it to him. It’s not that hard, other teams seem to be able to do it.

And we aren’t talking about hard kicks here, there have been numerous times he’s been clear with players ahead of him free with time to make good decisions and hit him with a pass. But they either stuff the kick up or make a poor choice and ignore him.

That he doesn't have the fitness to run every time it's required of him the whole game.
Does Tex?
Does JJ?

Seemed to offer more decent leads than any of our forwards in any game this year...

Also, put more pressure on his opponent than our other 2 forwards.

How is it strange?

Does anyone on the board think Walker is good in a contested marking situation?

Does anyone think he relishes the opportunity to contest? To crash a pack?

Has anyone on the board not bemoaned his semi reluctant 'contesting' with one token hand up in the air?

So... given all that, what do you think it means for Tex as far as how he plays? Surely he'd gravitate to what he's best at? And away from what he's poor at?

We love him (me too) and perhaps it's preferable to blame Hart or say no one kicked it to him rather than acknowledge his flaws.

What hurts is that he could have been a great if we let him do what he did naturally (an opportunist, agile, goal poacher with sublime skills) but we ****ed it up trying to turn him into something he's not. The knee injury compounded what was already happening.

Back on Fogarty because there are similarities between them andvthis is his thread - he needs to retain all of his agility and, preferably, gain some. If he just bulks up even more he will limit himself as a player.

Well that's not true, we consistently kick long unpredictably where reading the flight half a second earlier can be the difference, or where Tex has to just sit wait under a sky bomb. It's part of a CHF's role to make multiple leads and get up the ground, but you think hitting a 25m pass is difficult? Those kind of kicks aren't rare. I'm not expecting lazer like passes, but all they need is for it be slighlty to his advantage or even a 50/50 and he would mark them, but they consistently kick behind him or the opposite direction he's leading. Most of our team aren't capapble of hitting 50m bullet passes, which is why he needs to lead up to give them an easier option.

Oh come on. He had a 63 goal season in 2012, second in goals per game to only Buddy.

So it isn't disdain at us which is what I said.
Well if you’re going to be a pedantic dick about it...technically the coaches are AFC coaches aren’t they?

Then disdain for the coaches could be more generally described as disdain for the club.

Personally I don’t give a toss, other than having a general disdain for irrelevant points.

We've got a couple of guys in our side who have been lacing out forwards all year. Hartigan and Kelly.

Opposition forwards like this.

Sure, make up a new one too, head canon is all most of you seem to be capable of doing.

I like his kicking action and his physicality, but he's still too short to play as anything but a lead up third tall, we'll need at least one genuine KPF down there going forward.
Wow, you could have sworn his name is Darcy Crouch.

What an absolute load of dribble..... again. Hes virtually the same size as Walker and more powerful. He'll be fine.

The idea was for Darcy to keep around the 94kg mark but be a leaner 94.

Tex can't do everything he wants to do. I'm sure he would love to be able to fly in packs like he did in the good 'ol days. He knows it, we know it, the club knows it, the guys kicking it to him know it.

The thing is - even though everyone knows Tex's limitations and his strengths ... we don't always play to his strengths. That's fine if it helps the team - but to then point at Tex and say he's deficient is kind of strange.

He has crazy good hands, crazy good kicking, nuts handballing skills. If we want to maximise Tex ... sometimes he needs to be burned on the lead, sometimes we need to put it in front of him and let him do his thing. That isn't always in the forward 50m arc - Tex is worth a tonne delivering the ball into the 50m. His role is not to fly for marks, now if that is a problem then he shouldn't be playing in the team. The fact that we have Murphy and Betts flying for every bloody high ball is a sign that we aren't doing it right.

When Jenkins is in, he provides nothing that we need. Nothing. He could fit into another club's structures better, he just is not a power forward in any way. He plays small ... but his bonus is you need to put someone big on him or he will outmark you (just based on size) then he gets an agility advantage.

What we need is full forward that loves to hit the pack, but has the other string to his bow ... the lead and convert. I guess we can just wait until we find such a beautiful combination. If we could couple this with a backup ruck that can take a mark and kick a goal ... whoa, what an amazing thing that would be. To round it out ... maybe some small forwards that pressure AND kick goals? Maybe we could trade this Darcy Fogarty fellow, that lanky Himmelberg, Stengle and McHenry in the off-season and go to the draft in search of these missing pieces.

I think there's been too much focus on our forward line this year from supporters. Yes it's aging and we need to rejuvenate but the midfield is where the real problems are.

Which weaknesses?

Led too well to get separation from his opponent?
Lack of kicking points?
Too much aggression?
Made our forward line too efficient?

It was the failure to kick points which really irked me.
