Bad luck? Or we just overpay the average players like Doughty, Reilly, VB, Mackay, Otten, Douglas, Atkins, Hartigan etc.
I thought it was more the length of contract they want than money with both Greenwood and Keath.....given their ages I can see why there is some reluctance by list management if they're not prepared to meet at least half way.

Keath is a good trade option...

What do we really think we'll do in the next 2 years as far as the ladder goes? Mid-table at best. We can probably scrape something together and have another go at launching into the 8 for a year, but the time to set up an extended period towards the top is now.

We've finished in the top 4 only 6 times in our history. That's a once every 5 years average and it's actually spread out like that.

If we accept that realistically a team needs to finish in the top 4 to get a premiership, Geelong has done it 16 times in that period. We get a shot at a premiership every 5 years, they get one every 2.

OK the Geelong example is unfair, they've been one of the greatest teams of all time... So let's look at West Coast, they've finished in the top 4 12 times in the same period.

Teams do win them in their first year in the top 4, but pretty much every team other than the Bulldogs have gone on to have sustained periods in the top 4.

So if we do it right, by the time our list is ready it leaves us with a 30+ Alex Keath? We complain about all of our old players now... Players 27+ have the most value vs. usefulness for us right now.

Keith owes this club. We sat idly by, while he had his fingers in two different pies, and developed him as a mature aged player after cricket fizzled.

Every club knew how good he was as a junior. He ended up with us specifically because we offered that deal. Not like he wasn't going to end up a cat B somewhere else without us. We won the lottery

Adelaide Football Club chairman Rob Chapman signals end of 11-year reign

Amid a horror end to the season that has triggered calls for a club overhaul and coach Don Pyke’s scalp, Chapman conceded “we haven’t had the success that we all desired and let’s face it, that’s why we exist” but said the club was in healthy shape off the field.
He said Pyke, contracted until the end of 2021, had the “trust and support of the board and playing group” and revealed “externally-led and independent” end-of-season reviews had been commissioned, which he expected would reaffirm that position.
Chapman, the AFL’s second-longest-serving chairman after Collingwood’s Eddie McGuire, also defended Ricciuto from fan forum accusations that he had contributed to forming an old boys’ club at the Crows.
Chapman, also the Adelaide Airport chairman and a Coopers Brewery director, acknowledged his Crows chairman term expired in early 2022 but signalled he would go earlier.
“It’s all about timing and the best interests of the footy club. And that’s why I say somewhere between nine and 11 years is the right time because the timing has to be right. But anybody on my board could do it – it’s whether they have the time and spare capacity to do it. I’ll make the point — I’m much closer to the end, much closer to the end than I am the beginning,” he said.
An AFL chairman would be expected to sacrifice two to three days per week for the voluntary role, at a cost to personal finances and family time.
Ricciuto, who declined to comment, likely would have to give up co-hosting Triple M radio’s breakfast show, while former Labor sports minister Ellis, who also declined to comment, quit politics at May’s federal election to spend more time with her young family.
Fellows, who also declined comment, is one of two women among the force’s senior executive group of eight sworn officers and two non-sworn.

Disgusting. 0.0 percent anything changes.
Only one name gets the job

likely will be from the current board, which includes past captain Mark Ricciuto, former MP Kate Ellis and assistant police commissioner Linda Fellows.

Keath owes us nothing.

He has one shot at a decent contract, no-one can begrudge him the opportunity if we are not prepared to pay up.

Hopefully we get decent compensation.

Believe it or not I could actually live with Ruccuito as Chairman, at least he's a football person. You'd hope he'd extract himself his media roles though (although Eddie still loves to be front and centre). It just highlights the need to sort out the GM of Football role though.

Trial and error via Burton is going to be a painful process. It'd be interesting to know who all these "football people" who were "endorsing Burton's promotion" actually were .. just sounds like more BS to me

In this day and age nobody really owes anybody anything other than what they are contracted to do, and even then it doesn't seem to mean much.

If the club wanted the benefit of Keath long term, they should have done that.

As it is he's an asset we've significantly increased the value of and hopefully we get something good for him that will still be of benefit to us well after Keath retires.

And don't let Smart run the recruitment process, so the absolute tosser can nominate himself - AGAIN.

Don't mind if the new Chairperson comes from within the ranks IF they bring transparency.

Roo might, can't say too much about the other 2.

Keath and Pick 20 for Pick 11.

How do we know they haven't earned it ??

I was more interested in the external review and who was doing it.
