Opinion Changes Round 23 Vs Hawks

Still don't know why Waterman and Petch are in the team.

Cameron is a much better player and has more impact than Petch at this stage of their careers. Better offensively and defensively.

Waterman makes us a little too top heavy. Would rather bringing in another runner or more mobile forward for him. Overkill with Allen also in the team IMO.

Imo for some reason the output of that group doesnt equal the sum of all parts. We've consistantly performed better with Schofield playing. Rotham hasn't let us down either. Yet our gun interceptors in Barrass and McGovern have exposed us badly at times and tellingly, particularly in our past two losses.

I think that's how we defend,we Have interceptors in TB and gov and have small to medium mobile defenders like shep and Hurn that complement the system. To be quiet frank, I watched the game against tigers again and I was really quiet impressed by our backline. pitty we didn't win, but i tell you what, behind closed doors, Tigers and rest of the comp realised how good our back line is dry or wet.If it wasn't for few errors we would win.
The only way you can break Eagle's back-line( our most important and potent asset in this team) which happened in 1st quarter against pies is pin point precision delivery I50's. Good luck to you. You cannot maintain that for 4 quarters. We lostto pies for different reasons, and our back line wasn't the problem. The other way is the chaos footy which port did, that one is also a high margin of error strategy which depends heavily on weather. Every yera as finals approach, most teams under pressure revert back to the old kick inside 50( kick and hope) which suits our backline perfectly. Tigers threw a kitchen sink at us with Dusty playing his best game of the season alongside Grimes to win by just a goal.Going 7-2 last 9 losing two close games like that. I'd say, our back line is doing pretty well. We have really knocked down on defence in last 10 games I think 3rd best defence in the comp. I50 differential against tigers was +22, good luck replicating that again. We are doing just fine. We won't win big this week, who cares, we are primed for B2B as long as we finish top 4( wherever in top 4). Eaglesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

Waterman is in to make the transition back to Naitanui easier.

I think the Hawks will play the close checking, contested, deny kicking style of football against us again.
It will be a low marking count game though they have two good marking ruckman.

I agree
I also believe we got more out of the Richmond game than they did
We know what we have to fix and do better but Richmond were at their best

Poor kicking is poor football so I wouldnt say they were at their best.

I think people are hanging their hat on the 1 goal loss a bit too much, We were outplayed for alot of that game and couldn't get the game back on our terms......

Yeah we looked nowhere near it for the middle two quarters. Nic Nat would have prevented that though I reckon

We're a role based side, so people best make their change predictions based on that.

Hutchings out always meant Masten in. Mid for mid, endurance runner for endurance runner, role player for role player. He won't get much of it, people will call for him to be dropped, but his role is to run and run and run all day, be an option when needed and a space filler so our style works.

Duggan in for Rotham is no surprise. Last chance for Duggo to get a run in the big league before finals. Schoey unlucky but will be back in based on matchups, probably for Nelson. Need Duggan to get back up to tempo in his role before we make that change. We've got our top 6/7 defenders, with Rotham and Cole as back up. Sorted for the rest of the year.

Waterman ain't going out. His role is the third tall push up the ground runner. LeCras last year, mainly Allen this year, now Jake. Allen doing the backup rucking is working well. Waterman only goes out if/when NicNat is back.

Cameron ain't coming back in unless there's injury. Petch is the more mature body (even he's still a kid) so is gonna be in doing his role. Remember Cameron came in when we had smalls out, big impact of goals, but he's just a skinny kid who needs time in the system before coming in for more regular AFL footy, let alone finals. There won't be a dropping of Petch for him. If there's an injury, he may get a shot. Depends on the role. Ah Chee also in that mix and probably would be preferred giving his mature body. He'd be damn handy to crash packs to conserve Darling and especially Kennedy from doing it.

Good points but imo Cameron is a better player than Petch. Skinny kid or not. Put it this way if it was the last kick in a GF and i had the choice of Petch or Cameron to take it I would go the kid.

Yeah but Richmond showed us their best and we kept our cards close to our chest so when we meet in finals we gon' get 'em back! Or something, apparently.

This post brought to you by whiskey and beer.

Yeah apparently thats why Simmo was on the bench with his hands in his pockets.................................

They got 4 points. Had we got those 4 points, we'd be in the box seat for a home QF.

The rest is voodoo BS.

I could be wrong about this but I reckon Petruccelle may be preferred because he has more capacity to play "high HF/wing" whereas Cameron is a specialist F50 goalsneak. Reasonable people may disagree but I think they like Petruccelle because he gives us the flexibility to push another forward up the ground. Cameron doesn't necessarily give us that option.

We can't and should'nt rely on Naitanui for that.

Midfield went missing and Simmo & Co. didn't adjust enough tactially to

Cameron used to rom high up the field at times from what I can remember. Still beleive he can play Petch's role better than Petch! More damaging/skillful and better defensively with tackling.

I think this is exactly what it is. I love what cameron has shown in his first year, but if you look at his stats he has registered 8 touches or less in 6 of his 7 games.

Petch works up the ground more and finds more of the ball, which is probably more important for us given the firepower we already have with our full strength forward line.

It’s hard to argue the coaches don’t see it this way as well. Petch has been best 22 all year with the only games he missed due to his hamstring injury between rounds 15-17

Good changes. Slightly surprised Schoey didn't make it back, but that team looks good on paper.

Hopefully we secure the win then our next team sheet reads: out: Waterman, in: Naitanui.

Yup, agree with Jorel too.
It's been said that Cam's stats reveal his work up the field isn't so flash?
He tackles and scores well, but goes missing upfield, a weak link in the team net?
Petch, covers the ground much better, has speed, can score and makes the odd mistake.
Petch's defensive work is better all over the field?
Maybe this is Petch's time, the younger Cam's time is next season, unless injuries or decisions change..
