Essendon tried to buy a win too.
AFL salary cap - Wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org
- In 1996, Essendon were fined a record $638,250 ($250,000 in back tax and penalties, $112,000 for draft tampering and $276,250 for breaching the salary cap regulations), forfeited their first, second and third round picks in the National Draft and were excluded from the 1997 rookie and pre-season drafts after a joint Australian Tax Office and AFL investigation found that they had committed serious and systematic breaches of the salary cap regulations totalling $514,500 between 1991 and 1996, including $110,000 in 1993 when Essendon won the premiership.[12]
Carlton were just stupid enough to keep doing it when it was obvious the AFL were cracking down on it. That was the last time a team was seriously found salary cap cheating until the Kurt Tippett debacle.
- In 1999, Melbourne were fined $600,000 and forfeited their first, second and third round picks in the National Draft for two years after it was found that they had committed serious and systematic breaches of the salary cap regulations totalling $810,000 between 1995 and 1998. Fremantle were handed Melbourne's first round pick for the 1999 National Draft as compensation for losing ruckman Jeff White to Melbourne.
Interestingly the Saints were fined $40 000, when sponsor X-Box provided games to the players ( something that couldn't have amounted to more than around $16 000, i wonder how much low mileage demonstrator Lexus' were selling for ). A few years later Richmond were only fined $10 000 for exceeding the cap by $13 000.

Maybe not a tactful thing to bring up with a Riewoldt family member.Robbo on AFL 360, parroted by Jack Riewoldt..."Fractured oesophagus" - how can you fracture a muscular tube with no bones?
What do you mean , have i missed something ?Maybe not a tactful thing to bring up with a Riewoldt family member.
Well yes, but everyone did to some extent back then. Key point being Carlton are known for their salary cap shenanigans, Essendon for jabbing dunno into people and Melbourne largely for emulating a tank.
The fact that they also screwed the pooch a bit ago is simply icing on a cake that regardless of what any of them say about our on field stuff and the 80's and beyond; we at least had heart and soul as people whereas they all collectively gave no s**ts whatsoever and lost one or both.
Also, got the update of RTB being sacked at work.
Suffice to say, I skipped to lunch.
Very long, and ridiculous bowMaybe not a tactful thing to bring up with a Riewoldt family member.

So the AFL are now differentiating between tribunal suspensions and integrity suspensions.
Because they play Friday, Stephenson can play VFL on the weekend.
10 games and not 10 rounds.
And people reckon the game isn't corrupt?

Ross Lyon would be perfect for them.Gees the Giants play bruise free football. With the amount of talent they have had over the years they should have at least one flag. TBH I blame Cameron the Giants play that lairy loose football he used to play. Its time he stepped aside and gave someone else a go.
That's not the answer.Suns asking for priority picks
The Suns will ask for a priority pick immediately after their likely No. 1 selection, which would give them the first two picks in the draft.
That's not the answer.
All it means is they draft another kid who leaves after 2 years.
AFL need to manufacture a situation whereby quality players are incentivised financially to play up there.
Raise their cap.
Or they should relocate them to Tassie.it's already higher as part of the revised COLA deal
they need to remove the players monopoly on demanding where they are traded to, so the GC can use their first rounders to get the talent they want
Or they should relocate them to Tassie.
5 birds, 1 stone...
Tassie should get a side then leave it there. 19 teams, 18 rounds, everyone play each other once in a season then reverse fixture the next year.
Fairer fixture, more breaks for the players with teams getting multiple bye weeks... Sure we miss out on 2 Showdowns and 2 Coll v Rich games etc but that just puts more of a premium on those seats.
As for player's nominating clubs - I think that, until you are a FA you should only be able to nominate a State. If Tim kelly wants to go home and Freo are happy to match his contract demands and can offer the best trade then he is off to the Dockers.
Tonight was shaping as an absolute blockbuster prior to R1 2019 if you bought into the hype (that being Essendon a top 8 lock, top 4 chance). Instead we get the injectors resting a few of their top line players.
I thought the point of the bye was so that we didn't get these R23 clashes where teams aren't playing their best?
